While not bad, I was a bit disappointed in this set. As others have mentioned, some of them are printed so dark that they can be hard to use. For example, I can see far more detail in the sample image of the Sitting Room above, than on the actual printed cards I received.
I also don't care for many of the broken "props" littered about on the floor ... that limits the map's usefulness somewhat, unless you simply tell your players to ignore what they see. And I would much rather add my own props, when needed.
The "Rickety Wooden Staircase" is 2 scale inches wide ... that's good for the grand stair in the entry hall, but huge for what it represents here.
The hedge maze is interesting, but I'd rather see that as it's own pack, covering a bit more area.
Note: In the samples shown above, the entry hall is not one card, as it appears, but four. This is a good thing. :-)
Ever play Resident Evil? The first one that is. Well, these maps really bring home some of the same feel. They're nice and mood setting, as well as being a good smattering of what you'd find.
Highlights are the Entry Hall and the Hedge Maze. The low points would probably be the Wooden Staircase (seems like only half a room?), and the Armor Hall (is that an elevated path overlooking the hall on both sides or a walls with two narrow passages on either side?)
The Attic, Nursery, Cellar, and Reading Room are all beautiful, but too dark.
I like the tiles content, but the printing was a little dark, with too little contrast between light and dark. It would be hard to see if you dimmed the lights to give the game a spooky feeling.
Like the others in the series, this map pack provides several well detailed chambers for use on the battle mat. I was able to use many of the tiles for the Vanderboren Estate in the Savage Tide's 'the Bullywug Gambit.' Buyers should be warned that these tiles do not fit together to form a complete mansion, many rooms are left out.
