The first product I have felt was a failure

*( )( )( )( )

I had bought the Rise of the Runelords item cards, and they are phenomenal! Great art, and every card is tied into the adventure. When we decided to play Skull and Shackles, it was a no-brainer to order these.

What a disappointment. These cards are entirely generic images. As an example, the rise of the runelords cards were specific items you'd find in the adventure. There are two 'mask' cards, but both are unique, gorgeous, and most importantly, your players will actually find these works of art and get get the thrill of handing them a pic of the actual mask or sword they found.

Skull and Shackles is basically clip art of a hardware store catalog. generic pile of coins. generic chest. generic peg leg. terrible.

If any of these cards were actually present in the adventure as something other than background scenery - like if the peg leg card was a spiffy cool peg leg from a pirate captain you battle - well id be all over it.

If your players don't know what a generic, not plot related, not magical, completely mundane hammer looks like, just go to home depot and buy a real one to hand them for the same price as these cards.

I needed a card for a peg leg?

*( )( )( )( )

I picked these up, pretty excited about being able to hand out treasure cards and was pretty disappointed. There are cards like 'Wheel' and 'Catapult' and 'Tankard of Rum'.

While there has been plenty of rum passed about on board the Wormwood, a single tankard of it doesn't really seem to qualify. There was a single ring, and of the items that are in the first module, very few are represented in the cards. The deck is also rather full of things that are unlikely to be given out to the players - the first ship comes with ballista, you don't find a catapult as loot. Peg leg, eye patch, three different holy symbols?

I probably should have looked at the list before I purchased, but sadly I don't see myself getting much use out of the pack for the AP.

Item cards for horders

****( )

I really like the item card sets. I think they are a great addition to the game and can be very helpful. My only issue with these sets are that you get cards like "wheel" or "Peg-leg".... Ok, there can be some obscure magic items in the game but am I going to use them? As a player or DM? If all the items where more useful things it would be better. I would think about a 5 star rating then. But over all a nice product.

Excellent new set

Kieran Yanner does some lovely art in this set. Great items on the whole. This set adds some much needed black powder weaponry to the Gamemastery lineup. There were more holy symbols than I expected/wanted and I would have liked to see another musket. The one provided is quite elaborate so it would have been nice to have a second one of a slightly more generic nature. All in all a great set. I highly recommend it.
