Something for Everyone!

archtypes, feats, more archtypes. More card spreads

I love the ultimate campaign for the story seeds and this book adds more! with the deck I already have! (but don't worry, you can use dice, playing cards or tarot cards to the same effect for anything you use the Harrow for)

As it turns out, the artist Kyle Hunter has a story (he wrote) associated with every card. He created all the characters himself, he named them himself. Which is why they all tie together in thei chaotic way. And why the art was not changed for the Deluxe cards (and the first cards which I also own because I love the Harrow)

Some of these stories are in this book. One card for each suit. I wish I could have more and I'm hoping there will be more slipped into future books and lore related to the harrow.

Maybe even more hints on the "lost suit" (mentioned in this book) in the future.

In short, ifyou like the Harrow, in whole or in part, and you want to add it to your game and/or your character then you want this book. Every class, any random background. Especially if the deck is a prop in your game (as dice or cards). There is a picture of every card on the inside cover, especially helpful for those not getting the deck itself.

This book is without a doubt one of my absolute favorite books from Paizo. When I got it, I tore through it, as I love the Harrow concept and couldn't wait to read this book, cover to cover.

Not only are there a lot of really cool mechanical options, but the 6 "chapters" focused on each of the symbols in a Harrow deck are awesome. Each one gives a really nice description of what a person who feels a connection or is guided by a particular suit might be like, giving lots of ideas for great role-playing moments.

Its an fantastic book, and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I totally would!!

The Harrow Handbook is the perfect example of how to mix “crunch” with “fluff”. Apart from the brief aberration that is the order of the hammer and a few combat feats, every option in the book has story value as well as mechanical value. This book adds life to the campaign setting in a way many other Player Companion books fail to, by developing something that is uniquely Golarion. This book is overflowing with flavour and I absolutely love it as a result. It is, without doubt, one of the best books in the entire Player Companion line and will be seeing a lot of use in my campaigns.

Wait and see the 11th-level Oracle/9th-level Diabolist (with my own twist)/10th-tier Marshal that I created for a short fluff text in Wayfinder... She had to be a Heaven Oracle, but this mystery is much more fit. I don't know if I will ever full stat her, but she's thought to be the ultimate Queen-Goddess, demagogue and mob ruler, with Mortal Herald (Destruction/Catastrophe) and triple Divine Source (Evil/Devil, Law/Tyranny, Nobility/Aristocracy and Sun/Light).

I don't have my PDF with me, but as I recall there is nothing in the write-up that removes the 'Always Lawful' alignment restriction, no. I believe the bonus feats get some tweaking & instead of Stunning Fist, you get the ability to afflict your target with a minor curse-like effect. At higher levels it upgrades to an actual Inflict Curse effect.

Again, I don't have my PDF with me, so don't take my words as gospel.
edit: I also believe you switch out some of the vanilla Monk resistances for greater resistance to curses & such-like.

Harrow Warden: You treat starknives as Monk weapons and gain proficieny in Klar.
Stunning Fist is replaced by Idiot Strike - if it fails its save, for 1 round the target has been Pugwampi'd! Add more rounds to the duration as you gain levels.
Mute Hag Stance: Enemies in your threatened area lose any morale or insight bonuses to attack and skills. Replaces Improved Evasion.
Big Sky Stance: Immunity to curse and poilymorph effects. Replaces Diamond Body.
Eclipse Strike: You can replace the Idiot Strike effect with a Baleful Polymorph effect. Replaces Quivering Palm.

There are 2 and they are versions of Cheat (Or BS) and UNO but with Harrow Cards.

Except that all the new class abilities are named after Cards in the Harrow Deck & in some way emulate the card they are named after.

edit: Also the wording on Eclipse Strike is a bit unclear. The only actual reference it makes to Idiot Strike could have been an editing error as to my recollection, Quivering Palm does not use a Stunning Fist use per day & Eclipse Strike replaces Quivering Palm while Idiot Strike replaces Stunning Fist.


Question:

In the Arcane Harrowers section on page 29, it lists the Visionary bloodline from Ultimate Magic, as a good bloodline for Harrow Sorcerers to take.

What the heckie is the Visionary bloodline? I've seen no such thing, was this a typo, and is there supposed to be a different bloodline instead?

The Visionary bloodline is on p73, listed under the Wildblooded archetype.

They have a Magus Arch type but did not add the Harrowed Spell to his list. Does that seem right to you.

So..rumor has it there are two new witch hexes in here. What are they? My witch just leveled up, trying to decide if I should buy this and pester my GM to let me learn one.


I got my copy of this, and I'm quite pleased with it! Can't wait to read the whole thing, especially after the awesomeness that was The Harrowing.

Two questions about the Harrow bloodline:

The first level ability states that the target "becomes confused and cannot directly control its actions" on a failed save. What does "cannot directly control its actions" mean?

Also, how do we calculate the save for that ability? (I'm assuming CHA + 1/2 level, but that's not stated anywhere, and I could totally see this as CHA + 1 since it's based off of lesser confusion.)

It's just referring to the confused condition. The target rolls to see what it does, as it normal for confused characters.

It's the normal save DC of 10 + 1/2 sorcerer level + Charisma modifier. The limit that a creature cannot be affected more than once a day is the balancing factor of a ranged ability that can cause that much chase (compare to laughing touch, from the fey bloodline, which has no save, but it range touch).

I know that this is an older book, but if there ever chance we could see a Harrow bloodline for the bloodrager? Or an updated harrow warden for the unchained monk and story summoner for the unchained summoner?


Good morning!

I've just recently started playing Pathfinder and picked up The Harrow Handbook. However, I'm a bit confused as there seems to be two versions of this publication. The one I have has the cover of two Harrowers combatting wolves but I have seen another version where the cover shows a Varisian woman at a table performing a spread.

Is there a difference between the two versions other than the cover? Should I pick up both?

Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide. :)

The other "cover" is probably the solicitation art, which Paizo sends out to retailers when generating orders (before the official cover is complete). Some sites never update their images - Amazon in particular is notorious for it.

In any case, there's only one version, no matter what. ^_^
