Disappointed

2/5

I was trying to decide between this set, or the Paizo one. My local store is selling the Paizo one for $16, and ordering online wouldn't get it here in time for the game I needed it for. So I gave this set a try.

What's good:
-The pictures match the scenes well and can add an element of realism to the game.
-The deck uses the rules/suggestions as outlined in the Gamemastery Guide well.
-There are more cards here than in the Paizo version.
-Cheap.

What's disappointing:
-I'm fairly tech savvy, but couldn't figure out how to print this as cards. Photoshop wouldn't let me open the file, and when I view it as a PDF, it shows each card as a full page. I guess I was expecting it to be laid out as ready-to-print cards.
-Lack of variety. I haven't seen the Paizo deck, but it felt like this deck relied a lot on Knowledge: Nature, survival and Perception, with a few other skills thrown in here and there. Of course that makes sense for a forest chase, but I would have liked to see more variety and creativity.

What I had to do:
-I used some old business cards and wrote on the backs. I used this deck as inspiration for a few of the cards, and then came up with my own, for example:

"Vines" Attack vs AC 15 or Perception 20 (lower to 15 if you have rope tricks)

"Thick overgrowth" Stealth DC 20 or Disguise DC 15

"Wild Horses" Ride DC 20 or Handle Animal DC 15

I tailored the cards to my players and to the particular chase I knew was going to happen and we had a blast. I will always try to do this for future adventures.

-I just ordered the Paizo deck in case a chase happens unexpectedly.

Here is a little help that Donna Fitch used that you might find very helpful: -- http://www.rpgnow.com/product_reviews_info.php?&reviews_id=24151&pr oducts_id=65339

I was so relieved to find these cards. They contain all the spells in the Pathfinder core book, one spell per page. At first I was unsure about how to print them out, but a little experimentation solved that. The one spell per page arrangement allows for maximum flexibility. Simply set your printer to the desired number of cards per page. I started with 9 per sheet, printing on card stock, but the letters were rather tiny. Younger eyes than mine might find them acceptable. I settled on 4 per sheet, which almost exactly fit to pre-scored postcard stock (there's a little overlap when they're torn apart, but that's okay). I hope this helps!
