Bestiary Box 2 Unleashes Planar Friends and Foes Upon Your Pawns!

*****

If you're a GM building your resources to run your weekly tabletop game, then eventually you're going to want to pick up the Bestiary 2 Box! This is the one you'll need to supplement all of those amazing demonic and planar beasties that aren't covered in the first Bestiary. Pick this one up if you're planning to invade the Worldwound or take a trip around the Great Beyond. You'll find pawns to make all of those otherworldly encounters come to life right before your eyes.

Beautiful artwork. Wide variety of creatures. Sturdy construction. Must have collection! Nicely supplemented by the Wrath of the Righteous pawn set!

The Collection Grows

*****

Pathfinder Pawns is one of the best product lines rolling out of Paizo in recent years. Everyone loves fielding miniatures at their game table, but the logistics of a collection that fills all your needs is a nightmare. Pawns are the perfect product for a GM looking to use great looking pieces on the table without having to worry so much about storing, organizing, and transporting bulkier collections of minis.

Pathfinder Pawns: Bestiary 2, much like its predecessor, is an awesome product because it provides GMs with every type of critter that appears in the bestiary. With these there is no need to find something that "looks like" the critter in your next encounter, you have the right piece already. The quality of the art work is top notch. The pawns are durable, easy to store and transport, and they look great alongside traditional miniatures.

I recommend this product to all GMs and gaming groups as a "must buy" item.

Keeps getting better.

I picked up a box at gencon. The pawns look great! Very menacing and the artwork is beautiful. I can't wait to throw some at my party.

Announced! The image is a mockup; though it uses the correct artwork, details will likely change a bit prior to publication. This set comes with bases; we haven't listed them specifically because we haven't yet determined the mix of sizes that will be included.

About time! I have been waiting too long already.

Any chance we'll finally see any Gargantuan pawns in this one?

Otherwise, it seems strange to have the stock Bestiary 2 cover with the Jabberwock if he won't make an appearance...

The Bestiary boxes are cool and all, but when are you going to release the Tome of Horrors Crate ?

:D

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Excellent! It's going straight onto my shopping list. :)

+1 for the larger sizes (Gargantuan and Colossal). Although maybe that should be saved for a later, separate box, possibly with the Gargantuan and Colossal monsters from all the Bestiaries to date. That way we can also get the over-sized monsters from Bestiary 1 too. Such a box wouldn't need to include many bases, which would presumably help keep the costs down.

(In other words - I need some of the larger dragons!)

+1 Also for the idea of Gargantuans being in a seperate box, but I think the Colossal's being included in the set too!! (:

I'm just pleased as punch that the pawns are doing well enough that Paizo is continuing the line. I do so love these incredible pawns.

Grand Lodge

+1 For the idea of the Gargantuan and Colossal Creatures being in a separate box and being able to purchase them separately :)

Super excited about this! A definite buy for me. I second the gargantuan and colossal monsters. Even if it is its own box that is fine, but the sooner the better!!

Silver Crusade

A box or two of the larger sizes would be great. I would suggest at least two of every monster and double slotted square bases (4 for a "square" monster would be even better). That way we get a sense of mass vs the smaller sizes.

Hopefully the market far excedes the cost of creating the new sizes.

Monsters that I really hope are in this box:

With the same artwork because the artwork is almost perfect!

Akata / Amphisbaena / Attic Whisperer / Aurumvorax
Banshee / Bunyip / / Chaos Beast / Charybdis
Crawling Hand / Crysmal / All Daemons / Kalavakus
Omox / Denizen of Leng / Zebub / Gylou
Puragaus / Devilfish / Draugr / Dullahan
Dust Digger / Fungal Crawler / Gloomwing
Adamantine Golem / Alchemical Golem / Gray Render / All Gremlins
Grindylow / Gryph / Hellcat / Hound of Tindalos
Howler / Jabberwocky / Leng Spider / Leprechaun
Leucrotta / Lurker in Light / Magma Ooze / Mandragora
All Megafauna / Merrow / Mihstu / Moonflower
Mothman / Brain Collector / Nightwave / Pech
Phycomid / Poltergeist / Keketar / Quickwood
Redcap / Reefclaw / Sandman / Scarecrow
Sceanduinar / Black Scorpion / Scylla / Shining Child
Sinspawn (all sins) / Siren / Slime Mold / Slithering Tracker
Slurk / Albino Cave Solifugid
Soul Eater / Sylph / Tendriculos / Thunderbird
Viper Vine / Water Orm / Wendigo / Winterwight
Witchfire / Witchwyrd / Worm that Walks / Yrthak

With another artwork if possible: I've seen a lot of these monsters appear in artwork in AP's and the art there was better than the bestiary art in my opinion, especially Decapus, Kelpie, Cythnigot, Nyogoth, Marsh Giant, Gug, Chupacabra, Glass Golem & Bdellavritra Devil.
The others I'm just curious on how they can look better in artwork, but I already like the descriptions of the creatures.

Kelpie / Korred / Blob / Catoblepas
Serpentfolk / Spriggan + Bigform / Soulbound Doll
Totenmaske / Vampiric Mist / White Whale / Quickling
Cythnigot / Nyogoth / Peryton / Nightcrawler
Lamia Matriarch / Rune Giant / Taiga Giant / Marsh Giant
Chupacabra / Gug / Hangman Tree / Clockwork Golem
Glass Golem / Death Worm / Decapus / Dragonfly
Crystal Dragon / Bdellavritra / Destrachan / Umbral Dragon
Emperor Cobra / Giant Anaconda

And are colossal and Gargantuan creatures still banned? I hope not! Otherwise the Black Scorpion and Giant Anaconda can be smaller?

But really happy to see the bestiary 2 box so soon! Hope bestiary 3 box comes next year!

R.I.P

These creatures are discrimated only because of their colossal or/and Gargantuan asses... LOL

Carnivorous Blob
Titan Centipede
Charybdis
Olethrodaemon
Shemhazian
Tylosaurus
Rune Giant
Mu Spore
Nightcrawler
Nightwave
Iathavos
Ravener
Sard
Black Scorpion
Giant Anaconda
Giant Tarantula
Thunderbird
Elysium Titan
Thanatotic Titan
Giant Snapping Turtle
Whale
Great White Whale
Xacarba

Is there ever gonna be a box for only Gargantuan and Colossal monsters being released?

I really think its a shame for Thunderbird, Black Scorpion, Nightwave and NightCrawler, Ravener, Rune Giant and most of all my precious Charybdis...

What is scylla without charybdis? Can't you use a huge model for Charybdis instead pleasseeeee? *Puppy Eyes* :p

This is the best value in tabletop gaming, plus the quality guarantees that you can use them over and over. Good job, Paizo.

We don't currently have plans for tokens larger than Huge. We're not quite sure how we want to do those yet.

Why not make the gargantuan + bigger ones just huge versions? Krakens, phoenixes and Charybdi also need to grow.

A) It's not the right size on the table, so you would get confused in game

B) At that point it makes little difference if you use another huge pawn instead of the specific one you want
c) Doing them at huge would probably discourage Paizo from trying to do a more permanent solution at the correct size...

I suspect the concern is asbout bases; actually making Gargantuan/Colossal pawns shouldn/t be too difficult

I quote Erik Mona in this thread.

Erik Mona wrote:

As far as costs are concerned, most are tied to the number of "sheets" in a set. The fewer creatures that fit on a single sheet, the more sheets you need to make the set worthwhile. The more sheets you have, the more expensive the product's got to be.

Think about how many creatures of Gargantuan or Colossal you'd need to pull off a truly satisfying collection. Then think about how many sheets it would take at the current size to cover them. Think about the retail price of that collection relative to the ones we're currently offering.

So yeah, it's a good idea, but ouch.

Insta-buy.

One solution: Print off pawns of Gargantual or Colossal creatures at the same size as the Huge pawns, but offer BASES of the correct size. This is already a good way to deal with stuff like zombies or skeletons of Large or bigger sizes.

Here's another idea. Make the colossal and gargantuan a la cart. The cost issue is relative to production, size of the box, number of sheets, etc. If there was simply a list of monsters that people selected, and lets say there was a certain cost per monster, then the costs could be better accounted for by the consumer. Simply put, you only have to print what people buy. Make a minimum spend and have each order come with 1 colossal and 1 gargantuan base. Further more there could be custom bases to account for creatures that have odd dimensions. (This would be a stretch, but would be cool)

Packaging could be like the RotR pawns, just a piece of paper.

While I'm at it, if these sized pawns were created it would be great if they were not just a 2D image, but an X where the 2 images connected. It would add stability and give a better sense of size.

I'll just add this to my wish list.

Here's a better idea:

Make a kickstarter for gargantuan and colossal creatures. You've succeeded at your previous two kickstarters, as did FGG's rappan athuk and S&W kickstarters. Let the KS gauge people's desire for gargantuan and colossal pawns, and I'm pretty sure people will easily show their support and desire.

Also, +1 to tome of horrors CRATE (kthulhu got the term correct for that one ;)).

Kickstarters are for generating money, which I doubt is a problem for Paizo - it's likely more of "how to package them to have them affordable and profitable at once" and that's something no Kickstarter can help with.

Great to see this. I really like pawns and as I currently use Daemons quite a lot, it is nice to have them as pawns as well. Are there any plans to create pawns of the new monsters found in the Campaign Setting line (especially the BotD ones)?

Concerning the bigger than huge monsters, I would be already happy if you produce appropriate bases for these monsters. I can still use the pawn of a smaller creature or create one myself, but the bases are great for visualization purposes.

To further clarify, it's to raise money for a project they wouldn't otherwise be able to create. That's something that many forget, and even quite a few Kickstarter projects skirt the issue (including both of Paizo's...er...Goblinwork's Kickstarters).

I think the Gargantuan/Colossal Monsters set would be a great idea. For people already invested in pawns, it would certainly be a seller. Plus, creating a cheap(er) way of getting gargantuan sized monsters into GM's hands is an area that is waiting to be tapped. For those on smaller budgets, buying giant plastic beasties is much too expensive.

I would gladly spend $40 on a set that included the missing gargantuans and colossals from the Bestiaries.

You could always make paper minies of Collossals and gargantuans.

I would also love to see the gargantuan and colossal monsters made as a seperate set or sets. Like booster sets that compliment B1,B2, and B3.

I like the 'flat pawns' idea. Indeed, even for Huge that might make more sense than the current 'one size fits all' bases. The bigger the monsters the more body form determines what their 'footprint' on the map should be.

The upright pawns work great for smaller creatures which you need to be able to arrange and move around a lot, but for the big critters it is better to have an outline of the portion of the map they take up. If they could have some kind of center pole sticking up for easy lifting and repositioning that'd be a plus too.

Sovereign Court

Okay here's a crazy idea. Paizo take note! ;-)

Make stand up portions of the larger pawns that match the size huge proportions.

Also make an extended donut of cardboard to fit around a huge base and extend it to the right proportions for the larger pieces complete with matching artwork (or not). You could also make generic donuts with artwork for tentacles/roots, textures or whatnot to be used with multiple pawns. The cost would probably be less to just make them black to match the pawns. Or a mix of the above.

It may even be possible to bevel the edges inward so that you can "clip" in the bases though I don't think this is vital.

What makes this make sense to me:

- with two slight notches you should be able to fit a large pawn inside each of the donut holes on the sheet. Certainly a medium or several smalls. You could use these for minions etc of the larger creatures.

- this would save money because I am sure that it would be cheaper than making matching larger sized bases and including those.

Probably a sorry excuse for an idea but I think there is the grain of something that could work there.

Silver Crusade

Excited about this announcement, but I'd almost rather see the product be called Bestiary Box 2. It rolls off the tongue a little easier. I get that it's a box OF Bestiary 2 monsters, so you'd want those elements together, but it just doesn't flow as well to me. Oh well, that's what I'll be calling it regardless how it's printed. :)

Just to be a whiner ;) when can we expect a listing of the contents of this wonderful and much anticipated collection of pawns? I would expect that, given the lead time for printing and packaging, this set must be pretty much cast in stone (so to speak) by now.

Will there be a version of this for the $15.99 price that excludes the bases? I think the bases from the first box will suit my needs just fine.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Sorry—this is planned as a boxed product only. (The boxed ones have many more token sheets than the shrinkwrapped ones, by the way.)

I can see the reason (or a reason anyway) for including bases in this set, but those of us buying lots of them are building up quite a collection. Now they're being sold separately, it seems less important to include bases in the boxed-not-slipcased sets.

Personally, I'd much rather pay more for gargantuan pawns than yet another bag of bases I won't open. (I appreciate that gargantuan pawns would likely push the overall price up by more than would be saved by removing the bases). My preferred solution for gargantuan a would be even more expensive, in fact, since I think a flat sheet would sell them short - I'd like to see the really large monsters done as interlocking X-es.
