The world of Pathfinder comes alive every month in brand-new comic books produced in cooperation with Dynamite Entertainment! Each issue contains 20+ pages of story, plus bonus material designed for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game! Explore the backgrounds and personalities of iconic characters like Valeros and Seoni, visit the far-flung lands of the Pathfinder campaign setting, and throw dice in encounters inspired by the comic stories themselves with this exciting ongoing monthly series!

Begin your Pathfinder Comics Ongoing Subscription today to make sure you don't miss a single issue! We've worked with Dynamite to create a special paizo.com-exclusive cover for each issue of the Pathfinder comic, designed with Pathfinder super-fans in mind! Your Pathfinder Comics Ongoing Subscription will bring this exclusive release—not available in retail stores—direct to your mailbox.

Dynamite plans to release multiple "standard" covers for each issue of the Pathfinder comic, drawn by superstars of fantasy illustration like Carlos Gomez and Lucio Parillo. Collectors will want to consider picking up a Pathfinder Comics Deluxe Ongoing Subscription, which features all of the standard covers for each issue in addition to the exclusive paizo.com edition! (There were four standard covers for issues 1–6; starting with issue 7, there are two standard covers.)

Subscribers receive a 20% discount on subscriber copies of each Pathfinder comic, as well as a 15% discount on back issues and special limited-edition releases (such as foil covers, sketch cover variants, etc.).

One Pathfinder Comics Ongoing Subscription will get you every new issue of the Pathfinder comic as it is released (including limited series and one-shot releases—excluding compilations), automatically continuing each month until you choose to cancel it. Instead of paying for your subscription all at once, we'll automatically charge your credit card each month before we ship a new issue. You only need to sign up once, and never need to worry about renewal notices or missed issues!

(Please note that Dynamite will release additional extremely limited-edition covers each month for the Pathfinder comic. While these covers are available for purchase at paizo.com and subscribers may purchase them at a 15% discount, they are not included in either the Pathfinder Comics Ongoing Subscription or the Pathfinder Comics Deluxe Ongoing Subscriptions, and must be purchased separately.)

BENEFITS OF SUBSCRIBING

  • 20% discount on subscriber copies.
  • 15% discount on all back issues and limited-edition variant covers.
  • Guaranteed receipt of each issue's limited-edition paizo.com-exclusive cover.

So, from how I understand that is since each comic is $3.19 (with 20% off) and you receive four of them for the Ongoing, and 5 for the Deluxe, it would be a total of $12.76 or 15.95?

How will these be shipped to prevent from rips/corners being bent/etc? Also, will they be shipped together, I wouldn’t really want to pay shipping for each comic.

I thought that it was only one for the Ongoing? Just the paizo.com exclusive cover.

What do you mean?

There are two types of subscriptions. Either 'Ongoing subscription' or 'Deluxe Ongoing subscription'. The normal ongoing sub. nets you the four different covers (so four comics) where the deluxe ongoing sub. you get an additonal cover, the paizo.com exclusive cover.

Um, I'm not sure that's right.

I think you get
Ongoing = 1 comic
Deluxe = 5 comics

It's 'one of each issue' rather than each cover.

That can be seen when you try to subscribe, it only charges the price of one comic.

Yeah, that's how I read the description.

Hmm, after reading it again, you are right.

Either way, I was looking at the Deluxe, anyways. I did speak with a representative at Paizo and he said it hasn't been decided yet on how they plan to ship multiple comics. They want to make sure the comics are kept in pristine condition (which I appreciate!), but can understand the cost on charging shipping for each comic.

He recommended sending an email to customer.service@paizo.com asking my question on shipping, which is what I have done.

If you select Never Hold Anything, you'll receive two shipments in August (your other subs sooner and the comics later.)

Couldn't you make a new shipping options like;

  • Bundle late products with next major shipment,
  • Ship AP now with current item list,
  • Comics+Minis ship separately.
  • RPG Books ship bundled ASAP

    I would just like to see the option

    Ship with next AP shipment.

    I would be very happy with that option. Sure I would get the comics a couple of weeks late each month but it would save me shipping fee's and not make my RPG stuff late, which i would be ok with.

    Can we get some more detail on what game material will be presented with these?

    Aside: I've got to admit, last night I was pretty much determined to write off buying these. I've been pretty excited about getting back into comics in some small way, and then, beyond being presented with the whole "5 covers per issue" b%&+~#%s, I see that there's another 6 limited variant covers for issue #1.

    I want Paizo to know that I'm rather disappointed that they would endorse/sanction something like this. It was crass when the comics industry started taking advantage of collectors in such a form, and it's even worse here.

    Is this going to happen on EVERY issue (the 5 covers)? How long of a run is planned for this? It's less of an issue if this is a limited series, but a huge issue if it's an open-ended run.

    That said, I've simmered down a wee bit, and am willing to consider the gaming material that's mentioned, if some more information can be provided.

    These should be better behaved now.

    Even with Never Hold Anything, products that are released at the same time will be shipped together. (We may still ship them in multiple packages if it saves you money to do so.)

    As far as I am aware, the alternate covers should always be available at the same time as each other.

    If you subscribe you get the Paizo exclusive cover which if I understand it. You can only get here. If you order the deluxe subscription you get all the covers in 5 comics. To just get the cover you want and only that one, then yes I think you will have to just order them each month.

    We provide some guidance to our licensees about what we think is best, but it would be foolish to presume that we know their business better than they do; ultimately, they're running their own businesses, and we trust them to do so.

    I'm not an expert on the comic business myself, so I was surprised to learn that offering 13 covers for the same comic with prices ranging from $3.99 to $499.99 actually works for them, but they say it's a model that they've had success with. Thinking about it a bit, it does make some sense; there's not a whole lot of profit to be gleaned from a $3.99 book, so the handful of $499 books they sell probably go a long way.

    The current project is a six-issue story arc; where it goes from here is to be determined. They may continue with a new story arc from issue 7, or they may do a new arc with a specific title, which would start with #1 again.

    Not meaning to insinuate you don't take care with everything, by any means whatsoever, just that, on average, comic book EXTERIORS are weaker than the paper you use for your normal INTERIORS, which are protected by a cardstock-grade softcover.

    The size is 10 inches by 16 inches, or the equivalent of four map tiles from our Map Pack products. I haven't seen the printed maps yet, so I can't comment on the paper stock, but it will not be coated cardboard like the Map Packs... I assume it will be regular poster paper stock.

    It's full color, with two-sided printing. On the flip side of the poster map is an actual poster with cool Pathfinder art. In the case of issue #1, it's the Core Rulebook cover by Wayne Reynolds, but we'll be jumping around a lot as the series progresses, basically guided by the principal of "would this look absolutely awesome on a gamer's wall?"

    The subject of the first issue's game material is Sandpoint and environs, written by James Jacobs. The encounter that goes with the map is a small goblin attack on Junk Beach, which is what the map in the first issue depicts as well.

    Dynamite has been bad for having lots of different variant covers for their books in the past. I don't remember the numbers for the incentives but have a Previews magazine in my office that I can flip through tomorrow and look to see what they are offering.

    I can't remember off-hand if it was Dynamite that was offering a slabbed/high-graded comic as one of their incentive offerings.

    My problem is I'm a little bit of an all-or-nothing personality (it took me six months to subscribe to the APs partly so I could first be sure I'd be able to track down all the ones I'd missed..).

    If they're going to put out half a dozen "incentive" versions every month, I'd rather get none. I could see myself regularly buying a couple though, if that were the limit.

    Heh. Oh dont get me wrong - I'm getting the five copies of a deluxe subscription plus a spare paizo.com exclusive (to pull apart for the RPG stuff).

    It's the eight incentive/special covers I'm thinking about - if this were to be a standard month, picking up those would mean I'd go from never having bought a comic before to an $800+ a month habit. (I have serious control issues. :p).

    Yeah, probably best to avoid the incentive covers then. They're for people who will treasure having one that they love, not resent having bought a whole bunch out of a compulsion for completeness. (And I say that as someone who has struggled with the same impulse.)

    I've approved five illustrations for issue #2, the four standard covers (by the same artists as #1) and the paizo.com exclusive cover.

    I would not expect to see this number of special and incentive covers for the whole series. I definitely haven't heard anything about sketch covers and autographed covers and the like, and there obviously won't be Gen Con Exclusive editions for future issues.

    These covers are really for collectors looking for really rare or interesting curiosities, and I definitely wouldn't consider getting them an integral part of reading or even collecting the main issues of the comic book.
