Should have Purchased a Display

*****

Sculpt Quality: Excellent; Paint Quality: Good
Recommendation: Essential *Review based on 4 minis of consistent quality.
Comment: These minis are so good, and will be so commonly used, that I regret not picking up a display instead of getting them piecemeal. I'll be spreading out my enjoyment as I pick up a few here and there instead :)

Goblin goodness

*****

I bought one complete case and was so impressed I went and got two more. Of course i now have some goblins to pass on to the rest of my group; or to throw at players unexpectedly to help reinforce the evil of goblinhood. This is simple the best idea in a miniatures line - you get all the goblins you could need in predictable quantities: 3 of each common and 1 of each rare (well in my limited sample of three displays anyway)

Given that most are established scuplts it's no surprise the sculpts impress and the repaints really add a sinister edge to the goblins, accentuating the manic, evil grins. The plastic is the newer more flexible sort so breakages are far less likely (I had none over the three displays), in fact I'd be surprised to see any breakages really given the more flexible plastic and the packaging (clamshell like plastic containers inside the foil wrapping). My three travelled from either the US to Australia, or across the width of Oz without incident.

The 5 new minis are absolutely fantastic both in terms of sculpt and paint job, with a great deal of detail and awesome poses that the pics just do not do justice to.

Across three displays the high degree of paint consistency was laudable, although I think the new colour and paint quality for the goblin dog is nowhere near as good as the original. The only negative I had with three displays was a QC issue with one chieftan having absolutely no base but I fixed that easily - could be an issue since you get one per case! As a product line I hope this one really takes off and as the mini line evolves I look forward to more of the builder sets, can't wait for the undead set.

Love my Goblins

*****

I now have picked up two boxes. I love these goblins. The colors fit what I imagine them looking like. The new sculpts are wonderful. I now have a Goblin tribe that will get the players attention.

Don't expect customer service if your minis are broken

*( )( )( )( )

I purchased the box set and was very disappointed that three of my minis, including Mogmurch, were missing appendages. Mogmurch had no right arm at all and thus, no bomb either. When I inquired with Paizo on how to get replacement minis they directed me to the WizKids website. Much to my further disappointment, WizKids was not yet set up to replace these minis on their website. And once they are (I was told it could take 30 days)they will require me to send the minis to them at MY cost in order to get replacements for a product I have already paid for. This is horrible customer service. I already paid $60 for these figurines. I should not have to shell out another 5 or 6 dollars to send them in and wait several weeks for replacements to be sent back.

Pathfinder Battles comes into its own

*****

This review is based on the following four minis I picked up on a whim at the FLGS:

6 Goblin Dog
7 Goblin Warchief
10 Reta Bigbad
12 Chuffy Lickwound

My last experience with Pathfinder Battles was Rise of the Runelords, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a noticeably improved product in We Be Goblins:

* The plastic is flexible where it needs to be (weapons, etc), but remains hard in the bases.
* The paint jobs are better. Much better. The Goblin Warchief is a clear stand-out, but all of the paint jobs make effective use of washes to draw out detail.
* The cost per figure is down, and the individual packaging makes a figure or two an easy impulse purchase (though it's possible that isn't an improvement, exactly ;D).

One minor complaint remains:

* There are black plastic "blobs" where some of the minis attach to the bases.

...but that's not enough to knock off a star.

The Pathfinder Battles line has shown steady improvement with each release, but this is the first unqualified home run. Recommended.

I've reposted the product listing with additional details. Erik plans to show off some of the goblins in the Paizo blog on Friday.

Paizonians - this is flipping awesome and I will be purchasing at least a couple of buckets worth of the wee beasties.

I hope dearly that the sales generated off this will engender similar offerings in the future in the minis line.

I like it... more sculpts for gobo goodness!!! :)

The question is: what is a builder's series? Other than 'guarantee you get a goblin, maybe new, maybe a repaint'. I'm guessing builder part of the title was that they needed to build enough sculpts to make a profit off of a 1/2 repaint, 1/2 new sculpt set?

Are the new sculpts going to be used in future sets, or will they be exclusive to this set?

For "building" armies of creatures often encountered in large numbers, maybe?

So it is a random mini per box, but it is a small set of 12 figures, so the 24 boxes should have at least one of each. Interesting.

Looking forward to more details.

Orcs are another given, but put me down for a Kobold one as well, would love to see that. You don't see as many varying (single) minis for those.

A set of mites would be nice also! There's never enough of those little guys to go around.

I would like to purchase two these, but I am able to only enter one promo code. I can’t make another preorder, as the item just tells me “in your shopping cart”.

Is there a way to attach a different promo code to each one of Goblin packs I want to buy? Or is it only one promo code per type of pack ordered?

Edit: Oh wait, promo codes give a percentage off, don’t they? Not an ‘x’ amount of dollars for each code?

If it’s a percentage, then I can see why there is an option to give only one promo code.

Variety would certainly be nice. I just picked up another six kobolds (which will be handy whenever we run First Steps II, and also for when I run "Sewer Dragons" at the upcoming DunDraCon in a couple of weeks).

I've already got two of each of the current goblins, which were useful for the start of "Burnt Offerings", but more goblins is always better!

Since there are 12 different miniatures in this, and 24 packs to a case, what are the odds of getting 2 complete sets? I know it says a sealed display should get A complete set, I'm just wondering what the distribution is? (I'm expecting a "not likely", but thought I'd ask. 8^)

We be goblins is a module made for Free RPG day. Nord was a pig the goblins had to ride ont he back of in a minigame, kinda like bull riding.

I'm going to guess not at all likely. There will likely be a spread of rarities in the set, which would mean that a distribution that allowed two complete sets would be rather bizarre (and probably lead to the possibility that there would be distroibutions that don't meet the amount.

As far as I know, we only have 6 sculpts that are strictly Goblins - The Warrior & the Hero from H&M, the Commando, Warchanter, Commando on Goblin Dog and Ripnugget from RotRL. Which means there's one sculpt to be added to the list - presumably the Goblin Dog on it's own, but potentially the Bugbear champion (which is technically a Goblinoid...)

As for the new sculpts, I'm hoping for a rare caster type, and if we're counting Goblin Dog as close enough, maybe a Goblin Snake?

We're not yet sure if the figures are evenly distributed, or if there is rarity involved. However, I strongly suspect that—because some of these are more complex than others—the answer is that there are common, uncommon, and rare minis.

Already got it taken care. But thank you, Vic.

This is an awesome idea. There's no reason for "non-randomized miniature pack" voters to complain (because they're getting the same monster either way) AND it can be done more effectively because it's randomized sculpts.
I'm definitely signing up for two ^-^

At this time, there's no plan to reuse them; if we were to do so at some point, they'd almost certainly be repainted at that time. (We intend to avoid straight-up repacks in this line.)

We need pics. We need them soooo bad.....

I comepletly understand the need to make these random and not have a case be 2 complete sets but I think it would be great if that could happen. I kno wmy wallet would be happier if I could split a case and know that my bud and I are each getting a full set.

I really like this idea. I can't wait until it's time for orcs to get some of this love :)

Goblins, orcs, lizardfolk, ogres, skeletons, zombies... yeah, I'd definitely buy whole warbands! And I don't wish to be ever quoted for this, but I actually agree with Kor here: it's time to show some love for orcs, because you can NEVER have too many orc or goblin minis. I've run a couple of encounters with dozens of orcs on the table (had to use all of our goblinoid and WH minis, with even some Heroquest Fimirs as orc barbarians), and that was both intimidating and awe-inspiring for me and the players. I've dreamed of pitting the PCs against a whole army of goblins and orcs laying siege to their home town; this product line might finally make it possible (I'd love to put 300+ minis on the table and see the players' faces!).

I think this is a brilliant idea for a new product line! :)

Assuming this one sells as well as WizKids anticipates, you can probably expect that a similar model will be applied to future Builder Series releases: we'll need to have the bulk of them be repaints to help cover the higher costs for the all-new figures. So we'll already have to have a bunch of "X" before we can do a Builder Series "X".
