Too Much $$$

2/5

I hate to be a bad mouth, and I am honestly not motivated here by vehemence. This figs just cost way too much for what you get ESPECIALLY because they are random and plastic.

I am not saying there is anything better out there - as far as I can tell there isn't. My local store is 1 of 2 significant stores, in a metro area of around half a million folks. The store I frequent has yet to sell out of the ORIGINAL , the 2nd line has barely sold at all, and he has refused to order anything else. It just doesn't sell. And its not placement - they are quite actually the first and last thing you see when you enter his store.

When I bought DND mini's the price for randoms eventually became to high for me and I was able to still get the minis I wanted by buying singles. So far, everything I have seen indicates the singles market is incredibly over-inflated.

So, quality wise they are top notch. The paint jobs and sculpts are in every way superior to what I have seen anywhere else here in America. There are foreign companies doing comparable work in similar markets, but that is irrelevant to this review.

For me though, the final thing comes down to money. They are too expensive.

Individual figures

2/5

I would be more willing to buy these if one could select individual figures desiered rather than getting a "Grab Bag (box)" of unknowns.

Vibrant, but Overpriced

2/5

I didn't even want to buy any originally because of the price, but I decided to grab 3 small (1 medium or 2 small figures each) and 1 large (1 large figure) boxes. This cost me $19 before taxes and I ended up with 1 large and 3 medium figures. When D&D Miniatures was producing boosters I would pay $15 or $16 before taxes to get 8 figures and I'm pretty sure there was 1 large per booster.

I then placed them side by side with the D&D Miniatures I have and I would say the quality is about the same, but the Pathfinder minis are more vibrant. The D&D minis though each came with a stat card and could be used to play a separate minis tactical game.

Even if I were to get 2 small figures in each of the small boxes of Pathfinder minis I purchased I'd have 7 figures. For $3 or $4 less I would have 1-4 more figures and I never remember seeing a full booster of D&D minis as small figures, maybe half at most.

I really like the Pathfinder RPG books, but I'm sorry, I won't be buying any more minis because I think they're overpriced. Maybe I'm just behind times though because I know the D&D minis are not being produced any more, but I can still buy singles for $1 each for commons and uncommons.

1-2 random for HOW MUCH!

1/5

For random minis, the pricing is obscene. Tack on a buck and let me know what I am Getting. The local store has yet to sell out of the Original Brick. And from what I have seen, the sculpts and painting is so sub-par.
As much as I hate the Paper Minis, I will take those over these in a heartbeat.

Excellent Beginning Run.

84 Minis, out a minimum 76, and was able to get the full collection. I can safely say that I am over all pleased, though I was hoping for more humanoid opponents, but can't be to grumpy since I did get a full collection, with a few doubles of key members. Add to this the ones Irecieved from random Store Boughts as well as a minion order from this site and the six-man Evil Booster and you have a good assortment of minis to choose from.

The Exchange

I just opened 2 bricks and got all but 6 of the 40 minis to be had. There was a really good selection in the set.

I am looking forward to the new sets.

The Black Dragon mini is just beautiful!

no, it actually just confirms what was found in the other thread, a rare large is slightly harder to get than a rare Med (the only Medium above 12 is the vamp, and only large less than 20 is the ogre)

the succubus, and lich are also $20.

now that they are being sold as singles how does a case subscriber get their 20% off on them?

You should have gotten a discount code in your order is shipping email for 20% off of an encounters pack. These are different than single minis, and have yet to be released.

EDIT: And they've stated that this code should also be able to be found in your "My Subscriptions" area I believe...or maybe it was under the past orders.

I thought there were 2 separate discounts granted to case subscribers. One is a code for 20% off a single encounter pack, while the other benefit was 20% off single minis. Is this not true?

Encounter pack code is on My Subscription page but I think it is supposed to be automatic on the singles. I'll investigate.

Gah! You're right, my bad. I completely forgot that discount.

If it runs anything like the Pathfinder Advantage discount, it should automatically show up on orders for H&M singles.

Sorry for the misleading information folks.

Lantern Lodge

The subscriber discount shows up as soon as a Battles subscriber (who's first volume has already shipped) adds the mini to their cart.

Scarab Sages

I tried putting one in my cart, and only got my 15% Pathfinder Advantage discount.

Lantern Lodge

Gah! It *is* only taking 15% off... (math has never been one of my strong suits). I'll sic the tech team on this.

With the set still so new, how is it you are determining your singles prices?

It isn't easy to set prices for single miniatures. It is a bit of intuition, a bit looking at how similar D&D miniatures sold, a bit looking at other sellers and seeing what they are selling them for, and a bit economics (making sure we don't eat our shirts on the minis).

That said, the prices today won't be the prices tomorrow. They may go up. They may go down. We have always priced our singles based on supply and demand. If a mini is sitting there and nobody is buying it at a certain price, then we will lower the price until the minis start to sell. Conversely, if a mini seems to be flying out the door at a certain price, we will up the price until we get to a point where they sell steadily but not spectacularly. And these prices will change over time as supply and demand changes, so it is a never set target.

So that is about it. I hope this insight helps.

Finally got my case of Heroes and Monsters (and my Huge Black Dragon, Yes!!)

I did manage to get a complete set and none of my mini's were broken in the package (and only 2 had bent weapons, an Ogre and a goblin warrior, so it looks OK in any case). As for what I got, the list follows. I broke it down by brick and location just to see if there were any "sweet spots / dead slots" in the colation. Unfortunately, I found that there were.

Best part of it all though was that there was very little duplication which I have no use for. I could have uses a second Dire Rat / Gnome pack, and a Second frost giant, and I could have done without the Second Seelah, Lich, and Medusa, but these are a)minor, and b) my issue and not a problem with the colation of the set.

Swiftbrook calculated it at $648.65 here, however you can apparently do better via Ebay or some other sites if you have the time and inclination to shop around.

From this thread the average value of a case is $648.65.

If you just buy one of each mini from Paizo it would be $370.

The fact that all Large minis are rares makes for weird singles pricing. A Large Booster costs $5.99 and guarantees a rare. These rares sell for $12 or even $20. Somehow that doesn't really make sense to me.

You pay a premium for buying what you want, instead of the random chance of picking the right booster with the hope of getting what you want.

Good luck!

If the singles prices really are as Paizo proposes, I can simply sell the Large mini I didn't want at 100%+ markup ($12/$20 vs. $5.99) and just buy another Large booster. If necessary, rinse and repeat.

Kor - Orc Scrollkeeper, you have a great site showing off all the nice minis for the set, but I'm just looking for a text-only checklist. Guess I'll just print out the smaller one in the product description.

I made a few attempts at doing a checklist, but I'm not happy with the result after converted to PDF. You can take at it, but when I get a chance I will improve it.

Actually, that checklist looks just fine. I printed it out and will be using it when I receive my second case. Thanks.

I will post what minis I received and my impressions later on when I have more time. I will also post my minis in the “Pathfinder Battles Case Content Experience”, as well.

I have now added a new revised checklist for people that are looking for one.

However, I think it is pretty much confirmed now there are two levels of rare due to the difference in price ($12 compared to $20).

18 cases reported on this site, plus 30 reported by Auggie, plus the 6 cases coolstuffinc opened for singles - all have the 2:1 ratio. Yeah, it's pretty much confirmed WizKids decided to make the larges with 2 different rarities.

There could be other rarity issues that are more subtle than the obvious 2:1 with the larges. But with only 18 cases it's too early to tell.

I have no interest in doing that, I'm just pointing out the weird result of the decision to make all Large minis rares.

Starfinder Superscriber

Well a little late to the party, but I got my subscription stuff today:
complete set (but it wasn't until the last box that the giant spider appeared). So kudos to Paizo/Wizkids for staying true to the promise of a case will get you at least 1 of everything. Nothing broken, the only bends were minor things and a few loose minis, but nothing to complain about.

Zaister wrote:

They aren't all rares. 4 of the larges are rares with an average pull rate of 2 per case. The other 4 are super rares with a pull rate of 1 per case.

Grand Lodge

I stopped by my FLGS tonight and saw that the new minis were out. I have had hints that I can expect at least 1 or more Bricks for my birthday next month so I did not pre-order any myself.

I did pick up 1 medium and 1 large booster as an impulse buy at the register (couldn't help myself)and ended up with 2 rares (Seelah and the Manticore) so I have been smiling all night at that. 2 for 2!

I was tempted to buy a case or even subscribe but shipping costs to germany are simply prohibitive.

Now I hope to find these on my german dealer of choice or on ebay but the minis didn't seem to have reached germany so far.

Forgive me, but I don't understand why having all the large miniatures in a set being rare is a problem. I received my case yesterday. The miniatures are some of the best I have ever seen. I have been buying these things since Harbinger. FWIW

This method did help assure that a case would yield one of every miniature. Kudos to Wizkids and Paizo for that.

So if I went into my FLGS and they had just put out a new case of H&M boosters, and I tried my luck at pulling a Manticore the odds would be 1 in 12. But if I wanted an Ogre the odds would typically be 1 in 6 or there abouts. I have been reading where some cases yielded from 1 to 3 Ogres. With this in mind single pricing should be at a premium.

Yeah, singles prices are much more difficult to set with WizKids products than with WotC.

WotC seeded their cases to ensure an even distribution (equal number) of commons, uncommons, and rares - a huge help to collectors. WizKids' business practice is to keep the distributions random so customers end up with a range like 1-4 for commons and 1-3 for rares and have to trade or buy more product. And sometimes, minis of a certain rarity are more rare than others of that rarity.

Normal distribution for other lines would be 0-4 for commons, 0-3 for rares and a near certainty a case would not contain a full set. Fortunately for us, Paizo convinced WizKids to make an effort to ensure a case contains all 40 pieces. There's probably no chance they can convince WizKids to even out the distribution for future sets, but at least we don't get stuck with disastrous distribution like LotR which was released two months ago.

Lantern Lodge

So bought a large at the FLGS and got me a Chimera which looks great other than on the green head side, the paint apparently made a mistake and went down the front of his chest. I suppose paizo won't be taking returns are minis clearly painted wrong from the manufacturer or will they?

Well, I can’t speak for how unevenly distribution has been for past WizKids products as I never purchased them, although I have no doubts in what you are saying.

However, I do want to add that where it’s possible WotC miniature rarities were seeded more evenly, they still were far from giving you a good distribution for a set. When I was in my biggest spending days of DDM and would buy 3 cases when a new set was released, I can’t think of any time where I received a full set of minis. I always had to buy singles to finish out the set.

I think this is intentional - mine has it as well, you can also notice it with the black paint on the goat head side. I'm guessing that it is to represent how there wouldn't just be a line wwhere the scales end.... but a small area where the green scales would be under the fur, or where the goat and cat fur would be mixed.

Lantern Lodge

good point, everyone who looked at it at the store thought it was a mistake. But you are likely right. Even if intentional I feel they failed on paintjob. the mini looks great and then that green splotch on shoulder/chest.

I will likely repaint that area

$192.39 with out the dragon. The dragon is another $25.00 to put together a complete set of everything 1 of each. That includes shipping.

This is per a site I found.

SO....

I and my group ordered a case of Pathfinder Minis. Not only did we get one of everything (easily at that) we ended up with a comfortabel amount of desirable duplicates (town gaurd, wolves, goblins).

I just wanted to say... THIS IS A DAMNED FINE PRODUCT. These are probably the best plastics I've seen from wizkids. Clear, colorful, and exactly what they should look like. I'll be buying a case of EVERY set from here on out... highly impressed.

Just to be clear: that wasn't a promise, and isn't a guarantee. The product description states "Buyers who purchase factory-sealed cases should get a nearly complete set of figures. (As with any randomized product, collation is not guaranteed.)"

As we explained earlier in the thread, WizKids designed case distribution to maximize the likelihood of each case containing a complete set, but the reality is that a small number of cases will not contain complete sets.

So I unwrap my black dragon from the cord and as I try to get it out of the plastic it completely separates from it's base :(. It's ok, I'll just get some glue and reattach it at some point but people please be careful when opening that thing!!!!

I had a lizardfolk champion do that. Still, small price to pay for the nice rigid bases that don't warp... and as you say, easy to fix.

Here's some data points to go with that not-a-promise:

In the one case I have, I got a full set, at least two of every common, and there is only one uncommon that I don't have a duplicate of.

Out of 21 cases posted on the thread, only one has not included a full set; it had no zombies or dwarf fighters.

Given the current numbers, it seems like the odds of getting a full set are about the same as not rolling a natural 1. Depending on your luck, that could be good or bad...

I'll throw in and say this a great product as well. I got a full set in the first box but bought two just for good measure. I had one piece broken, nothing superglue won't fix.

Finally got the package today after a wild goose chase with the post office yesterday D:< But Happy that it got here :D

And to reassure me, the very first booster I opened had a SNAKE! YES!
Here's our breakdown:

#19 Half-Elf Cleric - 3
#20 Dwarf Fighter - 2
#21 Human Druid - 2
#22 Gnome Fighter - 2
#23 Dire Rat - 2

Rare
#24 Gargoyle - 1

Overall really happy with what we got, would have liked one more wolf and lizardfolk, but can't win 'em all :)
One of the Lizardfolk we got had a slightly detached arm, not necessarily broken, just maybe missed at the factory? Oh well, that's what superglue is for.

Anyone notice that the base for the dragon is slightly bigger than DDM huge minis. Same thing with the large minis, slightly bigger than DDM. It's not by a large amount but it is pretty noticeable. It's not a big deal, just wondering, was it intentional?

(Sorry for the empty comment, not intentional)

Just came back from the customs office and released my case (another 40 Euros...the damn customs fees are killing me). Shipped in the States last Thursday, arrived in Germany this Wednesday - Thursday I received my notification. I just love priority shipping. Can't belive I promised my girlfriend I'd open it with her together this evening, this means 9 more hours of nail-biting until I can hug my little new critters.

But I almost had to relinquish this pleasure as this time I didn't print out the invoice when going to the customs office as Paizo always puts one inside the box. Not this time. It almost made me go on a rampage when I didn't find one anywhere in the box. Good thing the customs officer let me use his PC to print it out directly from my Paizo account. Close one.

Liberty's Edge

Same here. I had to pay another 41,03€ for my package. So I payed over 280$ for my box in total.
Customs is hard!

The advantage is we pay in dollars. My FLGS in France charges the same price ... in euros. So all in all that's the same price.

Wow, I am glad I will have what I need from the two cases I purchased. I understand the secondary market is more expensive due to supply and demand, but I didn't think the rares would be selling for that much already.

With the set still so new, how is it you are determining your singles prices?

Short Answer....Supply and demand set around a "base price" the reseller which to make (margin) OR just copy some other sellers who you know sets prices accurately in the past.

Long answer
If your really interested in the mindset of a sellers and how they determine single prices there is a great post on plasticrypt.com (under PPM General category) about preorders and pricing in their forums.

With ordering from Paizo we do not ever say "tough luck" for broken or defective products. However, I don't as of yet have an answer to the broken/defective mini question.

Any words back yet? Though my situation is similar, my order wasn't from Paizo and there was no damage to the boxes or anything. Just a giant cave spider with a broken leg in it's protective plastic shell. :(

Lisa answered my question earlier on, but thank you, I'll take a look at plasticrypt.com

I'm sure that it's too soon to start talking about the next set but ...

I would love to see a Sahuagin or two in the next set! Maybe something like they did with the orcs and lizardfolk i.e. a standard type and an elite looking type.

Heck, I'd also love to see a really cool 4-armed Sahuagin king type!

Oh, and PLEASE make the Sahuagin(s) look cool - do NOT base them on the dopey and cartoony illustration in the Bestiary!!!! Good Lord! We get an awesome illo of the Lizardfolk by Ben Wooten and then that dopey illo for the Sahuagin ...

We do have news!

Support for the minis will be going through Wizkids. They have a support site for issues with miniatures here: http://wizkidsgames.com/support/
