This book contains dozens of new monsters found in the Inner Sea region—all invented specifically for the Pathfinder campaign setting! Some, like the gearsmen of Numeria or the moth-like star monarchs who serve the goddess of dreams, have been mentioned many times in Pathfinder Campaign Setting books, but others, like the alien vespergaunt or Rahadoum’s desert-dwelling whirlmaws, have only been obliquely illustrated or mentioned before. And some—like the mysterious and ancient veiled masters, and the disturbingly alluring fungus queen—make their appearance for the first time in print after debuting in Paizo’s office campaigns.

The Inner Sea Bestiary explores some of Golarion’s most unique monsters. Inside this book you will find:

  • New monsters ranging in challenge rating from 1/3 (such as the mysterious syrinx) to 25 (the powerful infernal duke Lorthact).
  • Three new monstrous templates: the exotic mind-draining vetala vampire, the blighted fey of Fangwood, and the twisted mutants of the Mana Wastes.
  • Five new 0-Hit Die races ready for you to customize as villains—or playable as characters if that suits your particular game!
  • Beings both benevolent and destructive—48 in all—ready to challenge adventurers in any Pathfinder game!

The Inner Sea Bestiary is intended for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and the Pathfinder campaign setting, but can be used in any fantasy game setting.

I could get behind a kaiju subtype. Not sure what it would say though.
Kaiju subtype: "Kaiju are always colossal."

AS for the Inner Sea Bestiary, are there any undead? Are any of the templates undead?

When is the nosferatu template going to get updated to Pathfinder? I was expecting it in Bestiary 3 but it was a no-show. There was a nosferatu in AP47 but using the template from him is a reverse-engineering job.

Do Want.

With that out of the way, there are a few pieces of artwork for Paizo I've seen posted by artists here and there that have yet to match anything in a published book, so I'm keen on each announced book to see if they might be in it. This one? Maybe.

Seeing as how I just gave Sarah the art order for this a few days ago, and seeing how the art staff's been slammed with 600 pages of layout stuff over the past few weeks... I'm pretty sure no artists have started working on this book yet...

A robot on the cover? Is that a clue that most folklore/mythology/fantasy-creatures you wanted to use are already covered?

Anyway I can't wait for the Monkey Goblins!

It's my understanding that the monsters featured in this book aren't necessarily drawn from Real Life folklore and mythology and that this product serves to provide stat blocks for many monters named-dropped in previous setting-specific products who have not yet been given a stat block.

If that is indeed the case, I really think it's just a matter of using a cool piece of art depicting one of the monsters featured in the book. It's probably one of very few pieces Paizo currently have of the monsters featured in the book.

The world's been building monsters for thousands and thousands of years. It's gonna take us more than 5 years to run out of folklore/mythological/fantastic monsters as a result... a LOT more.

But that's not what this book is about.

With the Inner Sea Bestiary, I believe that we're only looking to folklore for one monster... if that. The bulk of the monsters in this book are brand new inventions for Golarion, based on creatures we've mentioned in print, illustrated, or only implied in Golarion products... or in some cases, are ENTIRELY brand new.

Among them are creatures from Numeria... such as the big robot on the cover.

Folks interested in monsters from mythology/cryptozoology/fossil records/legend/etc. will continue to be served monsters of those types every month in the Pathfinder Adventure Path bestiaries.

I gues I will have look through the Innersea guide and other Golarion specific books to look for things I hope that will in this book.

The biggest selling point for me is that it will have stats for the Lashunta and hopefully more details about there culture and there mentality. I also really like having stats for the spawn of Rovagug, well two of them anyway. I am definetly interested in this construct like 0HD race and hope that one of the other 0HD races is ether a fey or plant type creature.

No kaiju template ever. I did it once before, back in Dragon Magazine several years ago, and it took up about 8 pages and still wasn't perfect.

We WILL do kaiju as monsters some day... but they'll be a type of monster, similar to how behemoths and linnorms and demons and angels are types of monster. Each one will probably be a unique monster as well.

*stunned* Eight pages for one template? Do I even wanta hint as to what was involved in this?

Well... there were 3 sample stat blocks... but the fact is that a template that not only moves a creature up to Colossal in size but ALSO gives it all sorts of weird new powers is gonna be complicated. If only because it more or less requires adding Hit Dice and multiple size category changes and other stuff... by which point you might as well just make them unique monsters for all the work you're asking someone to go through to build the template in the first place.

I mean 6 months, ether way it is still a decent wait for release time.

Are there any list of all Golarion specific monsters and races mentioned in compaign specific products to date?

So, just out of curiosity, is this book going to have a table with suggested levels at which you can take certain monsters as cohorts? Even though I haven't used them, I've always thought they were fun little tables to have.

It's very unlikely we'll have the room to do that table in this book. But I'll see if I can make it fit.

Fantastic! Even if it didn't make it into the book, it might work well as a blog post. Heck, if it doesn't make it in, I'd personally LOVE to see it as a teaser, once the time is right!

Those types of things tend to actually be a fair amount of work, actually... to the extent that if we know it's not gonna be in the book, we generally don't do them at all.

AKA: It's not really the type of thing we can easily throw together as a blog post.

Shucks. Well, for the record, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to find out what level I need to be to take a giant metal scorpion as a cohort, and I'm not picky about how I get that information.

The books you guys have lined up for the Campaign Setting line look amazing. This is about to become a very expensive year.

Well, I can tell you THAT right now.

You'll need to be well above 20th level.

The "robo-scorpion" is a pretty high CR creature... it's not really all that appropriate as a cohort. Maybe if and when we do a Mythic Levels book...

Excellent. One down. Maybe if I can correctly guess every monster in the book, I'll be able to extract their cohort info one by one...

I know the male and female Lashuntas have different racial modifiers but do they have different racial abilities, traits, skill mods, etc.?

Will they update the cover art work/info for this product before or after the end of July?

As far as I know, this is still in development. Generally, we don't have final covers or information to release until around 2-3 months prior to the release date.

Lol you are really over your head for something that appears just like a human female? :D

And the Final Fantasy Generation...

Anyway i'm hoping for some interesting oozes, plants and water-based creatures.

Which is funny, because I am more interested in the Lashunta than oozes, who are basically just different flavors of slime...

I'm going to try Justin Franklin's method here.

So, what's the name of the Giant Mecha Scorpion Of Fire Spitting?

Woot!!! I have a method, and unless James decides to change it, it is called an annihilator robot.

If it's like the Gearsmen, it'd be just called an annihilator, but be listed under Robot, Annihilator. Sort of like "succubus" instead of "succubus demon".

But i've seen Lashunta's in 2 other books already (with story and stats & pics), so they aren't new.

Is this a special kind of Lashunta breed? Maybe the male?

That's the point of this book. Very few of the monsters in Inner Sea Bestiary are technically brand new. Most of them are creatures we've mentioned in other books but never gave stats to.

This book corrects those missing stats.

(And we'll be statting up a female lashunta.)

But there will still be info/racial mods on the male Lashunta as well? you mean that the monster stats/pic will be for the female Lashunta, correct?

Well the females are the dominant ones and I doubt looking at a male lashunta is going to put her in the "mood".

With the patented Lash-lust-o-matic, created by the one and only Technic League of Numeria, getting that bossy Lashunta in the mood is as simple as being nearby. Get yours today for less than 19 gp 9 sp 9 cp a month!

So when do you good folks at Paizo think the list of monsters and how you want them done will be finalized. So we can ask silly and/or anoying questions and actually get some interesting answers. Or at least an idea when this one will be ready to be shipped to the printers.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber

After having just read a snippet of description about the Gearsmen in the book I'm currently reading, I'll be very interested to see how these guys are statted up! In fact, I'm already thinking about throwing in a Numerian story arch to the Kingmaker Campaign I'll be running soon involving one of them . . .

Indestructible though? I'm loving the idea, but intrigued to see how that'll translate to the written page. DR Epic perhaps?
