In the sleepy coastal town of Sandpoint, evil is brewing. An attack by crazed goblins reveals
the shadows of a forgotten past returning to threaten the town—and perhaps all of Varisia.
The Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path begins with this goblin raid and takes players on
an epic journey through the land of Varisia as they track a cult of serial killers, fight
backwoods ogres, stop an advancing army of stone giants, delve into
ancient dungeons, and finally face off against a wizard-king in his
ancient mountaintop city. This hardcover compilation updates
the fan-favorite campaign to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game
rules with revised and new content in more than 400 pages
packed with mayhem, excitement, and adventure!
Celebrating both the fifth anniversary of the Pathfinder
Adventure Path and the tenth anniversary of Paizo Publishing, this new
edition expands the original campaign with new options and
refined encounters throughout, incorporating 5 years of
community feedback.
The Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition contains:
All six chapters of the original Adventure Path, expanded
and updated for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
Articles on the major locations of Rise of the Runelords:
sleepy Sandpoint, the ancient Thassilonian city of
Xin-Shalast, and others.
Revelations on the sinister magic of Thassilon, with
updated spells, magic items, and details on tracking sin
points throughout the campaign.
A bestiary featuring eight monsters updated from the
original Adventure Path, plus an all-new terror.
Dozens of new illustrations, never-before-seen
characters, location maps, and more!
The Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition is not part of any subscription.

FAQ:
Q: Will you be doing hardcover compilations of all of your Adventure Paths? A: No. This is a special celebration of our very first Adventure Path on its 5th Anniversary. Several of the original volumes of Rise of the Runelords have been unavailable in print for a long time, yet it remains one of our most popular adventure paths; that circumstance presents a unique opportunity for us to expand and update it for use with the Pathfinder RPG, and to apply lessons we've learned about making Adventure Paths over the last half-decade. Our other adventure paths are largely still in print, and many of them were designed for use with the Pathfinder RPG to begin with; we have no plans to recompile them.
Q: Is there anything missing from the original AP volumes? A: Yes—otherwise, this book would be more than 600 pages long! Some of the monsters and other things created for Rise of the Runelords are now part of the official Pathfinder RPG rules, so they're not reprinted here. The original volumes also included monster ecologies, bestiary entries, and other campaign setting material that isn't directly used in the adventure itself; those items are also not present in this collection. The Pathfinder Journal fiction featuring Eando Kline is not presented here either, but it has been compiled—along with the installments from the subsequent two Adventure Paths—as The Compass Stone, now available in ePub form. We have also replaced some of the artwork from the previous edition, and replaced the six individual introductions with one new one.
Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition is sanctioned for use in Pathfinder Society Organized Play. The rules and Chronicle sheets for running this Adventure Path are available as a free download (438 KB zip/PDF).

Will there be a combo pack available for the Hardcover and PDF outside of being a AP subscriber? I wouldn't mind some of the PDF features that you noted, but paying an extra $40 on top the pre-order I made for the hardcover seems a bit excessive.
Subscribe to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game subscription before your hardcover ships. Start with the Character Folio and you'll get the folio and PDFs of the folio and the hardcover for 9.99 plus shipping. Then cancel the subscription after your stuff ships. Much better than $40 dollars.

The Rise of the Runelords PDF is tied to the having the AP subscription, not the RPG sub. So the starting volume in question is Pathfinder AP #58, not the Character Folio.
I remember mention of a new Player's Guide for the anniversary edition. Is that going to be going up the same day as the PDF's release or has it been scrapped since I read that?
To answer some long awaited questions: yes, this will have interactive maps. The interactive map file is 30 pages long, contains 44 different maps and is super shiny. There are a few features we've added to the PDF, and a Lite version has been made.
That's just awesome! Thanks a bunch, Chris!
Now, onwards to TPK my group, so we can start RotRL...

Nothing said about it being scrapped. I suspect it'll come out either the week before Paizocon so that those getting it there can have it, or the week after as the subscriber's copies go out.
I'm an AP subscriber but there's no way I can pre-order this because of the postage.
No pdf for me... and I'll have to wait for hard-copies to arrive in UK shops. Can't you just send a crate straight from China?
Shame there's no pdf discount for overseas subscribers, or similar... I know it's not Paizo's fault (especially with the changes to overseas shipping about two years ago) but it does sometimes feel like an overseas subscription isn't worth as much as a US subscription, even though it costs more.
[/vent]
...actually, my American aunt is coming over in August, maybe she can bring it over...
So this should arrive at the same time as the monthly subscription shipment? I only ask because if it'll take awhile longer I'd rather just have my subscription stuff ship separately.

Paizo times all of their new releases so that they ship at the same time as each other each month.
The other hardcovers are rules hardcover, and are discounted since you can get most of the information for free on the PRD. It's not that the Runelords PDF costs more, it's that the other hardcovers cost less. Check the individual AP PDF costs and you should see they are discounted the same percent as the hardcover PDF.
Well, I'm 100% okay with an expensive PDF if there's added value. As a vocal proponent of interactive maps, I can hardly complain at the $42 for thirty maps.

So has anyone from Paizo explained the logic behind the PDF costing 4 times as much as the other hardcover PDFs they put out?
Love to hear it.
In addition to TOZ's eloquent assessment, also keep in mind that this isn't simply one hardcover book but a collection of six AP modules in one place. It's 6 PDF's in one.

By that token it's actually a discount. Individual AP volumes are 19.99 each, or 13.99 for the PDF, so 41.99 is actually half price.
Yeah, considering that to purchase the PDFs for the six original RotRL modules costs $83.94, I'd say a 50% discount for an updated, compiled adventure PDF is a pretty damned good deal.

Because they want to make the rulebooks (which this isn't) far more accessible to get people into the game in the first place. This isn't breaking any rules in their system: it's a hardcover, yes, but primarily it's an adventure path. And the pdf is getting the exact same discount as any other adventure path pdf.

To nitpick, the Inner Sea World Guide is also $10.

And most of the info in it is available for free on two different wikis:

Always use pathfinderwiki.com. The other one is cluttered with adverts and not really updated as all of the wiki enthusiasts have moved over to the other site.
So, I'm an AP subscriber- does this get shipped next month with the Skull and Shackles book, or will I need to pre-order it seperately? Sorry if I'm missing some obvious posts saying either way.

The Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition is not part of any subscription, but Pathfinder Adventure Path subscribers who preorder this book will receive a free PDF edition of this book when the print edition ships. (Note that you will need to have an active AP subscription at the time the Anniversary Edition ships in order to receive the PDF for free.)
There's little that I would love more than to do a compilation of Age of Worms or Savage Tide for Pathfinder.
But there's also little that I would love less than "filing off the serial numbers" of either of those two Adventure Paths, since the fact that you meet who you meet and go where you go is pretty much the main thing I love about them.
Can you imagine if Manzorian had to get renamed for copyright reasons? Ugh!
Giggity! Less than a week until July! I'm going to say that the end of next week we'll have shipping emails sent, and we'll have the PDF in our downloads by the Wednesday after that.

If I preorder a second copy of this for my brother, is there any way I could "gift" the pdf to him?
Last time I saw anything about this, the only way to "gift" a PDF was to give someone a gift certificate for the amount, because all PDFs are watermarked to the account they're purchased from.
That was in 2009, but I don't think anything has changed since then, unfortunately.
You can gift a PDF. I did it during the Christmas season with quite a few. I don't remember the actual process, but if you ask in the Customer Service forum, I'm sure you can get told how the process works.
Technically, the answer is "Many, we hope." It hasn't hit our warehouse *yet*, but we are still expecting it in time.
And it's in the warehouse! (We still have a few other products due in before the monthly shipment, but it's on schedule to happen the week after PaizoCon.)
If I preorder a second copy of this for my brother, is there any way I could "gift" the pdf to him?
Well... yes and no.
You can gift a PDF to someone using the gift options at checkout. But this is only for PDFs you purchase. You cannot gift a free subscription PDF, as this is part of the subscription fulfillment process and is an exclusive benefit of having a subscription.
So if you want to gift your brother a PDF, you'll have to buy the PDF separately.

Yeah, I suspected that might be the answer, but it can't hurt to ask. 8^)
