Aragorn Didn't Cast Spells!

Just because some designer thought rangers should be spell-slingers doesn't make it right! With The Expanded Spell-Less Ranger, you can now play an authentic ranger without spells, but with great new abilities.

Welcome to the Expanded Spell-Less Ranger, a base class for the Pathfinder RPG that was first presented in Kobold Quarterly #11 and which reviewers called a "must-read" at RPG Geek.

The removal of spells makes this a true ranger-type, but the new powers and expanded abilities mean that the Spell-Less Ranger can hold his own in a fight. With new animal companion options and Ranger Talents, this class covers the hunter's bond, fast movement, expanded tracking, hunting, additional favored enemies, trap handling, and much more, all in keeping with the ranger you know from The Lord of the Rings.

The Expanded Spell-less Ranger includes much new material beyond the original magazine version, such as two new archetypes for the companion-bound ranger and the dual-style ranger, plus new feats specific to this ranger that make them masters of their terrain. Includes a full 20-level character progression plus tracking sheets for favored terrain, enemies, and companions.

Be a real ranger! Get The Expanded Spell-Less Ranger today!

Any update on the HL data file for the Spell-less Ranger and if/when it will be made available?

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Good question, and yes, I have an updated and corrected version of the file.

This file has not passed muster through the Lone Wolf QA process yet. Assuming it does (and I'm sure it's close), it will be released through Hero Lab in January or February, as part of the New Paths Compendium material.

This solution is a bit of a compromise, and we went this route because it makes it easier for the Kobold Press data team to support and update the file as the Hero Lab engine changes over time. However, it does mean a possible file conflict with the older and not-entirely-accurate version.

So hurray for having a better file and better support, direct through Hero Lab. However, it also means that people with the older file will need to delete that file to use the new one.

Oh, well. It wouldn't be the first time I've rebuilt Orin and it probably wont be the last.
Does this also mean that the other New Path classes will be getting their own HL data files?

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Yes, it means that all the New Paths published so far will get HL data file support. The revised Savant might not, because the class flexibility is mind-bogglingly wide.

Any further word on timing of this release? I'm hoping to re-tool an existing ranger character into a spell-less one, and the HL files would make this a much easier process, as I'm sure you know. Whenever it happens, I'm excited about it!

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

There's a chance that the first 2 or 3 classes will get HL support this month. If not, they'll certainly have it in February.

The other classes will go live when they are ready, but the full set should be done in the next few months.

Any word on timing of the Spell-Less Ranger file for HL? I hate to be a pain, but not as much as I hate updating my PC without Hero Lab.

I don't have any info on this front alas but it might be better if you posted this in the New Paths Compendium thread since these Hero Lab files will be associated with the NPC :)

I went to the Kobold Press Forums and couldn't figure out how to post. The other forum was easier to navigate.

Anyway, I am asking about the HeroLab files for the Spell Less Ranger. I have created an 8th level/Tier 1 Dwarven Ranger. However, I have 2 problems. First I was not allowed to pick Shield Master as my feat at 6th level. Also, I picked an Additional Animal Companion as a Ranger Talent but I cannot activate a 2nd Wolf.

What I see in regard to the Additional Animal Companion is:
"NOTE: The effects of this feat have not been implemented yet."

As I am very unfamiliar with coding I do not know what to do. I posted on the HeroLab boards but it was suggested that I post on Kobold Press' forum. I couldn't figure out how to do that so I came here.

Answered in the other thread. Basically, we're still working on those files, but they are coming along.

So I just read through most of this particular forum and have not been able to find where I download the files to import into Hero lab (I am super tired and may have missed it). I found some of the Kobold Press files available on Hero Labs site but nothing that suggest it has the spell-less ranger or any other class. I would love to find out where people are getting these files. I have to say so far Kobold has got the best 3rd party I have seen... the only bad thing I can say about it is wanting to play so many classes at once! lol

The file you are looking for is not an official file. It was fan created and has some problems. If you can just hold on for a bit an official file is being created for the New Paths Compendium. It will have all the required information in it.

Ok, I saw talk of something like that being released in Jan or Feb so I thought maybe I missed something somewhere. Thanks for the quick reply super stoked to get Kobold's stuff added into Hero Lab.

Just to clarify, I am not associated with Kobold Press in any way. I am looking forward to getting the HeroLab files as I am playing a Spell-Less Ranger in a local game.

They were in the zip file when I purchased the spell-less ranger pdf. It's been about a year, though.

Ah, it's an old version and not completely functional. Nevermind.

Yep, the current Hero Lab files were created by a generous fan/volunteer and were certainly nice for folks to have at the time, even though they apparently were not completely functional (I'm not a Hero Lab user, so I can't speak to that more than what I've heard :)

Your best bet is to keep up with (and post your question in) the New Paths Compendium thread. This is where the most up to date info on the Hero Lab files will most likely appear first

Here's what Wolfgang said about the current HL fan files and the soon to be released official HL files, which will include the spell-less ranger:

Wolfgang wrote:

Yeah, it was probably a mistake to include it. At the time, having a volunteer/fan file seemed better than nothing, but having it be incomplete was not ideal.

The new files will be complete, tested by the Hero Lab staff, and much more robust. They'll also be easier to maintain and update.

I will definitely do that, so time to show my true colors of a noob to this site, is there a way to flag a particular thread so that it saves it? Or do I have to search though all the threads every time/leave it open in my browser 24/7?
