BEST SHIP FLIP-MAT PRODUCED!

5/5

GOOD:
Side A shows two ships connected by two gangways in ship to ship combat.
the smaller one (16 squares long deck) is the "Wormwood" from AP #55, the larger one (21 squares long deck) is the "Man´s Promise" from AP #56 on forward.
Side B depicts the three lower decks of the "Man´s Promise" side by side with 4 squares of water between each. Those could also be used for three seperate ships.

BAD:
Nothing.

UGLY: Sold out!

I recently got this from www.amazon.de for €12.50.

Another great map

5/5

This is the map you want for ship to ship combat.

I see the other reviewer's gripe about not being able to see all ship levels on one side, but that's a minor gripe and that's what map packs and perhaps printing out part of the PDF is for.

What I didn't like...

4/5

I'm glad I bought this map, and while I rate it highly there were some things I didn't like that I want to mention.

While you can fold the map to show just one ship, you loose being able to see a true top-down view of the ship unless you add a new crease to the map.

I don't like the plank rendering, there's a nice wood texture but each plank looks like it's framed with a shaded rectangle.

There are some print and play maps out there that do a great job of showing rigging. I would have likes to see the same technique used here, because a pirate ship is really a great piece of 3D terrain to fight over. I think this map failed in that sense.

Those are my gripes, but I'm still glad I bought this map and looking forward to getting some good use out of it.

Fantastic

The artwork on this map is one of the very best. Each map Paizo outs out is better than the last with regard to art work. This is another great ship map. Along with the ship map pack and the other ship flip map, you can run a sea faring campaign. Thanks Paizo!

Announced for January. The image is a mockup, and will change prior to publication.

I'm guessing this pirate ship is going to be a lot larger than the other ship flip-map?

All Flip-Mats are 24" x 30" unfolded, and 8" x 10" folded.

I wonder if he meant the ship itself, rather than the mat? The other ship Flip-Mat (which I own) has, what, four different levels, side by side? If this Flip-Mat had a different layout for the ship, then the ship could be larger while still using the same, standard, format.

Why no PDF? I noticed this when it was not included in my downloads when my subscription shipped.

I assume it's an oversight because I can see that other Flip-mats still have PDF as an option.

This is my fault! Getting it fixed up right now.

This is why I love you guys.

I spend 12 hours a day purchasing product and not a single one of my suppliers is as prompt as the Paizo team. Example: Since I posted the above I have asked no less than ten suppliers for updates on orders. You are the first responder.

Thank you guys for being so rock-solid awesome!

Thank you! I took a look at your account and you should have access to the PDF now.

Does anybody know if this flip-mat will be used for the Skull & Shackles AP? Much like the Bandit Outpost was used in Kingmaker.

Yes it will be, and will likely play a larger role in the AP than the Bandit Outpost did.

A new secondary image has been added to show how the Flip-Mat works with the Ship's Cabins Map Pack.

This is very awesome! My wife and I love when the flipmats and map packs work together somehow. Please keep trying to do this with as many more as you can!

We will do it when we can.

I realize this product is nearly 2 years old. But I was wondering if the pdf copy of the flipmat was big enough to print out useable copies of the ships for play.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Unless your printer is doing something weird, printing the PDF at 100% will result in 1" squares, exactly the same size as the professionally printed edition.

Silver Crusade

@Vic - Sorry, I haven't bought a flip-map before (and unfortunately no physical versions of this one left, are you restocking this one?) but with the printing, is it over 2 A3 (Ledger) pages or lots of A4 (Letter) print outs?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

The PDF is set up as two 24"x30" pages (one page for the front and one for the back). Your printer setup should allow you to tile it for whatever page size you wish.

We don't reprint Flip-Mats when they sell out—we just introduce new ones with similar themes.

Which Flip-Mats are similar to this? I want to run the Skulls and Shackles Adventure Path and need a Pirate Ship. I really don't want to use a PDF.

Sadly, the only similar flip-mat was the (even longer out-of-print) Flip-Mat: Ship.

Fortunately, both selling out underscores the popularity of ship-themed mats -- and the importance of a replacement. I don't think they'll go too long without producing another one.

Are any of these great OOP flip-mats going to get re-prints under the new Pathfinder branding??

The answer is almost certainly no. More likely is that they'll reprint a different ship flip-mat. They dont generally reprint these things, since they'd probably struggle to sell the same volume second time around - which means lower margins or holding stock for ages.

I'll give Erik a nudge on that point!

Print Edition: not available? for good... or will it come back? I'm about to start Skulls and Shackles and would love these...

Vic Wertz on why they don't reprint maps

Sovereign Court

Understood, but I would assume any flip mat that has a ship on it would be a good seller... investing in another large reprint run would not be a waste of money. At my FLGS every time they got one it got snapped within days. Hmm... I will look into other FLGSes... on the off-chance... :)

In general, when one flip-mat sells out, they'll make a new one with a similar theme but not exactly the same design. For instance, Dungeon (original) to Dungeon (Crypt of the Everflame version) to Haunted Dungeon, or Woodlands to Forest to Deep Forest. This has the benefit of appealing to customers who already have the old versions but the detriment of no longer being an exact tie-in to adventures that used the old versions for encounter maps.

If Pirate Ship is sold out, I'd expect a slightly different shipboard map to be produced in the future. Not necessarily in time for your campaign, though. :\

Sovereign Court

sigh... I wish they'd make exception to their regular common practice and make another run of the various ships products

You might want to consider buying the PDF and then bringing the file to a print shop and having them print it out and then laminating it. It works pretty slick and while it will not fold at least you will have a copy to use until a new one comes along or you are able to find a hard copy of it. :)

Over three months down the line and still no word on a new ship-themed mat? I understand these things take time, but three months represents many missed opportunities. Perhaps Paizo should have an "evergreen" list of flip mat themes that are never allowed to go out of print, and throw "ship" on that list? Just sayin.'

We work more than three months in advance, I'm afraid. There *is* a new ship-themed Flip-Mat on the schedule for early next year.

And yes, we do have a list of themes that we do want to keep alive (ships, taverns, dungeons, etc.); we just failed to notice how quickly this one was selling out, so we didn't have a replacement lined up in time.

Excellent. I believe that just confirming that a new ship mat of some sort is in the pipeline will reassure people that their concerns are being addressed.

Gotcha. Looks like I was late to the party, then. Carry on. ;)

Any word on ship flip mats? I'm just starting a skull & shackles campaign.

Flip-Mats, no, but Map Packs yes.

The 2014-2015 catalog lists Flip-Mat: Warship (PZO30065) in May 2015.

I know Ship was done as a classic map. Any call for this? :)

Can we please have this map join the Classic line?
I could really use it.

I hope there will be reprint of this one. Illbuy
