The Tome of Horrors? But that’s been done already; why do it again? Well, actually it’s been done three times, but never like this. With the advent of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game as the newest torchbearer for the world’s most popular role-playing game, we need monsters—lots of monsters. That’s where The Tome of Horrors Complete delivers in spades. Starting from the original Tome written with the 3rd Edition rules along with the later releases of Tomes 2 and 3 for version 3.5, Necromancer Games was in the unique position to bring you updates of the classic monsters not formally released by the OGL, as well as, loads of new ones never sprung upon unsuspecting players before. So well received have these monsters been by the gaming community, that this open content has appeared again and again in game publications by other companies including updates to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game system and even appearances in its own Bestiaries.
Why stop there? Never before have all three volumes been updated to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game in their entirety and released as a single, hardbound tome. Monsters from the aberrant to the yellow musk zombie appear in this book, and everything in between—that’s over 700 monsters. But that’s not all; the appendices bring just as much to the table from templates to hazards to a treatise on poison variations in nearly 50 types of venomous snakes. There are also new feats, planes of existence, strange beings beyond mortal ken, and plenty of charts dividing the compiled monsters by CR, type, and terrain.
So you’ve got the monsters—both from the original edition of the game and new—the templates, the multiple appendices on rules, planes, and the n’gathau, and a truckload of sample encounters and lairs to throw at your players, all together in one easy-to-use book. That’s why we call it The Tome of Horrors Complete!
Note: This product is the same as The Tome of Horrors Complete. Only the cover image has changed to indicate the second printing.
The PDF version includes the sample monster lairs and encounters from the Swords & Wizardry version of the Tome of Horrors Complete.
Got back from the office today and there it was, the shipping box split open, bite marks all over it. Two dead neighbours (lucky thing I'm building a pool, so hiding the corpses will be easy). All. My. Cookies. Gone.
I followed the trail of destruction to my library, where I found the Tome of Horrors gnawing on my other monster books. PFRPG Bestiary 1 & 2 teamed up with Monster Manual I, II and III from 3.5 and managed to hide on top of the shelves, but Monster Manual IV had to fend alone and was half-eaten -no one likes that guy. The sturdy case of the Dragonlance Monster Compendium helped save all my AD&D 2e monster books, while the Annual Volumes were hiding somewhere out of sight. AD&D 1e's Monster Manual was being masticated when I got there, after the ToH ignored OD&D's one because it didn't know it was mixed along with the other two manuals.
Finally managed to control it by having my two dogs circled around it while I hurled low-rarity monster cards from MTG at it. Got it chained in the basement for now. Not sure how much longer I'll be able to keep it here without the authorities noticing, however. I think it goes beyond the limits of the Exotic Animal Ban law or something.
You win the Easter Egg hunt! That particular typo has been carefully nurtured ever since it appeared in the first TOH back in 2002. It's just too good to fix. :-)

A funny story related somewhat to this. When I was writing lair encounters for the Tome, I opened the original grimstalker (banaan) word file. And the entry started like this:
"The grimstalkers or bananas (as they prefer to call themselves) ..."
Now, it's been corrected to banaan in the book, but it was there in the original file and I wanted to preserve it in some little way. That's why if you look at the grimstalker lair in the SW Tome or the free download, you'll find the lair a banana plantation with the banaan riding in a banana tree treant.

Jeff e-mailed me when he found this typo, and it was SO tempting to leave it in there, but I thought it might be over the top and Jeff fixed it. Still, love the banana plantation!
Just arrived this morning! THis thing is huge! Took me like 45 minutes just to flip through it! It may not be the thickest or most expensive Gaming Book I've ever bought (Ptolus still holds that distinction), but I'd say it's a VERY close second.

There are two different versions. One for Pathfinder and one for Swords & Wizardry. Bill said a few weeks ago there are only 50 copies left of the S&W book. When he said that I ordered one from Frog God Games directly.

So, now I have one of each.
What Shem said is correct, except I believe there are fewer than 50 S&W ToHCs left. You have to order these directly from FGG's website: www(dot)talesofthefroggod(dot)com
Does the newer version have the Swords & Wizardry stats in it too?
Thanks
Mike
To add to what Shem said: The only thing different about the "Unlimited" version is the cover. We vastly underestimated the demand for the book and had already stated that it was a one-time shot to get it (Not a sales technique, we were straining the bank to print the quantity we did get out, initially).
So to be fair to both collector's and those who missed out of snagging a copy, we changed the cover for further printings.
I would like to point out what I perceive to be errors in Shinzakei's review

First the CR of the monsters is wrong in many cases. For example a CR 5 Black Skeleton in the tome, has dr 10/ bludgeoning and good. What kind of CR 5 has a DR with AND that is too strong at a CR 5.
The kind that appears in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game
Such as the Werebear CR 4 and has DR 10/silver (from the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Bestiary 2),or the Gemstone Gargoyle CR 6 that has DR 10/adamantine (from the Pathfinder Chronicles: Classic Horror Revisited).
DR is for creatures that are Spoilers.
"A spoiler is a creature with specific defenses. Specific defenses help make one monster different from another. For example, a creature with spell resistance (SR) shifts power balance away from spellcasters, while damage reduction (DR) shifts power balance toward spellcasters. One often finds creatures with both DR and SR, such as outsiders; this combination blunts the effect either special ability would have on its own.
DR is a strange effect, because it can punish melee attackers in general but reward melee attackers who deal lots of damage. Displacement has a more pure effect, hurting attack rolls but leaving area-attacks and spells unaffected. "--Monster Niches by Jesse Decker and David Noonan
So while it might increase the CR of an encounter for the martial character it has zero impact on your spellcasters.

Also there are a ton of monsters over CR 20 and pathfinder doesn't have a epic level book at this time. (could be a few years yet) so all these monsters with very high CR (even one with a 39) you can't even use with your parties. Its neat that there are monsters out there that are that nasty but i can't use them for years if ever (paizo may not release a epic lvl book)
The Pathfinder Roleplaying game has published 20 monsters over CR 20. Tome of Horrors complete has 16, IMHO that does not constitute a ton since pathfinder has more. Also I am pretty sure this keeps it under 10% of the product.
There is a Pathfinder Compatible Product for epic levels, and ToHC is a 3PP product (I won't link to it here as I think its uncool to advertise someone else's product in the Frog God Games Thread) So if its OK to use this 3rd party content it should be OK to look at using other 3rd PP content.
Also not every encounter is meant to winable or even within a players CR there are monsters you run into that are there simply for the "There is always a bigger fish" effect. Insurmountable challenges are a part of life, and therefore for the stimulationist role-player rather than the gamist, they should be a part of the PFPRG.
Just downloaded this. The book is great so far, however I have to use Adobe Acrobat to view. I normally read PDF's with Preview under Mac OS X Lion but the formatting is all screwed up when viewing this. I hope they fix it please!!!!
As the file is a pdf, I imagine the best viewing software to use would by its nature have to be Adobe Acrobat. But I am not the expert here. Perhaps Chuck can chime in on this.
I live in the UK and have been trying to get hold of this since it was published, to no avail. I missed out on the limited edition because it never came to the UK and now even after a year the Unlimited STILL has not come here.
Come on guys. I am unwilling to pay not just the 100 dollars for the tome but very nearly as much again for postage its not reasonable. Nor is it reasonable to ignore UK/European fans so utterly for so long.
Do something. I would buy it and I know others would too, but it has to have reasonable postage rates or be distributed in the UK. Waited long enough now. Somebody help.
If any UK retailer is willing to get this, or knows someone who can (I mean hell, some of you must physically visit the US and just BRING ONE BACK WITH YOU) then contact me at

FGG has been a start up company for the past year or so. They did preorders for this and Slumbering Tsar because they did not have the resources to print a bunch of them without knowing they would sell.
Now with the RA kickstarter that generated almost $250,000 they will finally be getting their products into Game stores in the US. I have no clue about future plans in the UK. When they did TOH they did not have a distribution channel to Games Stores. I do not think you will find one in any stores in the UK.
I think your only chance will be to eat the shipping. I also do not think these will be available for year but they will sell out in the not too distant future.
If there is a game store in the UK that would like to carry our products, we'd be happy to work with them. Have them contact Bill at bill[at]talesofthefrogod[dot]com. It's not that we don't want to have books overseas, it's just that there's got to be a distributor who will carry them.

You're missing the third link in the chain: between the producer and the retailer, there's the distributor. And those, given the nature of gaming industry, tend to be notoriously fickle to deal with. Also, the smaller company you are, the harder it gets.
And finally, EU market is a nightmare because every country has it's own distributor for gaming products - if a company wants to go European, it has to deal at very least with 5 countries (Germany, UK, France, Spain, Italy). That's far more difficult than dealing with US gaming distributors (all 3 of them, IIRC) who cover the prime target for RPGs.
In the case of mainland europe, that would be true. But the UK speaks english and uses mainly Esdevium Games as distrubutor as far as I know (though there are smaller ones too). Distributing to the rest of the continent is not as necessary unless products are localised. If not localised, then the those able to speak english know to order from the UK, and the postage within the EU is cheap so the rest of the continent would be happy too.
Adding the UK to the chain requires dealing with 1 more distributor and effectively makes all who have adequate english skills in the EU happy.
I would like to point out that we are just now able to get to distributors in the U.S. We are a company of 7 people plus freelancers and we are just getting off the ground. We DO want to distribute in Europe and will when we are able.

That's why you need to hire me and Sweet Sting (my whip). I will happily lash people with Sweet Sting till they do what you want. :)
I previously purchased the pdf for this product and absolutely love it. I now want to buy the massive printed Tome and I see Paizo offers the bundle pdf/print is there a discount just for the printed book since the pdf is already in my paizo downloads?
I know, I should have bought the entire package at one time.
I just got my PDF, and when I went to download it was 350 MB. That's HUGE for a book. It'll take another half hour to get it downloaded. This is awesome. Very awesome.
Have been trying to get this book in the UK for the last 2 years. Have begged, cajoled, urged paizo and frog god to get a UK distributor.
Sure Frog God is small, but Paizo no longer is and frankly im fed up abot the lack of interest in British and European business displayed, and I am also unhappy about the feelings that us non US fans dont matter a damn.
The book is expensive as it is, we dont want to pay 55 dollars postage.
So yet again, for the however many times we have asked since launch...
HELP US and get products like this out to Europe, I still want this book and I am still not willing to pay so much postage for it. Send it as balast over 3 months, I dont care, but do something.
I really dont want more excuses. 2 years is long enough to have brought this over by surfboard. How many times do we have to ask?
Frankly I have found the gaming industry and retail extremely unhelpful over this issue. I also absolutely do not believe that there is no way to ship this over cheaply as part of some other shipment. If the will is there, if the desire to be helpful and to get a product to a customer was there, if you were prepared to make the slightest effort to do it, by now I would have had it for over a year.

We aren't turning any UK distributors down, but non have offered to do business with us either. We have sought out some new distributors this year and we did add a handful on (unfortunately non in your area). We are always looking for more distributors or game stores to do business with! It is not on our end that we are failing to get the book over there. Australia is another location that we would love to have a distributor. We will continue our efforts but please know that this isn't a single sided decision. They have to want to play too. You can always have your local game store contact us to work out a deal.
I would count local as anywhere in the UK, but none of the game stores I contacted want to buy it because since they would be only buying a couple of copies they'd have to pay full postage too. Most of the gamestores in the UK sock from esdevium as far as I know. They are the ones who would need to play. Unless amazon uk can be persuaded to stock.
Actually ANY distributor in Europe would work since EU postage rates are low, but I expect the non english speaking areas are less likely to be interested (though the germans are big gamers).
Aurore,
What you are failing to understand is that Paizo and Frog God games DO both want to gain a distributor in Europe and Australia. It is not as easy as you are thinking though. The Distributor itself has to want to do the deal. Paizo and FGG just can't go there and distribute the books and such themselves.
So while in your mind any would do, you are right any would do but only when THEY want to do so. Tell them top contact Paizo and FGG and I am sure that they can work some sort of deal out. Remember too that a DEAL has to be made and Pazo and FGG can't be the ONLY ones to pay the shipping and such to them. It will get passed on to the distributor as well as the consumer... in that case you as well. So it is not as simple as you might like.
The biggest UK distributor of gaming stuff (Esdevium) simply does not do business with companies such as Frog God. They take their wares from the biggest US distributor (Alliance). I doubt they're going to break their policy just because of one niche (D&D isn't as big a thing in the RPG market in EU as it is in the US) product.
Maybe the german [URL=http://www.f-shop.de/cgi-bin/f-shop/rollenspiele/pathfinder}F-shop[/URL] could be persuaded. They are affiliated with Ulisses Spiele, the publisher of the translation, and carry lots of third party stuff for Pathfinder. No Frog God stuff, though.
The minimum order to the UK is 120€, but they don't take shipping.

I'm wondering, if I combined shipping with a big subscription order would it still be just $55 to the UK?
Basically, because it has tipped some kind of threshold, would that mean my sub shipping cost would be wiped out?
Probably. It costs me $65 to ship this to Australia. If I add 4 AP instalments, the shipping charge actually drops by $10 (due to the value of the order going over $100).
I got my print copy of the limited version (yay!) through Noble Knight Games with a very reasonable $16.40 international shipping cost to Germany. They had a special deal somehow enabling them to ship via M-bag which is rather cheap. Just shoot them a mail to inquire about actual postage, or put one in the cart and see postage options they offer...
Currently if i add the Ultimate edition to the cart the cheapest option is $23.40 for International Surface Air Lift Printed Matter. Add to that that the book is cheaper there and you get quite a deal. No PDF though...
Noble Knight games has sold me a copy and they charged very reasonable shipping as you said. In fact given the special offer on the book, it's cost me about as much as walking into Frog God's office and buying it in person.
The reason seems is they are willing to send surface, which can take up to 60 days, but which is fine by me.
I don't know why others don't do the same. Postage seems like some kind of arcane mystery to me.
