A table. Really?

2/5

Was disappointed to see the set my son bought did not include 3 small/med NPCs or creatures, but instead a table. Yes a table. 5 foot wide table. What no chairs ?

Something applealing and something differnt.

4/5

The idea of a inn setting. where most adventures take place. was long in coming. few of the figure are in some sort of 'action pose'. Nicely done. I never seen one play about getting a bed. Now he plan on building a inn diorama
The nit i would pick is none are sitting down. Now the table are set to accommodate a character standing up. but a table 'and' chairs.
I was also have expecting some sort of canteen band. although a bard was in one set.
'(yes collecting a passed out drunk would be something. but what a better way to spy or gather information.)

one series I would like to see is mounted and unmounted. Hero on his mount or even a druid riding his/her animal companion if need be. Some looking regal other comical. Maybe even a pack mule. or pack horse. unlikely a pack centaur/ guide.
a side bar to this would be fantastical mounts. creatures with a saddle. Elephant dragons. wyverns. etc

The 4th best set - best faces yet!

4/5

GOOD:
The best human faces!
Lots of super-useful NPCs & PCs.
Some good large creatures missing from the Bestiary.
Very useful dressing pieces.
No 1 star minis.
BAD:
The 2 dwarves (the eyes).
Some minis have too dark paint jobs (Kobold Devilspeaker, Dog, Ghouls).
The large Bugbear.

Great set!

5/5

Definitely one of the best sets made so far. Faces have improved. Interesting mix of miniatures. My case had an extra bed and barrel!

My son and I did a full unboxing and review. Check it out here:

Neck-and-neck with Dungeons Deep for best release so far!!!

5/5

Once again, Cat has beat me to the punch with his excellent review. It says all it needs to say about all the necessary things.

Here's a couple thoughts to go along with it:

As quality has steadily improved, so have certain expectations. Keep them in check. For those of you that remember the issues from before, much of that is held in check with this set (and the Dungeons Deep set).

With realistic expectations in mind, none of the figures in my case had BAD faces. There were some with JUST OKAY faces, but none that struck me as Poor. This is a first for me, as I've had at least one straight up BAD face in every previous release. Usually the problem faces are humans and dwarves. The JUST OKAY faces are human and dwarven, but still a slight step up.

Ironically, the worst figures in the set are the two replacements they included for poor pieces in another set (the king, and Feiya the Witch iconic). I didn't include them as part of my official Rusty Dragon Inn star rating.

There was some inconsistency on a couple of the pieces, but the offense was so small for mine I'm not going to take off for it. No miniatures were missing pieces. The bendy weapons, for the most part, were under control.

In-hand miniatures will NEVER match up with digital art for the piece. If you expect it to do so you're never going to be happy. Digital art gives us a good idea of what the piece is striving for, not how it'll look exactly. Digital art also tends to be more colorful, as it doesn't have to take into account shading, washes, etc.

As Cat pointed out, these pieces are for those not willing to paint their own. Could I probably do a better job? No. I'm horrible at painting. Have I seen re-paints of Pathfinder Battles figures that look much better than the official factory release? Sure. Is the person that did the re-paint also painting hundreds of the same pieces at a time? Probably not. The moral of this exercise is to reinforce Cat's point regarding expected quality of the set.

Instead of reviewing each piece here, I'll stick with a short review on each piece in the singles section of The Rusty Dragon Inn. It sounds like Paizo is going to be opening some more boxes and releasing some more of the rare pieces that are out of stock. I'll make sure to review those throughout Sunday (Jan. 24th) for those trying to decide which pieces to purchase.

*BONUS* I got every piece in the set all in one case. This set is so good that I seriously suggest you purchase a case yourself, if it is within your means.

***Special thank you to Paizo for continuing to make sure all the pieces in the set can be obtained with the purchase of a case. True, once in a blue moon this doesn't happen, but your system is set up to do so in most case. It's a far cry from certain competitors, where the purchase of a case doesn't even attempt to net the buyer a full set. I (and I'm guessing most others) buy miniatures to use at our table, not go chasing after each piece like it's a chase piece in an action figure set. So again, thank you.***

Pre-order in! I am excited about having a set of city NPC theme minis instead of another monster themed set, it is long overdue IMO, =)

I like the bar incentive too!

PAIZO, with this the release of the Rusty Dragon Inn miniatures set, can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FINALLY make a Rusty Dragon flip map with the main floor on one side and the upstairs on the other? Maybe also make a corresponding map pack of Beneath the Rusty Dragon with wooden walled wine and ale racks, storage rooms, some hidden secret rooms for different purposes or treasures, maybe a secret passageway to the light house (very Goonies like), or to a thieves/smugglers waterfront underdock, or the existing sewers. I know some people don't want more inn and tavern maps, but how can you not do a map of your most iconic inn?

I would buy it also! Just make the bar incentive the perfect size to overlap the bar on the flip-mat, =)

AGREE, any and all miniature furniture made for the Rusty Dragon minis should match and fit over the corresponding furniture drawn on the Rusty Dragon flip mat.

When (approximately) is the set due to come out?

Edit: Nevermind, I found it. :)

All in for a rusty dragon map and love the idea of miniatures matching the map features. Might be a bad source of feedback though since this taps into my two addictions, maps and minis. Quick question about the battles line in light of gencon, hopefully not covered elsewhere - the volume of posts here is overwhelming at times.

Huge minis? Did gencon shed any light on the future of these? How about the blue and green dragon evolution lines?

Is there a release date more specific than November yet? I'd drive up to Seattle and get mine if it was available before the 6th. That might be the last session where my players spend a lot of time at the Rusty Dragon.

It is always on a wednesday.

But the 4th is not very likely - in the past it was almost always the 2nd or 3rd wednesday of the month.

I am definitely pleased with the direction this sets seems to be going, having quality NPC and set dressing minis really can make a game more immersive, in my opinion.

I do have one serious question for Erik Mona or whomever makes these decisions; Does Paizo plan to maintain the same rate of "Rare" minis per brick as previous cases?

I ask because this month the newest case of D&D minis was released and whereas prior to this you would get sufficient "Rares" per brick to ensure a complete collection of all the standard minis and approximately half of the "special" invisible minis in a case, they decided to reduce the number of Rares per brick this time around, resulting in not receiving 7 to 8 of the set minis per case (4 "Rare" and 3-4 of the "special rare").

Now I know that D&D is WotC/Hasbro, however, the same company, WizKids/NECA, makes and packages the miniatures for both Pathfinder and D&D.

I also know that it is always stated that you are not guaranteed a complete set of minis in a case, it rarely occurs where you do not.

That said, I am hoping that this change was a parent company idea and not a WizKids idea and that Paizo has no intention of changing the packaging rate of their minis. Because honestly, after spending that much money on a case, it is insultingly frustrating to not receive a complete set on account of someone deciding to make a mini-game out of the collection process.

Thanks

Silver Crusade Contributor

The two lines have always been separately managed, I believe, and I have great faith that Paizo wouldn't approve such a change. However, I understand if you want to hear it from the man himself. ^_^

When they first announced they were doing Pathfinder-themed miniatures set, there were a large number of Paizo customers who said that not having a high likelihood of getting a full set with each case would be a dealbreaker. Moving away from the "1 case = 1 set" paradigm would probably torpedo the whole line.

I am aware of what was said in the past, the reason I am asking the "powers that be" is because the new D&D lines of minis had the same rate of rares to brick/case as the previous Pathfinder sets... until this time. So I would like some assurances that that distribution plan is not also being changed for the Paizo sets.

Now, the QC on the Pathfinder minis is already far better than the D&D counterparts and Paizo has a much better track record than WotC/Hasbro when it comes to customer service and customer relations, so I would not expect them to do something like that, however, if it is the manufacturer making the decision or if it is a considered change, I think it needs to be addressed.

I would just rather hear it from the horse's mouth now, rather than getting another rude surprise when opening the next case of minis.

I can appreciate looking for official confirmation (hopefully a power-that-be will see this shortly), but for interest's sake both of the previous Icon of the Realms D&D sets (Tyranny of Dragons and Elemental Evil) included ultra-rares. They just weren't as noticeable because (like the Rage of Demons set) they were the invisible minis, so it wasn't quite so obvious when you missed one.

I am well aware of the difference between the rare and ultra rare/special rare, as I made the distinction in my original post, that was not, however, the point of my comment. As I stated, it was both the Rare and the Ultra Rare that were lessened in the new release, so that an entire set of Rare minis were not included in a sealed case. But thank you for attempting to correct me and what I might or might not have missed.

The way i see it this set will not be coming out in 2015.
It has been moved from november to december but does not show up in Diamond Previews December products solicitations.
If this comes out in january with D&Ds Monster Menagerie set coming out in february it is extremely unlikely i will buy a case of both.
Please adress this inconvenience.
I know it is not Paizos fault but we deserve information at leasz.
The problem seems to be with the bar mini incentive. It would be better to ship the set normally and the incentive at a later date when it is good and ready.

Paizo Employee Publisher, Chief Creative Officer

I do not control release dates and often don't find out about changes to them until you do.

So while I understand your frustration I'm afraid there isn't much I can do to alleviate it at present.

I am not aware of the bar case incentive causing any additional delay in production on this set. I _do_ know that it has gone through a few iterations, and has gotten better and more useful every single time.

Same.

(Also, the longer the set takes, the more time I have to scrape together subscription money. Not good for everyone, but a little silver lining.)

I know you are not to blame, Eric and i have absolutely no grievance towards you. I think you do a great job with the minis line which i imagine to be quite hard sometimes.

I am not overly frustrated with the set coming out later too.

What i DO find frustrating is that the date is changed on the product page, which i almost did not see, as i don´t check that very often.

It would greatly help me if you could write about release date changes in your weekly blog that i like very much and do look forward to every friday night (around 3 or 4 in the morning in germany).

I absolutely plan on buying a case and already informed my local dealer that i want one.
But it can happen (if the order is cancelled via Diamond Entertainment) and he does not order it again in time that i don´t get the set AT ALL.
That happened with only one set of Pathfinder Battles minis so far for me and i was very sad about that.

So my problem is - i need to be informed asap about delays or it can happen that i miss out completely on a set.

It is an assumpion of me that the delay is due to the Bar mini incentive because it is a new kind of mini (which i applaud you for doing) and changes do take time.
I absolutely think it is getting better and better in the process.

I hope this helps you see why i am so vocal about these things and that i am not trying to make this set being seen in a bad light.

Thank you for listening and caring. :-)

Can anyone tell me how much a case weighs and what its dimensions are? Also, what are Paizo's shipping costs to Europe for something of this size/weight?

The last I got (WotR) was ~4kg gross weight and the box measured 40cm x 40cm x 30cm; I had to pay an extra ~90€ at customs.

Ruyan.

That date doesn't even exist.

Check the january 2016 new release shipping thread.

Also there is no box art on the internet and all online shops only offer pre-orders.

It may be that some stores receive them earlier but this week is highly doubtful.

I've pretty much moved to only listing the release date for the Paizo published products as some of the licensed subscription items' release dates shift too often or I am unable to get an exact date. Rusty Dragon Inn should be releasing in stores on Jan 6th where available, though the orders will be created on Paizo.com on Jan 7th and we estimate starting shipping on the 12th.

But that is paizo's street date.
Wizkids has not yet released a date and my retailer tells me the european date is weeks away.

Miniature Market is selling singles for this set already, listed as "in stock" not pre-order. Hopefully our subscription cases ship soon, like a second Christmas. I appreciate how M.M. always posts pictures of the worst paint jobs that they pull for D&D and Pathfinder prepainted singles, to avoid unhappy customers, but it always makes me nervous as hell that my minis are gonna look that bad. Hoping for some high quality standards on this set. Also, is this the set that we are going to get a better King and Feiya paint job mini?

Feiya and King Irovetti will be included as detailed here in the second paragraph below the list.

All the large minis look good to great, some human minis really bad but most look good on the pictures.
The only 2 missing ones are King Irovetti and Feiya.

Where are you viewing them? Only place I've found that isn't misleading digital renders is Miniature Market, but I would like to find another source to view them, since Miniature Market always displays the worst ones they can find. Paizo has had a lot of issues with human faces in most of the past sets, I'm hoping the human faces have improved this time. I really wish they would ditch WizKids and use a quality painting company. Although Paizo does force better quality out of WizKids than D&D has been, with their last two sets.
