There are a lot of bad things in this book. There are also a lot of good things in this book. Its pretty tight and concise making it a pretty dense book in terms of content. It opens up about as much class content as Ultimate Magic or Ultimate Combat. Its a fairly generic and unnecessary book bringing only a few inspired options along with a ton of option bloat. Overall for the price it expands potential list of choices without breaking the game and I see myself selecting quite a few of them so it rounds out at about four stars. Nothing special but nothing to sneeze at either and brings a lot to the table for a decent price.
Class Acts Compendium, a good product with quite a few hit or misses.
Decided to spoil myself this morning and purchased this compendium, having read and enjoyed the Rogue Class Act prior. Which led to the first mistake on my part. This is not a single PDF file, this is a collection/mass purchase of each and every Class Act PDF all at once. I can understand this from a business and labor stand point, but as a gamer and GM, I'd really rather not have five to seven PDFs open with only two pages of content in combination of everything else I have open for PC or NPC generation.
But I should break this down a touch. What are the things I look for from PDFs like this?
Ease of Use: How easy to read is everything? How easy can I just plug these into a character sheet? Well, each separate PDF is easy to read and had little issue with just copying and pasting that isn't shared with Paizo's own PDFs. That said, as mentioned above, having multiple tabs open on my PDF reader annoys me on a level. 4/5
Possibly Usage: As a GM, I make characters of every class as fast and as dirty as possible. This makes third party products a touch counter productive unless I bring multiple laptops and printed notes to my table. As a rare player, I find each PDF has things I would and won't use. Formatting: Each PDF is four pages long, two of them being the meat of the purchase. Can't really say much on this subject outside of my support for a single large PDF with bookmarks that cuts out all of the extra pages to being shown only once. 4/5
Final Verdict: If you just want to purchase all of the Class Acts, this is a great product. With the potential of being a great aide to GMs and players that want to use things that aren't just from Paizo. The bad news is, this is a mass purchase of all the Class Acts and some things there are just a heavy case of hit or miss. An enjoyable purchase. Something I'd recommend for those that can't find any third party content on the PFSRD that works with their character design/idea and if the person likes making characters and can get their GM to allow non-PFSRD third party content.
Cheapy, the bundle includes the "latest" updates (correcting the occasional typo or mechanical bug) for each product, but none of the Class Acts products have undergone significant mechanical changes since release.
The Class Acts Compendium has (finally, and by popular request) been updated to include a single-file PDF containing all content printed in all thirty-eight Class Acts products. Naturally, the single-file product is bookmarked and hyperlinked for convenience and ease-of-use.
Even better news: I've reduced the price for this product to $29.99. This isn't a sale; it's simply a new price point. Enjoy!
I had mixed feelings about the product. I haven't used it very often as nothing struck me as "my character NEEDS this" but it isn't a bad product (well a few archetypes and options but those are few and far between.)
