GM Bret |
Welcome!
I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.
This is part of a special so it will be critical that we run a fast game.
I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows. Please also include a ‘bot me’ spoiler so that it is easier for others to bot you. (See more about this below.)
Chronicle information
In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I ask that each character please provide me the following information:
Player name:
Character name:
Preferred station in Starship Combat:
OPF #:
Character #:
Faction:
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job):
Has your character crossed paths with Datch? What happened?
At the appropriate time, I will ask that you also post your slotted boons. That will happen after the game starts.
Two Boons that are important to this Special:
Acquainted with Datch (Ally): from 2-01 Pact World Warriors
Big Win against Big Potion (Slotless): from 2-17 Cost of Living.
Character Profiles
Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. At the least it should include current/maximum Stamina, Hit Points, Resolve Points, EAC and KAC, and saving throws.
In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do so please put it under a single spoiler. I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.
If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.
If you want examples, the PbP GM Kit has the pregenerated characters done in BB Code. Use those as a general guideline.
Botting
Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.
Please include instructions in your profile and a general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. I highly recommend this include the dice expressions used for common actions. It is alright if you put this in a separate spoiler from the stat block, but once again please don't split it over multiple spoilers.
If there are resources you don’t mind being used up by botting, please say so. If there are resources you never want someone using, it is alright to say that as well.
If it makes you more comfortable, you could specify who you want to run your character when you can’t post.
In my experience, creating a bot structure can help with your own posts as well. Assuming you put complete dice expressions in the botting directions, it makes it easy to cut and paste.
Initiative in PbP
I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will bold the names of characters that should act. I will take the NPC actions in order and reserve the right to delay an NPC in order to make them act with a group of other NPCs.
When it is your turn to act, please post. Do not wait for someone else to post just because they had a higher Initiative. If you know what you want to do but want to wait for someone else’s action to go off first, just say that.
Here is an example of how you could post before another player but have it go off after another player:
Sir Cumference waits for the elven mechanic Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his bowcaster before charging the Wily Snark.
Attack with High Tech Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
I (and many other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.
Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.
Rules Questions
If there are rules questions, please post them in the discussion thread rather than interrupting the gameplay thread with rules debates.
In closing
Come join me for a fun and fast game!
Gunnz |
Taking an early GM sign up please.
Did you want me to sign up on the main registration sheet as well?

GM Bret |
Sounds good, kuey. Just please remember to give me the information once you have decided on a character.
Srurdez |
Hey folks! Just checking in! I've signed up for this, how's everyone doing?
GM Bret I want you to know that I GM'd this special at GenCon, let me know if it's a problem.
Player name: Adrian B-J
Character name: Srurdez
Preferred station in Starship Combat: Captain, Chief Mate or backup Gunner
OPF #: 54710
Character #: 702
Faction: Acquisitives
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job): Known Quality (Tier 3) will be slotted for: Profession (Doorman): 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23 23*6 = 138 cr
GM Bret |
Thanks for letting me know, Srurdez. No problem, GMs have to be allowed to play as well.
I will be playing one of my characters at the 7-8 tier while running this.
Zargothrax McDonald |
Player name: Aaron
Character name: Zargothrax McDonald
Preferred station in Starship Combat: Science or Magic officiers
OPF #: 4249
Character #: 702
Faction: Exo-Guardians (Probably)
Day Job: Nope.avi
I'm way behind and just barely touched season 2 of SFS. In fact I'll be filling in some of the details during this gameday with other characters on the side.
Gunnz |
And I'm running it as a backup GM in this con.
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
My game just wrapped up. I'm now free to go and fully leveled up. I should mention that I'm also running this for GameDay.
Bartender: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
GM Bret |
I should mention that I'm also running this for GameDay.
I know, I’m at your table.
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
LOL true!
Zargothrax McDonald |
Zargothrax is now free from his game. He has lots of credits to spend, and considering he's been wandering around with an Azimuth Laser Pistol for 5 levels, I think it's time to spend something.

Ha! That was me too. I just upgraded to a skipshot pistol after my last table for the same reasons.
Gunnz |
I'm easy - esp if our envoy is tanky. Otherwise I'd suggest solarian. But generally go with who you would prefer to play.
GM Bret |
Remember that there is starship combat. Every special has some starship combat.
Conrad Castamir Kerbouchard |
This envoy is NOT tanky. (And ready for ship combat. Will likely request Captain's chair.)
Gunnz |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I'm delighted to pilot in starship combat.
Love it.
Zargothrax McDonald |
Are we short a check-in? I thought we had a full table but I only see 5. Anyhow, I'm good either as Science Officer or Magic Officer. Also, I have a boon to put a spore launcher on our shipDrake.
Now then... I know I've played with Gunnz and Conrad before, but I can't remember if I was playing as Zargothrax at the time... or if I was GM. Has Zargothrax already met anyone here?
Gunnz |
Looking at your campaigns, I don't think so. I GMed Zargothrax for 1-11, but the credit went to a different character. I've never played 1-30; Gunnz has not done 1-5 or 1-8.
But anyone who has flown with Gunnz will likely have talked about the experience. Odd nobody goes back for seconds.
Zargothrax McDonald |
Conrad is going back for seconds now. Looks like I GM'd 1-24 for both of you, and there was (a painful) starship combat.
GM Bret |
kuey, did you ever decide what character you would be bringing?
It does look like I need to hunt down a couple of players who haven't posted yet. I will work on that now.
Zargothrax McDonald |
@Kuey - I always say whoever you enjoy playing the most, or whichever character has a stronger tie to the scenario we're about to play.
@GM - I think it's just 1 character that hasn't checked in.
GM Bret |
Eight characters over three tables for GD IX.
There was a lot of switching tasks in the middle of something today.
Thomagar Dayana |
(This is kuey.)
Alright I'll go with my solarian. I like both my solarian and mystic (although very polar opposites in character). But Thomagar might play better in a usually-combat heavy special.
Realised I haven't updated his character sheet after his last game. Will update by this weekend.
GM Bret |
Kuey and AFlashInTime / Orrian, I would like you to please provide the following:
Player name:
Character name:
Preferred station in Starship Combat:
OPF #:
Character #:
Faction:
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job):
Has your character crossed paths with Datch? What happened?
Everyone, just a friendly reminder that the following boons are relevant to this special:
Acquainted with Datch (Ally): from 2-01 Pact World Warriors
Big Win against Big Potion (Slotless): from 2-17 Cost of Living.
You don't have to slot boons yet.
Gunnz |
My lack of season two play is coming to haunt me. I've not played either of those.
Thomagar Dayana |
Player name: kuey
Character name: Thomagar Dayana
Preferred station in Starship Combat: Captain (+13) or Gunner (+7)
OPF #: 215076
Character #: 703
Faction: Exo-Guardians
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job): profession (sculptor): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Has your character crossed paths with Datch? What happened?
Nope. Haven't played much of season 2.
Orrian Balnelis |
Hi everyone! I guess I'm not technically late for several more hours, right? Info is below!
Player name: AFlashInTime
Character name: Orrian
Preferred station in Starship Combat: Gunner (+9)
OPF #: 8601
Character #: 708
Faction: SS(J)
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job): Profession Herbalist: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
Has your character crossed paths with Datch? What happened?
Orrian has never encountered Datch directly. The closest he came was seeing her on TV after a mission that went a bit haywire. No 2-01 or 2-17 for Orri.
2-03 The Withering World
2-05 Meeting of the Queens
2-21 Illegal Shipment
GM Bret |
In order to make sure no one is confused, I am going to post what is in the scenario about the repeatable tag.
---
The Last Bite is an adventure that has the Repeatable tag. This tag has special rules as part of this scenario.
Repeatable: Unlike other scenarios with the Repeatable tag, this scenario can only be played once per tier range. A single character can only play this scenario once, though different characters could be used to play the remaining two tier ranges. The tier ranges available to play in this scenario includes:
* Tier 1-4 (Low-Tier)
* Tier 5-8 (High-Tier)
---
Hopefully none of you have already played this in Tier 5-8.
Srurdez |
Srurdez hasn't crossed paths with Datch but has done most of the Big Potion stuff, so he's not to fond of AbadarCorp at this point, we'll say :D
Srurdez |
Wasn't sure how you'd like to handle the prep tasks but for the sake of expediency I tossed in the skill check as well.
Srurdez |
Shall I do other prep tasks as well or give others a chance? I imagine we only have a day or two before we kick off the special proper.
GM Bret |
We only have one day for these.
It wouldn’t hurt to give others some time with the others provided you can check in again later.
Zargothrax McDonald |
Finishing out my last minute purchases.
1x Ghost Killer Liquidator Disintegrator Pistol (From Chronicle 1-31)
1x Life Bubble Spell Gem (Replacing the one I used last adventure)
1x Jetpack (goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
Srurdez |
Well, might as well kit out then, I think we're done most of the prep tasks.
Mk 3 Healing Serum from Buffet Crisis
Mk 1 Healing Serum from VIP Roundup
Holy Water Grenade Mk 2 from VIP Roundup
Zo! Coupon from VIP Roundup - used to buy Deflective Reinforcement
Throwing Fusion for Greataxe - 1,040cr
Returning Fusion for Greataxe - 1,040cr
Dispelling Fusion for Greataxe - 1,040cr
Deflective Reinforcement - (7500-750 Zo!) = 6,750 cr
Thrower Arms - 1,000cr
Total Spent: 10,870cr
Gunnz |
I'll put something in here, 10% discount is nice.
Zargothrax McDonald |
I guess I'll take the discount on my pistol. It's listed on the chronicle sheet as a single line-item for 5540cr, however I suspect Zo!'s discount would be on the pistol itself which normally is 4500cr. If it applies to the whole line-item though I'd be totally down to cash in on that!
As for the freebie grenade, I'll take take a Mk 2 Riot Grenade. Get a little crowd control going on.
Srurdez |
I suspect if it's a single-line item from a chronicle, then the discount probably applies to all of it? It's basically a single item prepacked with the fusion.
Zargothrax McDonald |
It also has an epic name.
Zargothrax McDonald |
My only input is that we move on from one to the other without stopping to vote. Starship is good if we can get through rounds quickly since it doesn't cost us resources. I'll second Srurdez's #4 as a hopefully straightforward warm-up. After that if anyone has a request I'll automatically second it. If nobody posts anything and the GM has time to post, I'd say pick whatever seems fun to GM and roll with it.
Srurdez |
Yeah I'll agree to that for sure. I'd say default to whatever has the least reported successes, but whatever keeps us moving is absolutely fine with me.

The thing is it is listed on a Chronicle sheet. The boon is for purchase of something at Absalom station. I need to check if this qualifies.
Zargothrax McDonald |
Well you've got till the end of the special to decide. Buying that list either way, just a matter of if I get 10% off of that or 10% off of the cheaper part.
Also, having GM'd specials before and having had the thought of "Man... I really want to see how my part reacts to mission xyz..." and then having them not do it, you can register me for 1 vote for anything that the GM really wants to see us do.
