Sometimes rules supplements read like the world-setting bible of frustrated novelists. While solid world-building is a useful skill, you don't always need four paragraphs of flavor text to tell you swords are cool, magic is power, shadows are scary, and orcs are savage. Sometimes a GM doesn't have time to slog through a page of history for every magic weapon. Sometimes all that's needed are a few cool ideas, with just enough information to use them in a game. Sometimes, all you need are bullet points.

Bullet Points is a line of very short, cheap PDFs each of which gives the bare bones of a set of related options. It may be five spells, six feats, eight magic weapon special abilities, or any other short set of related rules we can cram into about a page. Short and simple, these PDFs are for GMs and players who know how to integrate new ideas into their campaigns without any hand-holding, and just need fresh ideas and the rules to support them. No in-character fiction setting the game world. No charts and tables. No sidebars of explanations and optional rules. Just one sentence of explanation for the High Concept of the PDF, then bullet points.

The High Concept: Twelve alternate class abilities that can replace the bravery ability of the fighter class, to allow a simple way to customize fighter characters.

The alternate class abilities included are:

  • Defensive Stance
  • Executioner
  • Into The Breach
  • Gatecrasher
  • Offensive Stance
  • Physical Prowess
  • Quick Healer
  • Respected Veteran
  • Spartan
  • Steely Determination
  • Tough As Iron
  • Weapon Familiarity

Small adjustments, big changes.

This is an awesome collection of new options for the fighter. This is the kind of thing I look for in a product: innovative ideas. Who knew that you could replace Bravery with so many different options? As a player, I can make a fighter closer to what I want. As a GM, I can keep the players on their toes. It’s products like this that help a GM keep things balanced while reducing metagaming. If the players don’t know what to expect, they can’t metagame. I love this.

Weighing in with the standard three page landscape format, with material presented in a three column format with three pieces of B&W stock artwork, some being better than others.

Ah, fighters....at the end of the day the fighter class is just to vanilla for some folks, with far to many builds ending up the same old same old...luckily Owen likes to throw spice in the bowl from time to time to add the options of variety, so let us see what he has given us this time, shall we?

Each of the options included are intended to replace the Bravery ability given fighters, and I think I'm going to limit my comments to a handful that stood out, as I know Owen has already given a shortlist, and End has as well in his review, so I see no reason to rehash.

Defensive and Offensive Stance are both great options, in that you choose one CMD and gain a bonus to either defend against it, or do it, depending on whether you go defensive or offensive, the bonus increases as you gain levels.
Physical Prowess gains the fighter a bonus against strength checks and all strength based skill checks
Quick Healer would have to be my favorite off of this list, as it vastly alters the rate at which a character heals damage through non-magical means.
Weapon Familiarity lowers those pesky penalties for using weaponry that one might not be entirely familiar with, which is always annoying in those chaotic combats when one finds themselves holding their enemies weapon in their left hand, and a chicken in their right.

An overall excellent batch of alternatives to the Bravery ability, and an interesting concept for another series to be introduced to the Bullet Points, as there are several other class abilities that could benefit from a list of alternates. Hopefully this sells well enough to warrant more of this nature being done.
A solid 5 star rating.

Smart, concise, aptly designed - a must-buy for fighters

All right, you know the drill: 3 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial/SRD, 1 page content - this time, 12 new options to replace the bravery class feature:

-Defensive Stance: Scaling bonus against a certain maneuver.

-Executioner: Scaling bonus on attacks with weapons of crit x3 and higher and higher DCs with regards to massive damage.

-Into the Breach: 1/2 class levels to jump-related/fall-related acrobatics checks.

-Gatecrasher: Scaling bonuses against constructs and objects.

-Offensive Stance: Scaling bonus on performing a certain maneuver.

-Physical Prowess: Bonus to Str and Str-related skill-checks.

-Quick Healer: This one is awesome, allowing for enhanced non-magical healing. Not only awesome to reflect the tough-as-nails trope, this is gold for divine-less campaigns - perhaps even as a house-rule. Excellent piece of crunch!

-Respected Veteran: Bonus to social skills when dealing with martial characters and to leadership, if applicable.

-Spartan: Require less food and drink.

-Steely Determination: Delay the onset of mind-influencing effects by a scaling number of rounds - another absolute winner.

-Tough as Iron: Increases the number of hp (e.g. 0 and -1) that make the character disabled or kill him by scaling bonuses.

-Weapon Familiarity: Reduces the non-proficiency penalty for his weapons - Great for masters of unusual weapons/weapon collectors.

Conclusion:
Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn't notice any glitches. Layout adheres to a 3-column standard and the pdf has no bookmarks, but needs none at this length. Bravery is a boring and imo lame ability, thus I was intrigued by the content of this pdf - also because bravery is weak and balancing the new options with the old ability would thus be rather tricky. Owen K.C. Stephens succeeded once again: From the extremely flavorful (wilderness campaign!) Spartan to the iconic steely determination and tough as iron-abilities and the excellent Quick Healer, this pdf provides a nice smorgasbord of options for fighter that should make them feel even more distinct from another. All killer, no filler, balanced, fun and all for a buck - final verdict: 5 stars + seal of approval.

Endzeitgeist out.

Simple, yet awesome

This is nice solid product that allows a little extra customization with your Fighter.

The options to swap out Bravery are pretty cool, and I can think of a few PCs I play with or builds I could make that would prefer one of these over the basic class feature.

While none of options are amazing, or must haves, they are pretty sweet and for just a dollar, I had no problem buying it right away.

I hope that this product leads to not only more of these "Little Archetypes" but I also wouldn't mind seeing a few more options to replace Bravery sometime in the future.
