Set Sail for Adventure

Beyond the safety of the shores roll vast seas of excitement and danger! From attacks by daring raiders and merchant vessels in peril, to vessels ready for new captains to claim them, the waves hide countless menaces just waiting to be faced. Now your adventures can set sail with Paizo Publishing’s latest GameMastery Map Pack! This line of gaming products provides simple and elegant tools for the busy Game Master.

Inside, you’ll find 18 beautiful 5"x 8" map tiles that can be combined to form seven common sea-going vessels, including:
  • Pirate Ship
  • Viking Longship
  • Slave Galleon
  • Smuggler’s Corvette

  • Dinghy

Game Masters shouldn’t waste their time sketching masts and rigging every time the player characters go to sea. With GameMastery Map Pack: Boats & Ships, you’ll always be ready when there’s pirates out for plunder and sea monsters on the attack!

Good GMs can never have too many maps at their disposal, and Paizo’s GameMastery Map Packs provide high-quality gridded maps for use with both RPGs and miniatures games.

April 2010! no no no...I need this now

Wow. Sounds cool. Lots of marine/ dock type items now. I'm not sure I need this many but I can find uses...

Qadira

This man is brilliant. Hope they fit in the Map Pack: Waterfront smoothly.

Andoran

Ships that easily slide over water maps to use and move around? Yes please!!

I can delay my groups trip to the Isle of Dread until April - no problem! ;-)

Glad someone is making these finally - I can't believe the only way to get this out of WotC is through an RPGA promo. This would be their #1 seller imo if released under their Dungeon Tiles line.

I don't suppose the maps like this are dry erasable like the flip mats?

Beautiful! Paizo's hitting all the 5x5 decorations our minis crave!

Nope—they're regular cardstock.

If you put a sheet of clear plastic on top of them they are dry eraseable!

Or laminate them. Which also fixes the issue of them being thin and flimsy...or at least the first couple of packs were they seem to be thicker now.

I'll also note that I accidentally wrote on one with dry-erase marker and since it was fairly shortly after I'd written on it, I was able to rub it off with no lasting mark/damage to the map card.

Which to be clear, does not mean you can or should write on them with dry-erase markers, but that should you happen to, it will rub off if you're fast enough.

I would be happy to pay extra--to an extent--if map-cards came pre-laminated, especially since I usually use them in conjunction with flip maps.

Just laminate them yourself. Wal MArt has a nice sized roll in the Kitchen section for covering your shelves at a decent price, and it goes a long ways.

Just be careful as you do it so you don't get too many air bubbles or creases. I hate the creases the most. Even then, depending on the crease, you can probably cut it out with an exacto knife or similar.

I know, me too! Just as I'm about to start running a campaign on the high seas....I find out that I have no map pack to use for it.

Cartographer

The surrounding border of the ships will match the texture of the Waterfront tavern EXACTLY. I'm working on the Pirate ship now!

Hehe, this was my 100th post! Yeah me.

I would really need all the maps as PDFs. That way I could use them in d20Pro.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

I've updated the image and description to match the finished product. Preview tiles will be up soonish.

Funny... just the other day I was thinking about how envious I'm for RPGA 4E DMs for their free bonus tiles (ships), and then Paizo announces this! :)

Cartographer

The water background is the same texture and tonal value of the Waterfront and Waterfront Tavern, so the boats will work nicely with them and on the flip-side. I'm excited to get my hands on this one next month.

Grand Lodge

I love combat on boats. It ramps up the difficulty level of run-of-the-mill encounters. Players have to really be careful where they move and what spells and abilities to employ.

I can't wait until this arrives next month!

Qadira

Wish these had been out when I ran Savage Tide. =P

Damn,

If I have the money, I might need to sail off with these.

I really need these for my homebrew.

This is going to be a great repeat-use product.

Got these in the mail the other day. They are very nice. I can see getting alot of use out of these, you never know when you need a small boat, and if your player's get a "wild hair" and decide to get on a ship...

I like that you can build at least 3 large ships at the same time, which makes naval battles a lot easier too!

Do any of the tiles have a forecastle, so you can have raised decks in both the bow and stern of the ship?
Also, do the images shown on the product page include ALL of the tiles?

The images do include all of the tiles.

Hey, I'm considering getting these for a pirate campaign, but I have one question. How do they work for ship to ship combat? In the previews it looks like they all have some amount of water tiles around them. If so, I'm not sure if they would be able to be set right beside each other for ship to ship combat and boarding. Is that possible with these tiles?

You could always just cut out the extra space around the ships. More work for you but easy enough.

Grand Lodge

Dont cut your map tiles, just copy on your home printer and cut those up instead.

Given that the larger boats mainly have fractional tiles around them, you could set up most pairings within 5 feet of one another.

Are the squares on these sized for miniature combat? Anyone know?

Yes the 1" squares overlayed on the image are perfect for miniatures.

As Chris Lambertz gets time between working on new PDFs and stuff, she'll be going through the older Flip-Mat and Map Packs to make PDFs of them. But yeah, the new stuff has to come first.

Any chance this will be reprinted? I am running Razor Coast and need ships that I can move ASAP! If not, is there anything similar to this product?

I bought the PDF and printed these out. It seemed to work better as I could print multiple copies of the boats I needed and have an epic sea battle.

Taldor

Print Edition: not available? for good... or will it come back? I'm about to start Skulls and Shackles and would love these...

Taldor

man i so wanted this... not available anywhere now... does one of you have a spare copy ya wanna sell?

Grand Lodge

Just as an FYI these are really easy to print out on a personal printer and then getting them laminated some where. They will be a little thicker then a typical map pack but be pretty much the same quality and usefulness :)

That is the beauty of buying the PDF of these. That and you can print out multiple copies of the ones you want... so if you need more then one raft or barge you can print them out. You don't even have to laminate them if you would rather save the money and just reprint as needed. I have printed them out on cardstock as needed and it works out wonderfully :)

Taldor

again, thanks! :)
