Okay, before I make my final decision, I need to know EXACTLY what benefits I'm getting out of this deal compared to the regular anniversary edition. The problem is the standard anniversary edition is very vague in what it gives compared to this one. I need comparisons. Especially if I'm going to shell out an additional $110 dollars.

As I understand it, the extra cost gives you:

The presentation case and the 15 prints.

The book is basically the same, except you also get:

Nicer paper. Imitation leather cover. Spiffy spine, trappings and so forth. Cloth bookmark. 22 Player Handouts.

I'd guess the case and the 15 prints is a significant part of the cost. But I'm pretty sure you're not getting any extra actual content, correct.

As I understand it, it's mainly about the look and feel - not about any extra stuff.

Ouch! $200 is nothing to sneeze at.

Currently, I'm being torn between the 'must have' instinct and the state my savings are in...
Nope. Sorry. This one is beyond affordability for me :(

You'd get your AP discount, of course (I'm not trying to talk you into it or anything - but it might be significant on a product this price).

Any idea how much this will weigh? Somewhat more than the CRB?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules, Roleplaying Game Subscriber

IIRC the credit card isn't made until the item ships, right? So, plenty of time to sell blood and other kinds of fluids.... like agua de jamaica :P

The worst part is that I don't think I'll cancel my regular RotRL special edition, 'cause I think it will be hard to have ALL the writers of the AP in a single place, and PaizoCon 2012 is THAT place :D

With that argument, I don't see why you would get the physical copy at all.

Saying that, I am in complete agreement that I need a comparison list before I pay more than double the price.

If it's just higher quality it's not as motivational as if it's actual extra content.

That's what I'm thinking too. See, I'm in the same predicament as

Midnight_Angel. This isn't really affordable in the same sense as the anniversary version is, unless the devs can convince me that this is more than just a conversation piece. I admit that it'd be nice to have the prints, have handouts I don't have to make copies of myself, and the bookmark so I don't have to fold pages. However, during an economic crisis in North America, they're asking a bit much for the shiny case. However, if the price is justifiable and not just for the metal casing, then I'm all ears and willing to haggle.

Because I like having a hard copy in my hands. I'm getting the pdf regardless with it so there's no questioning that aspect of things.

Good question.

And the second question is:
Under what kind of description will it appear in the invoice?
If it count as a book we oversea buyers will be paying a reasonably low VAT e custom tax.
If it appear as gaming paraphernalia it will go up a lot, probably costing us an extra 50%.
So Vic it is very important for us to know under what category it will be listed in the invoice. Can you ask the appropriate department and inform us?
Thanks.

I just ordered mine with no charge. From memory they put a small, temporary hold on your card the first time you preorder but that once your a subscriber they forgo that formality. (I wouldnt make that claim with any confidence though).

We don't intend to *lose* money on it, but this product is much more about celebration than profit. The production costs on this are frankly kind of staggering, and even if we sell every copy—which we hope to do—the profits will be pretty low.

Let me put it this way—it's a paizo.com exclusive because if we had to sell it through retail channels (with the associated distributor and retailer markups) while keeping a normal profit margin, we'd probably have to price this much closer to a thousand dollars.

Like I said, I'm willing to listen to their sales pitch on this thing. The two main issues I've got are: why would I get this over the standard anniversary edition (ie. what extras do I get by comparison?), and how much extra is shipping going to cost considering this thing probably weighs as much as a large brick?

Paizo Superscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber

The shipping is considerable - I'm overseas and had no option but priority. The software is estimating an additional $73.22 for one copy or $118.08 for two. :/

Yikes! Given that I'm probably as far or even further away down here in Sydney, that's definately thrown my hopes of getting this out the window. 270 dollars is the price of two hand-and-a-half swords if I have that kind of disposable income. :P

Well - there's the AP discount for you so it's more like $240 but still.

I'm in Adelaide - a little further than you, but probably not so you'd notice. :p

Hope this is profitable though, would like to see stuff like this in the future when possible.

Wow...I really do have multiple personalities. And one of them has another Paizo account!

Also, to those complaining about the 'value', stop the madness. Limited edition products aren't about the value, it's about the extra. Instead of complaining that it isn't worth it, be thankful that Paizo is an straight enough company to forgo putting additional game content in the limited edition. This is about celebration.

A mini-adventure, taking the players from the death of the Runelord on to 20th level, exclusive to the Limited Edition would be the sort of thing that might fit right in to such a product, and that would make the choice not to get it a lot more painful.

*laughs* Sorry if I came across that way. I'm sure this edition is worth every cent for the collector and celebrator. It's just beyond what I am able (and willing) to part with. Of course, other ones' mileage will vary.

I love the fact that you can collect all of Paizo's content without getting the limited editions, but the swanky editions of things are still out there for those with deeper pockets.

It's the same with minis: you can have paper minis, tokens, pre-painted plastic or unpainted metal depending on your inclination and/or budget.

I can't justify buying this but I appreciate how awesome it will be for those who can. If there was exclusive content I might feel a bit irked but Paizo have been too classy for that.

It looks amazing, if my finances changed I would love to grab this.

I don't believe that's the case. I paid $68 for Slumbering Tsar postage to the UK, and I believe that Rappan Athuk will be much the same. It's painful (and the reason I don't take out any subs other than the AP, or get my hardcovers from Paizo), but that's the way it is. I really don't believe there's a cheaper option - if there was, I know Paizo would have found it.

This also doesn't come at a good time for me - I can't justify adding this on top of my Rappan Athuk pledge, so I'll just be picking up the standard edition from my FLGS - but that doesn't detract from the fact that this is an awesome product, and kudos to Paizo for bringing it to the collectors.

A working metal latch? Seriously? That's so cool.

My question is, if I preorder this now (I really don't want to miss out on this because I had to wait until August 1st), will the discount from my adventure path subscription apply once my subscriptions are back online?
