The Tome of Horrors? But that’s been done already; why do it again? Well, actually it’s been done three times, but never like this. With the advent of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game as the newest torchbearer for the world’s most popular role-playing game, we need monsters—lots of monsters. That’s where The Tome of Horrors Complete delivers in spades. Starting from the original Tome written with the 3rd Edition rules along with the later releases of Tomes 2 and 3 for version 3.5, Necromancer Games was in the unique position to bring you updates of the classic monsters not formally released by the OGL, as well as, loads of new ones never sprung upon unsuspecting players before. So well received have these monsters been by the gaming community, that this open content has appeared again and again in game publications by other companies including updates to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game system and even appearances in its own Bestiaries.
Why stop there? Never before have all three volumes been updated to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game in their entirety and released as a single, hardbound tome. Monsters from the aberrant to the yellow musk zombie appear in this book, and everything in between—that’s over 700 monsters. But that’s not all; the appendices bring just as much to the table from templates to hazards to a treatise on poison variations in nearly 50 types of venomous snakes. There are also new feats, planes of existence, strange beings beyond mortal ken, and plenty of charts dividing the compiled monsters by CR, type, and terrain.
So you’ve got the monsters—both from the original edition of the game and new—the templates, the multiple appendices on rules, planes, and the n’gathau, and a truckload of sample encounters and lairs to throw at your players, all together in one easy-to-use book. That’s why we call it The Tome of Horrors Complete!
Note: This product is the same as The Tome of Horrors Complete. Only the cover image has changed to indicate the second printing.
The PDF version includes the sample monster lairs and encounters from the Swords & Wizardry version of the Tome of Horrors Complete.
Question...other than Tome; what is the largest book ever made for FRP games?
I cam up w/ Ptolos at 638
Free City of Haven (Gamelords) at about 720 (depends on edition)
Worlds largest City and Dungeon (500 or so)
Castle Whiterock (not sure)
Wilderlands (3 books; don't have total page count)
What else? Largest verified page count wins a prize...winning book cannot be a FGG book.
World's Largest Dungeon is 840 pages (not including maps, which are separate)
World's Largest City is 704 pages
War of the Burning Sky (PoD) is 696 pages
Castle Whiterock is over 700, but it's split into multiple books
Legendary Lands of Arduin (softcover) is 821
Game of Thrones Deluxe Edition is 576
Ptolus is 672
So - among the ones I know of, World's Largest Dungeon would be #1.
Excellent! I missed the first one due to arriving home too late from work, so I'm pretty glad I got the chance to pre-order it this time.
I do wonder, though, a book this big, does it have its own CR?
First monster in the book.
Tome of Horrors
This massive volume has covers formed from the scaly flesh of some fiendish creature and is bound in fittings of brass and adamantine. Threehollow-eyed skull emblems look out from the points of a thaumaturgic triangle, mystical numerals emblazoned on their foreheads. The cover seems to shift, and the pages ruffle slightly, though there is no breeze to cause it to do so.

I just hate it when Vaughn does something really, really good.
I’m not going to review this mighty tome as anything I write is going to be biased to my old sparring partner, however, having got this corpulent tome sat at my side that’s where it’ll stay, as a reference book to be used again and again in years to come.
There’s a vast amount of material in here, I’ve only got as far as apparition so far as the ideas for adventures and encounters keep coming with this endlessly devious list of horrors and beasts. Whilst there’s plenty of meaty encounter material herein, there’s also monster after monster that has whole AP written on it. Add to that hazards, a great list of templates (Advanced Bestiary for pathfinder next please), animals and some really vile things called N’gathau and you have a book that cannot be taken in in the short term, it’s a book that’ll be more than worth its weight in gold over years to come. Like the best rpg reference books this excites the imagination, a simple flick of the pages brings something new both for GMs and players, and yet for those of us who’ve been along long enough to recall some pretty ancient adventures some old favourites make a welcome return.
This book is just endless in its potential, huge congratulations to Scott, Erika, Bill and Clark, as well as the other contributors, for undertaking such an incredible project. It also adds more weight to the widely held belief that Vaughn is an undead who never sleeps and is plotting world dominion.

All I can say it, it's the largest one I own by a mile; previously the largest RPG book I had was the PF Core, and this is more than double the thickness of that.
I just bought this. I hope you guys aren't lying about how awesome it is because my wife just told me that I am not getting any gifts for Christmas and my Birthday.

Anyone have any idea when this is going to ship? I ordered mine just about two weeks ago, and I'm noticing people are already writing reviews...
They are writing reviews for the Limited edition. But since the content of both books is exactly the same (only the covers differ), the reviews are relevant.
As bigkilla said, it’s probably going to be awhile until the Unlimited edition is shipped out.
So I realise that this is basically a monster manual, not the Tomb of Horrors adventure, but are there any plans for an official Pathfinder Tomb of Horrors?

"Tomb of Horrors" (and "Return to the Tomb of Horrors") is owned by Wizards of the Coast, and cannot officially be converted by a third-party without a license agreement of some sort.

Uh, this book is the TOME of Horrors...
As for the TOMB of Horrors adventure. The closest you'll get (aside from converting it yourself) would be HERE, as it is Wizards of the Coast's IP...
I spotted more than one monster from the old "Tomb of Horrors" adventure that the original "Tome of Horrors" had converted to 3.0 rules back in the day. Those monsters from the original "Tome" are now converted to Pathfinder rules in the new "Tome of Horrors Complete (PFRPG)".
Paizo is handling this one in the shipping department. I'm wondering too!

We're hoping soon! (though sadly it wasn't in time for the October subscription shipments). We are anxiously awaiting the shipmentfrom the printer at our warehouse!
I missed out on limited run due to low funds but I finally got my pre-order in on the unlimited version today and loving the PDF so far. Can't wait to have the physical book. Yeah!
I am anxiously awaiting. I bought both ToH Unlimited and the full subscription for Slumbering Tsar. Love all the pdfs. Once I get a book, and if it's QUALITY is as good as Frog Gog Game's reputation, I think I will get the Tome of Adventure Design (TOAD).

You will not be disappointed, leem, I assure you. Can't wait to hear how much you like the binding.

I am a little concerned. Mine was shipped on the 24th and it usually only takes a day for things to get to me due to how close I am to Redmond. It was not at my box yesterday early in the day. I will check again this afternoon...
Let me explain a little about the number of advertisements.
Given how this book was put together, there was an exact total number of pages the book was required to have. With stitch bound books you have to have a certain number of pages per set of stitched pages and those sets are then stitched together. That is just the way these types of books are bound.
Either we fill those extra pages up with advertisements of our many products so you have something to fill your eyes, or we keep them blank. We erred on the side of filling the pages.
I am sorry if that troubled you. I assure you, however, that those advertisement pages in NO WAY added to the cost of TOHC. I hope that was helpful.
Books of this size are first printed in 16-page bundles and then stitch-bound onto the cloth binding.
This means that the books final page count needs to be divisible by 16. Instead of blank pages I insert ads into those spots. Our softcover books work off the same principle but the operative number is 4 instead of 16. (4 is the absolute minimum number of pages in a book.)
As part of our deal with Paizo, we agreed to run a certain number of ads for them in the back of the book. This happened to knock the final document 1 or 2 pages into another set of 16. So instead of leaving those pages blank, I filled them with ads for our other products.
It was either leave the pages blank or do something useful with them and I chose the latter. <smile>
This was by no means a way to inflate the price or final, physical page count. In fact, the cost came out of our pockets, not the customers and (I think) that we've only ever quoted a total page count based off of usable material.
I don't think it's an issue to downgrade a review of the book for (it being an unavoidable artifact of the printing process) but you are welcome to your own opinion and thank you for your review, Delthos!
An awesome show/thread pitting the ToH converted monsters against official WoTc conversions...

The original limited Tome of Horrors Complete (PFRPG) is still available at Noble Knight Games here. And let me say that NK has some very reasonable international postage options! (You get no pdf there though...)
I just received this wonderful piece of work last night. I thumbed through it and it is amazing. I am anxious to pit these creature entries against groups. It also makes me eager to see some epic rules out because of the 20+ CR rating creatures. Thanks for bringing it back for the unlimited printing!
