For us europeans, it would be much more convenient if it was possible for Paizo to ship from within the EU. If this was the case, then I would absolutely buy all my gaming supplies directly from Paizo. And most likely buy a bit more than I do today.

We tried that when we were doing the magazines. Twice, actually. It went badly. And our business is much more complicated now, making it that much harder. (Just one example: we'd basically have to redo our entire website back end even just to tell you what products would be shipping from which location, and that would also probably confuse more people than it actually helped.)

To be frank, I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

By the way, our printer just sent us final weights. The deluxe edition of the book itself weighs over 4.5 pounds. Adding the art prints and presentation box brings it to nearly 10 pounds. Add the carton that contains it all, and we're at 10.25 pounds. And that's not even counting the box that we'll be *shipping* it in.

For comparison, the Core Rulebook weighs just under 4.25 pounds. Frog God's Tome of Horrors Complete weighs just over 4.5 pounds, and their Slumbering Tsar weighs just under 5.5 pounds.

Did I mention this thing is *massive*?

I have a serious question for someone in shipping. I ordered the Deluxe Collectors Edition and decided to have it ship with my monthly shipment. Will the book be too heavy to do this safely? I am worried the weight will damage some of the other items. Should I change it to ship on it's own?

I think you'll be safe -- I did the same. Paizo's very careful about their packing for the shipments. Finally, if anything's damaged in shipping, I'm sure they'll do right by ya.

It's too late for me, but if one were to marry a fellow gamer, this would be so awesome. The only thing the wishlist function would lack for this to work would be the ability to see how many of a particular item had already been purchased...

I did it... I couldn't stand the thought of this book slipping through my fingers. Good thing I held off buying the standard version. Now, to try and keep my wallet from screaming about EVERYTHING ELSE I have to figure out how to pay for...

I was thinking on a slightly smaller scale. Ship all of the EU subscription orders in a shipping container to a Paizo subsidiary in the UK (no VAT on books) with final destination labels in place. Then have them enter the postal service from that point. Shipping would cost less, and I believe the tax/duty on moving your own products from your US to UK branch would be cheaper too. EU subscribers would then not have to handle the mixed and varied duty and tax issues for their own countries due to the free trade situation within the EU. I know it would encourage me to buy more stuff to add to my subscription orders as I wouldn't have to juggle the tax/customs/duty issues.

Plus you would have an EU area phone number for customer support issues.

Thanks for your response, Vic. I would have thought that there were companies that one could partner with, who did just this - helped other companies maintain a legal, virtual storefront in other regions of the world.

The details and regulations in international shipping with fees, consolidation, taxes, declarations, freight forwarding and stuff is probably quite a bit more complex than I imagine.

Oh-well... We danes can't really blame Paizo for the sad and pathetic Danish postal “service”.

If this did happen, I would sub to a couple of lines (rpg, tokens) which I don't currently because of the extra shipping/duty cost. I would probably order more metal pathfinder minis from paizo as well, rather than relying on patchy mail-order from stores in London.

Personally I won't mind one bit if it takes a week or two longer for me to get my stuff if it means not having to deal with the added expenses of importing from the US.

It would probably be a bit slower, although the current speed is variable. With Amazon, I don't get the PDF and I don't get the pleasure of supporting Paizo directly. Those two reasons are why I subscribe. The discount I get is what makes me able to subscribe in that it brings the cost down to a swallowable increase above buying from Amazon.

I'd swap an increase in shipping time to avoid having to pay £8 to the post office for the pleasure of paying £1 in duty on a subscription box that happens to contain enough non-book items to attract the eye of customs and excise.

I would also happily take the time in return for the pdfs.

Also, Amazon.co.uk aint great for ordering Paizo stuff. Paizo.com has clarity and customer service.

I agree to this and to several posts here! The postal service expenses for handling these packages inDenmark are really annoying....

If there is some sort of mix up, and some people who preordered don't get one, and I am one of those people I am going to kill myself (not really just joking)

Better than that: our printer samples arrived today, and I believe we'll have one on display in the store. The *only* difference between the sample and the finished product is that the sihedron rune on the presentation box isn't in exactly the right position on the sample.

We're all thrilled with how it turned out; I think this is easily one of the coolest products we've ever made. Maybe even *the* coolest.

Rather embarassingly, I remember thinking you may have 'peaked' with Kingmaker and bracing myself to begin to become a jaded customer.

Yeah. It's pretty sweet. I just finished running this for my group so it has sentimental value to me I guess...but I'd consider getting it even if not. It's a weighty tome and nicely done. When I get it I'll be sorely pressed not to glue gemstones to my head and hands and have somebody snap a pic of me holding it. :)

I hate you Vic Wertz. Why did you have to make me hold it. You called out to me, as if you knew who I was. You said, "have you had the tour" in a soft, innocent voice. "Why no, I haven't," I replied. From the moment I held your child, I knew I wouldn't be able to resist the urge to have one of my own. For five full days I resisted the constant desire to caress something so beautiful, so pure.

Five days past. I thought I had reached the point where I could safely put it out of my mind and move on with my life. Then it struck! It struck with a passion so blinding I may as well been standing before a nymph. Without thought I clicked my mouse a dozen times, randomly, across the breadth of my screen, unable to read the words written upon the page.

When my vision returned, I had an email from Paizo. An email thanking me for my "purchase" and for parting with one hundred and seventy of my precious dollars. Within moments I was overcome with fear and dispare, not for my future delivery, but for what would have to come next.

I would also never point out that Wayne Reynolds sells art prints at conventions at $15 each, or $40 for three, so that the equivalent value of just the art prints in the deluxe edition is $120. What a bargain!

Like all good ideas, it's obvious once someone has pointed it out.

I held it in my hands at PaizoCon (yes, I blame Vic).

This edition is the single most amazing RPG release I've ever seen from Paizo, and that is setting the bar pretty damn high. The case, the handouts, the prints, it's just such a truly over-the-top treatment. I mean, the case clasps are really metal. If it were a lot scruffier, you would think it was some tome from the 13th century.

Sort of resets the bar of what is possible in RPG publishing. My hat's off to the Paizo crew.
