This is one of the greatest things I've ever bought, and it's the first game system since Pathfinder that's made me this excited, and all for completely different reasons, which is awesome.
Yeah the zero to hero, where hero means King or Emperor is very well done in this game. It is based on ODnD so has some idiosycracies that may annoy 3E type players (like the way cleric spells are gained per level). But it is much more balanced than pure OS and has the best economy and rulership rules that I have seen in a DnD type game.
So if you fancy something different, and yes race is class but each race has 2 classes with much more in the companion, and you enjoyed Kingmaker you should really check this game out!
