If the Pawns are going to become common, you may want to look into putting them into some kind of subscription..

This is such a great idea. Putting one of these out just as an AP has wrapped.

As for a subscription, I can't imagine adding it to the existing AP subscription and not getting a lot of complaints (similar to the map packs). But I'm sure you've all considered that, and it would be a separate sub.

Sub or not, I'll be getting these.

I wonder if a separate package of just bases should be considered for sale?

I could always use more pawns, tokens and minis for my 4E game. :D

Fantastic! Just wish it'd come out with #1 instead of #6, but I'm guessing it has to wait til the artwork for 6 is finished before.

The Exchange

Awesome! It is a little strange though that this product encourages people to wait until the entire AP is published before they play it. Doing so makes sense and that's what I always do, but some people just can't wait, and so this product will make them feel bad about themselves.

Not to interested in the pawns myself, but they're a very good idea :) Now you've got me wondering what that large pawn is. Some sort of more literal catfish? :p

Hate. It. When. Mockups. Give. Away. Unpublished. Art. Grrr.

Regardless! It's a seacat. Yeah. THOSE seacats. And I LOVE the new art we got for them.

Those guys finally make the transition to the Pathfinder RPG with Pathfinder AP #56.

I have to say, these pawn collections make me a very happy GM. I'd like to add my vote for a subscription option for these pawn collections.

Will there be any chance to get an overview, sample pictures or good descriptions of what exactly is in these collections? I will very probably not get the AP (or many future APs, if this sticks) but I might be interested in collecting useful pawns for other adventures. But when I have no idea of what's in there then I probably won't buy 100 Pawns just to collect them. At least not in my current financial situation...

More bases or extra bases sold separately please!

Pathfinder Comics Subscriber; Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules, Roleplaying Game, Tales Subscriber

I think this is a great product line idea and would certainly get one for any AP I run! The value to me would be way higher than the map packs. My group already self-manufactures paper standups for our PC and uses generic ones from other manufacturers, because getting say "a dozen pirate minis" is otherwise a ridiculously expensive and difficult undertaking.

In fact I'll probably get these and augment with bunches of mook pawns - I think it wouldn't cannibalize your sales to sell DIY paper pawn kits (like the LoF ones) as PDF alongside these. I buy minis, pawns, and DIY pawns and use all of them. But it sounds like you're comfortable with that already since you're doing pawns and minis.

They don't have to cover the same things from the AP - if there was a DIY paper pawn kit PDF - or maybe even something more editable - with e.g. all the people/art from the NPC guide, GMG, other sources, so I could for example print out a page full of misc pirate looking folks using the great Paizo art... Now that would be a great product.

One question on the bases, we can get them separately and not just with the Bestiary kit I'm hoping? Or they're probably compatible with the similar bases other folks sell?

This is a brilliant idea, if every AP had a set like this.. I would buy every one.

Pathfinder Battle are outside my price range but these are great!

Liberty's Edge

Wondering why you jumped form the Rise of the Runelords to the Shackles and Skulls AP instead of going for the the Curse of the Crimson Throne as the next pawn set?

Is it not monster heavy enough?

They're supporting new releases rather than older ones, I would guess. The RotRL pawn set is coming out along with the complied anniversary-edition RotRL hardcover, also being released in June. The last book of Skull & Shackles will come out in August with these.

The day you guys sync this product up with AP-specific flip-mats and map packs is the day you ratchet this operation up to a whole new level. That said, I love the AP pawn collections. Very smart.

Exactly. If these came out with the first one, you'd be seeing a lot of characters from the first AP and then a lot of blanks with little pirate hats at the top so you can draw your own pirates under them*.

Once you see Skull & Shackles #1 Flip Mat: Pirate Ship and Map Pack: Ship's Cabins might be a bit more AP specific than folks realized. ;)

Just curious, but why release this in August when the AP starts in April? The fifth book will be out when this is finally released. I hope to start playing in April, so by the time this comes out we should be half through the AP. Half the content of this collection will be irrelevant by the time it is released.

Contributor , Star Voter 2013

Any thought about an AP accesory subscription? You could group the pawns, map folios, and maybe specific flip-mats or a new accessory for the line. You can do it bi-monthly with the flip-mat conciding with part 2 of the AP, the map folio with part 4, and the pawns with part 6. Seems like it would work well enough, but I don't know how it would affect work flow. Just a thought.

I assume it's because they won't have all the art to put on the pawns until most of the AP is in the product pipeline.

Awesomely good. And do you know what would go well with this?
A set for the Jade Regent adventure path. As well as not having anywhere near enough pirates, my figure collection has some great big holes in the Oriental and Viking section.
I could see those getting some use for PFS modules as well.

Super happy that Paizo is doing pawns for main-line (get it) adventure paths. While I have enough minis to represent, or decently proxy, most creatures I see in the Bestiaries or the APs I do own, I'm certainly happy, from a consistency standpoint, to have these pawns as an option. I think these pawns are a lot more user friendly and a lot less intimidating for new gamers--something that I appreciate.

Why do products like this always get released AFTER we've already played the adventures and don't need them anymore. Wouldn't it be good business sense to release the Map Folios, Decks, card stock Mini's at the same time the first adventure ships so we can actually utilize the products as we play the Adventure Path?

Don't hate,
Just saying.

Love you guys!

Yup, releasing them six months after the fact has to effect the sales of that product. So maybe they could come out with 6 sets OR, better yet, release each one WITH the adventure module. Each Adventure Path module comes with its own card stock mini's at the time of release. Yeah, now that's the ticket!

(D&D 1984 Kidnapping of Princess Arelina: that module came with cardstock mini's.)

Now THAT would be worth a subscription. LOL

What do you guys think?

I doubt they'd be able to swing that with a proper price point. A single product sent to the printer incorporating pawns for all six AP's would be cheaper to produce than six independent products tied to the same release schedule as the actual AP module in which they appear. You have to understand that even though it makes sense according to your intended play schedule for the adventure modules, it also has to make good business sense from a publisher's perspective, too.

Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber; Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Card Game, Maps, Modules, Tales Subscriber

Also, isnt it almost universally agreed amongst those who have run an AP as it became available that it would have been better to wait until it had been completely released? As such, it probably doesnt affect that large a proportion of customers (since only some of them are going to buy the pawns anyhow).

I've never seen anyone voice an opinion who didnt regret waiting (at least to some degree) for the AP to be fully released - no doubt there's someone out there who prefers running episode 1 without having at least skim read episode 6, but they seem pretty rare to me.

I would utilize that, but not everyone rocks the paper minis. I don't think Piazo would want to go through the trouble to include something with the AP that most people wont use.

I totally agree with the time frame though. If Paizo could get these and/or the paper mini line on track with the AP volumes they could move a LOT more.

So, since these are released after the AP is done - any chance for pawn
collection for KM? Having such a huge fan base and being that successful it's a little sad watching the AP's after KM getting at least full paper mini support and KM is stuck at #2...

And yeah, I've read about the retroactive stuff. But hope dies last, they say.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am thrilled to see the pawn support continues, as these are quickly becoming a mainstay on my table, and more is always welcome. As I always wait until I have an entire AP in my hands before I begin running it, the release schedule works just fine in my opinion. I would rather you guys wait and have all of the art available to build a better product then attempt to put out earlier pawns.

Dedicated Voter 2013

I really like this idea except the release date... I would hope to see some pirate minatures realeased around this publication time, or after the RoTL miniature set. Perhaps a Tian/Gunslinger miniature set.
