Founded in 1966 by Nelson Gardner (also known as Captain Metropolis) as the successor to the Minutemen, the heroes formerly known as The Crimebusters were forced to disband in 1977 with the passage of the Keene Act. The group, which was weakened by the death of Captain Metropolis and the defection of Ozymandias to big business, was at loggerheads from the very beginning, and little is known of their joint crime-fighting activities. The members were last seen fighting together during the police strike of 1977 when The Comedian, Nite Owl, and Rorschach were active in quelling riots in New York and Dr. Manhattan and the Silk Spectre were performing similar peacekeeping activities in Washington D.C.
