For every light, there is a darkness...
For every hero, there is a villain...
For every adventurer, there is a monster...
Forgotten Foes is a 183-page sourcebook featuring both classic and all-new monsters for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. You'll find old favorites like the crypt thing and grick alongside newer Third Edition mainstays like the nightshades.
We've also combed through 3E-compatible monster books to bring you new versions of the nefarious inphidians and dangerous sin dragons—just to name a few!
Each monster comes fully detailed and illustrated along with its own handy lore table for those knowledgeable adventurers who think they might be able to get an advantage before battle.
Over 100 monsters are waiting to see action in your campaign. Just open the cover, add plot, and allow Forgotten Foes to take your game to the next level!
I recently realized I have now done a 114 reviews. So i started to wonder what my 100th review was of. Turns out this was lucky number 100. Just thought I would share, my apparent review obsession. :)

I haven't compared the monster lists, but how is this book holding up now that the Bestiary II is out? Is there a lot of overlap? Are many of the FF monsters made obsolete?

I ran a quick comparison between both using a copy of Bestiary 2 that a friend of mine had. Here's the list of monsters I found in Forgotten Foes that also appear in Bestiary 2:
Note that this shouldn't discourage anyone from buying Forgotten Foes; even when there's some overlap, the FF version of a monster is quite often distinct and interesting in its own right, and even with this list, there's still eighty-some monsters in FF that aren't in Bestiary 2.

Wow! Great list. Thanks. I guess the above is what I was really getting at. Good to know that all their hard work didn't just go out the window. This will now go on my "someday" list. Thanks again.
Thanks for the comparison list, Alzrius. Yes, I think even the duplicated monsters are relevant as no two designers are going to come up with the same take on a beast. Monster books are, IMO, as much about inspiration as stats.
A positively gushing review has popped up over RPGNow. Have a look!
And for those watching out for the print version, things are slowly progressing. We got a sample copy from Lulu to look over and, for some reason, they printed the cover in black and white! Hopefully, that will be resolved shortly and we can activate that avenue for sale. We're also looking to get FF available with OBS's POD option. Stay tuned!
I intended that for the Creepy Creatures bestiary...and it landed here. 'Think I'll just skulk back into a dark corner while I still have some sanity left.
Hey folks. I'm really sorry this isn't out in print yet. We have a few test copies here at Owlbear HQ but none of them are up to code. There's always some issue like too much bleed or incorrect alignment, etc. etc. We received a proof from OBS' print program but that too had issues we're trying to clear up. I'll tell you what, making a pdf is easy but printing that pdf can be damned frustrating. We'll also be getting the (correct) specs to Studio 2 Publishing so that you can pick up the book at your FLGS come fall.
The moment we have a copy that is worth selling, don't think that I won't be making the press release rounds about it. Thanks for your continued interest in picking up Forgotten Foes in print!
When we submitted the information to Studio 2 for printing and distribution it was for "August 2011" releases. Now, we did have a couple guffaws in getting the info up to their code so maybe that delayed us a month (don't hurt us, it's our first real print project!).
So, I would suspect you will see this available at any time!
Did something happen to the book's RPGNow storefront? I can't seem to find it there.
I found it in a bundle pack but when i tried to click the product it said that product was no longer available so I am guessing for what ever reason RPGNow has taken it down.
Print is definitely available but I'm unsure what's happening here at Paizo. Last I heard, they were having some technical issues bundling the pdf with the print orders. But I know for a fact people have seen them in stores so it's out there!

Welcome to the slow trickling hell that is the distribution chain :)
So I was looking back over my list of what monsters are in both Forgotten Foes and Paizo's Bestiary 2, and it occurred to me that there's another major book of older-edition monsters out now for Pathfinder - the Tome of Horrors Complete! Given that, I decided to put together this list of monsters that appear in both FF and ToHC:
1. Aerial Servant
2. Basilisk, Greater
3. Brownie
4. Bunyip
5. Chaosiic Lord of Entropy (Slaad Lord of Entropy in ToHC)
6. Chaosiic Lord of the Insane (Slaad Lord of the Insane in ToHC)
7. Cooshee
8. Crypt Thing
9. Daemon, Hydro-
10. Decapus
11. Flail Snail
12. Frog, Giant Dire
13. Gorgimera
14. Greymalkin (Graymalkin, Slinker and Graymalkin, Tether in ToHC)
15. Hippocampus
16. Inphidian, Cobra-Black
17. Inphidian, Common
18. Inphidian, Dancer Charmer (Inphidian, Dancer in ToHC)
19. Inphidian, Night Adder
20. Inphidian, Rattler
21. Kamadan
22. Lurker Above
23. Necrophidius
24. Pyrolisk
25. Shedu (Shedu and Shedu, Greater in ToHC)
26. Skeleton, Black
27. Skulk
28. Soul Eater
29. Tentamort
30. Trapper
31. Troll, Stone (Troll, Rock in ToHC)
32. Troll, Two-Headed
33. Tsathar
It should be very clear (I hope!) that this isn't an attempt to say that Forgotten Foes is somehow made obsolete by the ToHC - nothing could be further from the truth! Even taking into account that AND the Bestiary 2, there are still dozens of old monsters that aren't updated to Pathfinder anywhere else but here!
Only in Forgotten Foes will you find the ethereal filcher, the tojanida, the hieracosphinx, and many others that can't be found anywhere else! Forgotten Foes still has lots of monsters that players will remember, and fear, from yesteryear that are only between its covers.
Thanks for the comparisons, Alzrius! I also think FF brings a lot that was missing to the table. Heck, even the "repeat" monsters are bound to have some variation (and I think we're the only book with Lore tables too!).
I'm also curious when Paizo will be selling this puppy. It's absolutely available elsewhere as I've been sent pics of the book from buyers who found it at their FLGS.

Looks like it hasn't moved off of the preorder status on our distributor's side. It should hopefully update in the next couple of days and move off of preorder status.

I have received a print copy from paizo ages ago. (you purchased this product on Aug 2, 2011. I got my shipping email September 29th). I only mention it in case there's some glitch and there are some copies sitting unnoticed in the warehouse.
Of course, I'm used to not really understanding what's going on. So maybe you guys are all talking about a second printing or something? This conversation seems a bit odd to me.
Looks like some things were set up wonky on the product. It's been fixed and you should be able to order it without any problems (and without the preorder status on it).

A friend of mine had this sitting around on his computer and I gave it a look. I like it. I plan on purchasing it soon (Probably around the same time I prereg for Gen Con and re-up for Kobold Quarterly). I can't wait till I can order this and have it in my hands, the Possessor alone, in my opinion, is well worth the price of admission.
