This pdf is 4 pages long, 1 page front cover, 1 page SRD, leaving us with 2 pages of content for the first Spell Power-pdf, so let’s check this out!
Taking the concept pioneered by SGG in numerous bullet point-pdfs, we get new feats herein to modify an existing spell, in this case, Web Shelter. The feats are:
-Durable Shelter: Your web shelter recovers 1 point of damage per turn – great if you want to use it in mildly damaging environments.
-Living Shelter: Create a spherical web shelter you can roll around at 5 ft. per round. Neat!
-Sticky Shelter: Lets you designate the interior or exterior walls or any combination thereof of your web-shelter as sticky to creatures not larger than it, entangling them and getting them stuck in place – again, neat!
Beyond these 3 new feats, we also get 4 rather cool and innovative adventure hooks to implement these new web shelter feats, and they are surprisingly good!
After that, we get the delightfully and superbly weird CR 4 loom spider, who may create shelters and are actually created themselves, in spite of being living creatures: Essentially, they are crafted much like golems, but use their crafting rules to transform a regular giant spider into a loom spider with an attached ironwood spinning wheel. The full-color artwork provided, while nothing special, also helps make the creature memorable and is not something I expected to see at this low price-point, which is nice indeed!
Conclusion:
Editing and formatting are very good, I didn’t notice any significant glitches. Layout adheres to Abandoned Art’s 2-column, no-frills standard and the piece of artwork, as mentioned, is nice. The pdf has no bookmarks, but needs none at this length. This pdf was actually a positive surprise for me – I didn’t expect that much, since I confess to a certain fatigue on my side regarding feats in general and spell feats in particular. HOWEVER, the combination is what sold this pdf for me – getting solid feats is good, yes. Getting some evocative hooks (I wouldn’t mind seeing more of these) is even better and getting a solid creature as well, one that could have come straight from wonderland or the realm of dreams also helps. All in all, especially at this low price-point a more than solid first offering and worthy of 5 stars.
Endzeitgeist out.
