As long as I got the warning of course, because my assumption is that I am gaming with adults who know what they are doing, and so I'd need to recalibrate expectations and fine tune my level of player guidance :)
The assumption should go the other way for organized play. :) Lots of drop ins, sporadic attendance, recruitment games, random party make-up are the norm. The default should be PG-13 (fantasy violence).
More than half the games I've GMed in the last year have started with 'this is a twenty-sided dice* and it is going to determine 90% of tonight's outcome. In fact the whole game system is based on- and named after-it. We abbreviate it as d20.' PbP, especially on Paizo's own site, might be the exception but it is best to assume the minimum. :)
*die is correct grammar I know, but for comprehension's sake I intentionally use the more recognizable plural. ;)

Is there a place we can advertise/promote our Gameday game? I just lost my fourth player, and I'd rather avoid playing with a pregen if I can.
I'd put a link here & send an email to Jesse/James to mark your game open on the list.
Do you mean you lost 4 players already? I fear a long recruitment is going to feed into one PbP's weaknesses (posting drop off).
Or do you mean you have lost player number 4? I recommend recruiting enough players to account for losing 15%, (see above) 6 or 7 for PFS.

I had four players recruited (I had more but several dropped off early because of other reasons). The fourth went after the descision that you can GM and play, but you can only GM and play in one game, so he'd rather play a core game.
Now I am left with three players, but a fourth has signed up, so we're good.

And now, I'm proud to announce, that Play-by-Post Gameday V has begun!
In a week we'll open up the reporting form. We don't expect anybody to be done in less than a week, although we'll see how fast Feral finishes up his first scenarios.
We have boons! There will be an email going out to GMs this weekend about the boon procedure and what the boons are for this year. (Things are slightly different. I saw a really cute thing this weekend that I'm blatantly stealing.)
We hope you enjoy your games, and keep an ear to the ground - we'll be planning Serpent's Ire and Through Maelstrom Rift soon!
(7-00, there'll be a small post going up momentarily, but feel free to start knowledge checks and the like.)

So many, many characters to TPK, . . . I'm so excited, but where to begin?

Doh. . . I already did that in the first post.

Yah, now that I think about it and considering Evergreens, it might even be less. Now, that being said, I'd rather have more chance to enjoy it a while than run through something.
I mean, the quicker it is, the less chance you have to enjoy the player's tears when their characters meet terrible, horrific ends.
:P

In the past, GMs received a single GM only Boon, (typically their choice of a small list), and then there was a roll-off made in the game that all players and the GM had a chance to win per game. (It was, if I recall a 1 on a d20 won you a specific or random Boon while a 20 on that same d20 allowed you to choose).
If I recall, either James or Jesse mentioned that there was something different (and humorous) this time, but I could be wrong or thinking of something else.
Also, just a head's up, I typically give away all my Boons, trying to give them to new players that didn't win any. If you have any folks in your games that fit that description, keep this in mind and PM me or something. The only 3 exceptions would be Aasimar, Grippli, and the Shadow Lodge Boons, since I looking for those personally, but otherwise, I'll probably give mine away to those guys and gals that didn't get any.

No, I'll do it when I have the last detail I need.
You know, one of the advantages of RL conventions that I hadn't considered was that once the con starts, either things are done or they're not, but you'll have to deal with it. Online conventions require me to poke a lot of people even after they've started.
Meanwhile, if you want to run 7-98 and 7-99, and you didn't get the email I just sent out, please contact me at jmcteague@pathfindersocietyonline.com

Hello, everybody!
I'm running a scenario in the Gameday, but I didn't receive the usual email informing the GM boons for the event. Where can I find this?
Thank you! :)
Was there supposed to be an email? This is my first time GMing PBP, so I have no idea how the procedures on this stuff works. I'm just running my game, and figuring I'll worry about stuff like that later.

Just in case folks missed it, it looks like the Expanded Narrative Boon just dropped for free for all DMs, and changed to once per season.
Additionally, it seems that there was also an Update to The Wounded Wisp, (one of the handouts changing to be more pertinent to Season 8's Elemental Exploration Plot).

Last year it happened in this way.

Reporting
We have a live reporting form! It’s on the pbpgameday website (and I’ll be sending the link out to all the GMs via email). Please make sure to include your email and the email of any player that wins a boon (as described below). In addition, please make sure to pay attention to any reporting notes, especially for scenarios that have come out recently.
For your chronicle sheets, the name of the event is PbP Gameday V and the event # is 82317.
Boons
Boons – we have them. At the end of a session, each player at the table gets to roll a d20. On a 20 or a 16, that player has earned one of our amazing boons! They get to roll on a d6 to determine which boon they get access to. The boons will be emailed to the players at some point after they get reported. (I would like to say that they will be done as I report them as the Gameday goes on. That is optimistic. I will try to keep up with reporting and boons so that I don't have a giant pile of these to do at the end.)
Now normally we would post the text of the boons for GMs to take a look at and share with the players. But I’m mean. I prefer to give you a taste of what the player boons are about and let you endlessly speculate on them until they get handed out. (Now, you may say “but weren’t these given out at GenCon and some local conventions recently? Since they’re already out in circulation, wouldn’t some people already know what they do?” And to that I say… uh… hey look! A distraction!)
Player Boon #1: Sajan looks awesome in Horror Adventures
Player Boon #2: Fighting looks different depending on where you’re from.
Player Boon #3: You know what’s a good archetype? The Grenadier alchemist.
Player Boon #4: I hear you’re going to the elemental planes soon…
Player Boon #5: Over-specializing is always a good thing when it doesn’t cost anything…
Player Boon #6: FEAR ME! (over and over and over and over…)
There will be a GM boon as well that anyone running a game as part of the PbP Gameday gets. Unfortunately, I haven’t received that, so I can’t spoil what it is yet. When I put in the slot 2 scenarios, I’ll poke Paizo about that again.
There will be a follow-up email for GMs coming within 24 hours with the reporting form link. (I’m re-pulling the list of GMs’ emails so that I get _everybody_ this time.)
EDIT: Emails are now out. If you didn't get it, email me at jmcteague@pathfindersocietyonline.com.
Also edited because I went to my PbP GM alias out of habit. As much as I like my GM alias, I like Gom-Gom better.

Just to clarify:
it is a roll of a 20 or a 16 and not a 1
And then roll a d6. Is that if you roll a 16 (1), or both if you roll a 20 or a 16 (1)? (In the past, I believe it was if you rolled a 20 you picked one, and if your rolled a 1, then it was random.)
Also, just for clarification again, are DM's considered a "player at the table" for rolling for a Player Boon?
GM Lari |
I believe those deadlines are for product support, where Paizo provides scenarios for convention GMs. It's too late to get the to send you the scenario (since that needs time to be processed and all that), but you can certainly start scenarios independently of the "slots." The slot deadlines only really matter for the special scenarios beyond that.

Thanks, James!
Following up on Feral's question now that we've got official clarification on Serpent's Ire policies. I'd be looking to play it, not GM, so it's not a huge deal either way on that front, but I am currently running two tables of Serpent's Rise, and if its important that they finish by the end of the first slot so that players can do the follow up I might need to pick up the pace.
