I really like this pawn set. It's almost more useful to the GM than the NPC Codex box, as it focuses more on "generic" types of characters: soldiers, guards, priests/priestesses, hellknights, pirates, and pathfinders, with an emphasis on factions and characters that add flavor to the Golarion setting. The NPC Codex is great, but more for unique types of characters that require some effort to write into an adventure, rather than just throwing in a handful of cool soldiers.
Where the NPC Codex has an advantage is its dedicated hardcover/pdf, where all the pawns have stats in the book. The Inner Sea Pawn Box could really use a consolidated resource to stat out all the figures. If you want Paizo's stats, you'll have to collect: The Inner Sea World Guide, Inner Sea Gods, Inner Sea NPC Codex, Paths of Prestige, Inner Sea Combat, and Inner Sea Magic, which total to $94, just for the PDFs! I'd love to see an Inner Sea NPC Codex that collects all of these resources together, for those who don't collect EVERY publication from Paizo.
This set is fantastic! You get all of the great Inner Sea factions that you've been dying to see such as the Red Mantis assassins, cult of Razmir, Hellknights, Pathfinders and more.
The rest is fantastic and worthy of the normal high quality work of Paizo. Well done.
Great for 4 Adventure Paths that have no Pawn Sets!!!

Interesting. I've sold off most of my minis over the last few years, and have started buying pawns for use in PFS (I currently own the Bestiary and Bestiary 2 boxes). I've been thinking of picking up the NPC Codex Box for classed types, but this might be a better fit.
"Over a hundred" characters seems a little conservative for a box of this size, though -- I expect that # will likely go up quite a bit. Looking forward to finding out exactly what is included.
Out of curiosity, are the contents of this box largely going to mirror the art in The Inner Sea NPC Codex? I'm guessing "yes" from the cover mock-up, but it doesn't seem like that product would require the full "box" treatment (more like one of the adventure path pawn sets).
That would be my guess. Both books didn't have enough characters to make up one pawn collection, but both of them combined will work. I'm very happy for this one to be coming out. I'm guessing the Monster's NPC will be next in the spring of 2015. These pawns are awesome and I'm pretty happy with Paizo's decision to put out pawns for the inner sea.
I was also thinking also the Inner Sea Codex and the Inner Sea Bestiary would be nice, but how about those from the Rival Guide and lets not forget the NPC Guide! Have yet to see those in pawns or plastic! HECK, I wouldn't mind seeing Giants Revisited added in for good measure! LOVE MY PAWNS!
I was thinking today that Paizo might include inner sea gods with this.
Reason being:
- we usually get well over 300 pawns per large box.
- this is a large box (price-wise it implies close to 300 pawns).
- inner sea bestiary and inner sea codex combined only gave us around 100 characters total.
- adding inner sea gods would put this upcoming collection still well short of 300 pawns, but closer to 200.
That would be epic, and I don't think it's out of the question since this box features "Inner Sea" pawns.
I LOVE these pawns, and this is perhaps the most exciting one yet! I got the NPC codex box, but was a little disappointed (probably my fault for not looking through the actual book before I bought the pawns, but hey, I still love them!), so this set seems much more up my alley. Seriously, PLEASE keep these coming!!
From the price and the size, I would assume that this box also includes bases (like the Bestiary boxes).
And like others, I'm intrigued by the phrase "major characters from the Pathfinder world". Are we talking rulers and other movers and shakers? Or characters like the Red Raven and whoever's in charge of the Pathfinder Society these days? Or something else entirely?
I just hope we see a bit more of the various highly underrepresented groups. Such as brown & black people and dwarven women (or women with different body types in general).
Also it'd be nice if they put some "townsfolk" in this. There's lots of adventurer types through all the sets put out thus far but not much to represent regular everyday people.
Is this going to cover some of the "weirder" character options, like classes from Advanced Player's Guide, Advanced Class Guide, and Ultimate Combat/Magic?

If I had to guess, I would say this would cover not only the Inner Sea NPC Codex and Inner Sea Bestiary but a lot of figures that appear throughout the campaign setting (regional) books. Flip open any nation in the Campaign Setting Book and you will likely find a figure that could easily be made a pawn. Some will likely come from the Player Companion books too. As well as suggested above: Inner Sea Gods.
More of a grab-bag than the regular Pawn sets I would imagine. Still cool.
I will keep checking for the list of pawns included, I've got really high hopes for this set.
I'd be surprised if the set doesn't include the following -
* inner sea bestiary (47 pieces of art)
* inner sea codex (56 pieces of art)
* inner sea gods (122 pieces of art).
Totals: 225 pieces of original art for all the Inner Sea books.
Bestiary 1 had 256 original pieces of art, but those pieces of art were divided between small, medium, large, and huge pawns. Once duplicates were included, the pawn numbers rose to over 300, but the original art featured 256 different pictures. This is largely the same for all the bestiary pawn boxes. For reference, Bestiary 2 featured 246 distinct pieces of art; bestiary 3 featured 212; Bestiary 4 featured 217 pieces of art. 230 seems to be about the average.
The NPC Codex, however, featured 346 original pieces of art. The NPC Codex was largely made up of either small or medium pawns. This allowed Paizo to use the same amount of pawn sheets as the bestiary boxes.
* The last fact is a big key to what will likely be in store for the Inner Sea Pawn collection. This is largely due to the fact that most of the inner sea pawns characters are either medium or small. This is also due to the fact that there are only 225 original pieces of art, as I already stated before.
What this means is that most of the art from those three boxes should be featured in the pawn collection.

I really HOPE TO SEE Varian Jeggare and Radovan from Dave Gross set of books and Elanna and Drelm from Howard Andrew Jones set of books in this set! Along with some of those I had mentioned earlier!
We'll likely do some previews and/or content reveals closer to the product's release, which is currently slated for early November. My advice is to check the blog in a week or two.

Any word on how many pawns might be in this collection estimation-wise?
Not looking for an exact total, just wondering if it will be a big box or AP-sized box.
Thanks in advance for any information you might have.
Subscribers will probably get this in early December. Erik Mona wrote me and said that they will be including some of the art from inner sea gods, with a focus on the cleric artwork from that book. He then went on to say there is some original artwork for this pawn collection.
I'm hoping inner sea bestiary is also included. Been looking forward to a Syrinx pawn for some time.
Is there reason to expect that there would be duplication between the NPC Codex box and this one? I'm considering buying both but I don't want to duplicate unique characters.
If there are any duplicate characters/pawns from other sets, it's an error on our part. The goal was to include new pawns that had never been previously released.

You forgot the PFRPG NPC Guide and Inner Sea Worldguide Both with a tons of art which gladly i could buy :3
That could be a better idea if paizians make a set of pawns for every Campaign setting they make (Guess what im tasting in my mind? Book of the Damned I - III, Rival [the ultimate awesome] Guide)
And if they split the inner pawn sets into 2 categories (npcs and bestiary pawns) would be better
Some one have those books (NPC Guide and Undead Unleashed)?
in the NPC Guide are an Ulfen Character called Ostog the Unslain (Male human barbarian 4 [Played by Erik Mona]), and in the Undead Unleashed is Arnlaugr the Fearless (Male draugr captain ranger 10)
If you check the art for both of them, they look just the same (even with the undead-thing for Arnlaugr)... T´would be nice if those were the same character at all :3 Paizo, errata that please, and let that happen :3 that gave us a little time elapsed since the 2008 to 20014 like a tribute for all the time we have enjoied this awesome version of the game (yes, i know im a complainer, but still loves the d20 system)
If there are any duplicate characters/pawns from other sets, it's an error on our part. The goal was to include new pawns that had never been previously released.
Any chance of getting a list of characters sometime soon?
Thanks for any feedback you can provide, and thanks for the update a few weeks back on the blog.
