The warrior Valeros can rely on his sword arm and his friends—mysterious sorceress Seoni, quick-witted elven rogue Merisiel, powerful wizard Ezren, well-traveled dwarven ranger Harsk, and courageous cleric Kyra—but nothing can prepare him for the dangers that lurk ahead. The scattered goblin tribes of Varisia are unifying in ways no one has ever seen before. At the heart of this strange evolution is an ancient force of evil looking to establish itself anew in the world of Golarion!

Paizo's award-winning fantasy world, fiction line, and tabletop RPG is now the ultimate fantasy comic! With an action-packed story written by Jim Zub (Street Fighter Legends, Skullkickers) and incredibly detailed artwork by newcomer Andrew Huerta, this first volume introduces readers to a richly envisioned fantasy world filled with compelling characters and impressive sights.

    This oversize 224-page collection features:
  • Issues 1-6 of the hit series by Jim Zub and Andrew Huerta
  • The exclusive, never-before printed tale, "The Last Mosswood Goblin," by Jim Zub and Ivan Anaya
  • All 31 beautiful covers by Matteo Scalera, Lucio Parrillo, Erik Jones, Tyler Walpole & Dave Dorman
  • An introduction by Paizo Publisher Erik Mona
  • 42 pages of encounters, characters, and world detail for the Pathfinder RPG
  • An all-new, removable poster-map of the region explored in the comic
  • And more!

Is the only difference for this the alternate cover?

Yes.

Will this ship with the next subscription shipment? I think it is being released right around that time.

So now there is a Paizo.com exclusive cover which looks more "Saturday-Morning-Cartoon-ish" than the original cover which fits the art style of the comics better.

Can we get any insight on why that choice was made for the Paizo exclusive cover? I know that the Paizo covers have been homages to different generes or movies (Jaws, Ghostbusters, Spiderman, etc). Is this an Homage that I just don't recognize?

I'm trying to decide which cover to get. I can only afford one. Since I have Paizo exclusive covers for all the comics, I'm leaning toward this one, but it just doesn't seem to fit as well...

For someone who preordered the standard covered version a while ago, and has it sitting in their side cart, is there any way of changing it to the Paizo.com-exclusive cover?

I added this version to my sidecart, and then emailed customer service to remove the non-exclusive version :) They might be able to just swap them directly.

Our current estimate is that it will. We aren't 100% sure though. But when we shake the magic eight ball it says "All signs point to yes."

Yes, you can either order the exclusive cover and then tell us (via email, messageboards or phone) to cancel the regular cover or you can just tell us and we will make the switch.

Just got the news, that it will DEFINITELY be in for shipping with the May subs. If you want it to ship with your May Subscriptions, it needs to be in your sidecart by May 15th. If you are a comics subscriber and want the 20% preorder discount, it needs to be in your sidecart by May 14th!

Thank you Sara Marie. Great news.

The cover is not an homage. We were enjoying some work the artist was doing for us on another project, needed an exclusive cover for paizo.com, and decided to use him.

Further, the "homage" covers are taking a little break during the second story arc, and may or may not return.

Is there any chance, to get a view of the new poster map?
I am a comics subscriber, but I am willing to buy this HC, if the map is cool enough.
But without knowing how it looks, I rather not buy the HC.
So, a small preview would be awesome. Any chance, that might happen?!

Great book. I like how the pages are bigger than the comic which means larger art.

PERFECT and AWESOME book!!! Completely LAME and super tiny map. For the price the map should have been BIG and high quality. The book is amazing though. I really love the added goblin story and all of the artwork from the different covers. 98% perfect, too bad you went cheap on the map. From a different point of view one could say that they didn't have to include ANY map and I should be happy for what they gave us. I just believe if you are going to do something, do it all the way great or don't do it at all.

I bought this awesome tome at the con. Awesome book is awesome.

Is it possible to purchase a PDF of the game related bits?

Not at the moment, alas!

Just started reading this comic. Loving it thus far. However I'm also playing in a RotRL campaign. I'm seeing some big similarities in the story lines. Two questions before I read any further...

1. Are there any spoilers for the campaign that I'm going to come across reading Dark Waters Rising concerning Rise of the Runelords?

2. RotRL starts with the Swallow Tail Festival Rova 4711. What is the timeframe or timeline for Dark Waters Rising?

On another note...

I've been a long time Rolemaster/Middle Earth Roleplayer and have just recently bought into the d20 Pathfinder system. (and by bought in... I mean I've bought almost every hardback book available) I am loving it. Love the world, love the system. I'm hooked. Thanks Paizo for creating such a rich fantasy world.

And one final question... When will the next volume hardback comic series be released?

Thanks again!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Also very keen to know about volume two.

I'm curious, are the pull-out maps from the first comics available in some form in this hardcover volume? Unfortunately my comics sustained some water damage, and I'm not sure whether to buy this, or order each of the comics to replace the battle maps lost.
