Titans Unbound...and scampered off apparently.

4/5

I enjoy both Greek Mythology and the Pathfinder RPG; this product is a good combination. I liked all that I read particularly the interpretation of the Pantheon of Olympus. I only disliked what I didn't read...especially the missing Titans of Greek Myth. This is not the first supplement to omit them despite their potential to play such a important role in the campaign.

Considering their differences and personalities, it's unlikely that the Olympian deities would work together at all...unless their was another pantheon of gods that opposed them! The Titans would fill that role without involving yet another mythological pantheon. The Titan deities, who are really just another set of Greek gods, would have monsters and worshippers that would be a major source the world's conflict.

This source book is overall good but could probably use a supplement.

Enjoyable Romp

Full Disclosure: I received this product for free in a lottery/raffle of sorts from the publisher.

This product contains a front cover, page for company/contributors, and one for the licensing. Excluding those, we are left with 8 pages of information. The Hellenic gods are interpreted, a few articles of arms and armor are mentioned (as well as a statement about the armor of the era), and finally races and archetype offerings. I'll mention the races (Amazon, Centaur, Minotaur and Satyr) and the archetype (Amazon Warrior) for purposes of completeness.

There are several typos, and I noticed the somewhat archaic Level Adjustment (LA), but all told the information is very interesting and piques the Classics major in me. Perhaps the only genuine issue I have with the product is a the weapons table: it doesn't include a cleaner breakdown of the proficiency of weapons (Exotic, Martial and Simple). This isn't a huge issue, but I would rather all the information be either in a table or in a paragraph.

All told, I like the material, I like the implementation, and would love to see a bit more for this line. Pairing this up with SKR's New Argonauts and you have yourself a wholly worthwhile campaign.

Cyclops, manticore, medusa, hydra... Greek myths and legends gave ‘the world’s oldest role-playing game’ (and its successor Pathfinder) some of its most iconic monsters and creatures.

Jason and the Argonauts. Troy. Clash of the Titans (either version). Greek myths and legends have also given the visual imaginations of modern culture, and modern gamers, some of their most iconic images and scenes.

Now, this reasonably-priced release by Little Red Goblin Games has given the PFRPG community the tools and gear they need to portray the iconic heroes who fought those monsters and ‘lived’ those scenes. ;)

Personally, I find great appeal in the images of a band of heroes in bronze breastplates, wielding hoplon shields and armed with spears and xiphos shortswords, especially if they’re duking it out with a hydra, or shooting arrows at a chimera while riding a pegasus or griffon, so having the tools to replicate those images is a great satisfaction to me. I’m even tempted to use this toolkit to overlay Greek trappings onto the famed Rise of the Runelords AP.

Fair warning: there are some minor typos scattered throughout the text, and one occasion where a piece of crunch is cut-off mid-sentence, apparent victim of a cut-and-paste error. Speaking for myself, I’m OCD enough about such things that I can’t give Odyssey the full five stars; at the moment, I’m awarding it four-and-a-half stars, rounded down to fit within Paizo’s set-up. (If LRGG release an updated/corrected version, I’ll re-assess then... /subtle hint ;).) That said, I’m one of those grammar-enforcers that everyone despises; if your primary concern is finding tools for adding awesome Greek flavour to a Pathfinder game, you really should pick up this supplement. ;D

Reviewed here and at DriveThruRPG (where I bought it). Please don’t take it like I’m holding that fifth star hostage, guys; I’m just a bit of a perfectionist on that score. :S

And as I said, I love the image of playing a Rise of the Runelords campaign overlaid with Greek trimmings: Belor Hemlock and similar fighter-PCs striding into battle in bronze breastplates with hoplon and xiphos at the ready; Xanesha’s famed impaler of thorns as a doru (and perhaps Xanesha herself recast as a medusa!); players fighting the attack on Sandpoint by Longtooth and the giants (perhaps Great Cyclopes?) from the backs of pegasi or griffons. This is a great product, and I’d be quite happy to see an expanded version come down the pike. ;D

Unfortunately I don't have a creditcard to buy this, wish there were other payment methods available.

As long as they didn't make Hades into Satan, I'm all good.

I’m working this material into some homebrew I’m working on, and a design question has arisen. In terms of the Advanced Race Guide race-construction rules, what would be the RP ‘price-tag’ (plus or minus) of the Amazon ‘misandry’ racial trait?

Trace, I don't know off hand, but I would default to a 2RP cost for it.

I'd agree that 2 is probably appropriate. Might have to adjust it based on your setting if there is some kind of male/female imbalance.

Hey, where did this product go? O.o

LRGG took down all their products after the discovered that they needed to rework their OGL Section 15 content as it was not done correctly. There is a thread wandering around somewhere in the boards in this regard. I think, but don't quote me, that they were all due to return to the site sometime this month. All depends upon how extensive their reworking of the Section 15 information is going to be.

Edit: LRGG Products down.

Looks like it was supposed to be the end of April, but apparently it is taking them longer than they thought.

Yes. That is one of the first things it presents. There are 12 Greek gods presented with alignment, domains, favored weapons, and symbol.
