Is the soul drain's Fort save meant to be half caster level? (edit: looking around, the other saves here don't have the half either, and they flip-flop between "caster level" and "bokor level")
Is soul drain negative energy? Will it heal the dead animated?
Is consume soul when they get to <0 HP, or when they die? If it's the former, will this instantly kill the dying creature?
It's a very interesting idea, although I'd take care to "bag of rats"-proof it if you ever expand upon the idea :)
Hay Cheapy,
Thanks for pointing that out for us! We love player feedback and it looks like you've found a few little holes in the class! I'll have an answer for you later today when I can review to document. (I am currently on the road) We will release an errata and post here.
Hay Cheapy,
I just uploaded the revised PDF.
The save should be:
"(DC equal to 10 + 1/2 bokor level + Intelligence modifier)"
Soul Drain deals unholy damage rather than undefined or negative energy damage.
Of note however, to my knowledge undead are not effected by negative levels. (Unless you use a spell modified by the Thanatopic Spell I believe)
We clarified the <0 issue. The line now reads,
"...when a living creature within 30 feet of a bokor drops below zero HP, that creature’s soul can be taken and
captured..."
(So effectively that is a nasty coup de grâce on a failed Will save)
I like the class. I really like the soul ward mechanic. I was wondering what exactly it means when it says the bokor can learn unusual spell through study. I also feel like using the witch spell list could be more fitting. And the negative level from soul drain could be overpowered at low levels as an insta kill. Later on, past four or five, it shouldn't be a big deal, though. In general, I dig it, the soul ward is super cool, and it's free. I wqould not complain if you did this again.
We tend to put out goblin rations to explore concepts that might not get to see the light or make for a profitable sales run. As a result, we put a lot more playtesting time and effort into our full products (because you're paying for them). We absolutely love to get feedback on rations because of our limited playtesting runs on them. If you guys ever have any feedback or thoughts on how we can improve them- don't hesitate to post up in these threads like Cheapy did or send us an email at either info@littleredgoblingames.com or scottgladstein@littleredgoblingames.com.
I actually ran the numbers at lower levels when designing this and your right. As a GM I probably wouldn't want to toss an NPC Bokor at my players at 1-3. From the player perspective they have a lot of power at first or second level and I would probably make sure to gear my encounters accordingly. I might want to have any big-bads I toss at them be immune to drains (maybe an undead or something with a few more levels than 1). The same thing generally occurs when I build encounters for my group/playtests though. I make sure that my party's character classes have a chance to shine and times when they aren't as powerful.
We have some excellent new stuff coming out soon, I can't wait for you guys to see it!
