Surprisingly Good

Pose is static, figure is small. Feet seem disproportionately small. And yet, I found myself very pleased. It is a simple and expressive miniature that I feel worth the price I paid. The coat comes with enough detail that it has painted up quite nicely.

A bit disappointed.

When I heard a plague doctor mini was coming I was super excited. When he showed up I have to admit I was rather disappointed. Not much detail. Static pose.
It looks a little better painted up and the idea is very cool. It's just a boring sculpt I guess.

This looks... lame.

Where's the mystery or menace?

In this image it looks like a sesame street puppet.

I don't know why, but I actually really want this model. It's....fascinating. I could use it in so many different games.

I think it might be the lack of a nice paint job. I love to see this guy painted up by someone with real talent.

Gotta agree - looks way too static and posed... needs to look more Machiavellian for my tastes [like in the pic Snorter linked]

Good stuff.

I'm playing CotCT at the moment and have just killed a few of these.

The one in the picture you linked looks much more of a threat than this guy.

So is this mini still due out December? The end of the month is approaching fast and this is holding up my order. Any news?

Does having a miniature of each character enhance the D&D experience? How big are the miniatures usually?

It depends on the group's style, really. Most miniatures are in the 25-28mm range with 'larges' being a little under twice that (somewhere around 40m)

usually I will try to get one mini of somethign they are fighting, or a picture... then use other minis as placeholders, passing around the mini of the actual creature/person

I do like the detail that he's holding up the urine specimen.

As for menace, he's a physician. This one seems to have a pretty good bedside manner.

Have any of you looked at the image enlarged? I have, and I would say he looks inhumanely freaky.

Contributor

Well, it's a kind of freaky mask, but the posture isn't menacing to my mind. He looks like he's telling someone what he saw in their urine specimen.

I'm not so sure that is a mask, as far as I can tell anyways. I think this is a creature, not a person wearing a mask. If it is a person wearing a mask I think I'll paint it to look like it is a creature.

Besides, I find things that look almost normal but aren't far more disturbing than something that is obviously a menace to you.

It is a Mask..

"Plague Doctors" used to wear to help protect them, it was a kind of very primitive Gas Mask, The beak used to hold things like dried flowers, herbs, spices, vinegar sponge, thinking those would protect them from disease.

I am well aware of what they are. I even made such a mask in my Ceramics class a year or two ago. Unfortunately ceramics made it too heavy to wear, despite making it as thin as I could, but it does make a wicked weapon.

What I was looking at in the picture was the neckline. It looks like they are wearing a hood, or it looks like I could make it so the thing looks like a creature, rather than someone wearing a hood.

So I look forward to holding this in hand and seeing what I can do.

Is there any reason why this has been listed now as 'unavailable' or is that just what happens prior to its release?

There's some bad data in our distributor's database that's messing us up here every couple of days. I've overridden their data for now, but it's probably that it will come down again, and I'll have to override it again. We'll get them to fix the data ASAP. Long term, we'll revise our system to take this particular type of bad data into account so it won't affect anything.

Well, I for one am glad to see Reaper decide to give a portrayal to my magnificent persona. I would have preferred my poking stick, but they wanted that beaker. However, what many of you don't know is how important it is to have urine samples. You can actually tell whether somebody has cacodaemonia through urine tests. Yes, this is true. The individual's used for this pose while the mini was designed, for example, did not. But he could have! And I would have been able to tell him. Well, um, if he had survived the bite wounds. *shakes head* What a shame.

Is this mini associated with a particular piece of crunch (archetype/prestige class?)

Not as such... though the Doctor's Mask (and the similar-looking Plaguebringer's Mask) are detailed in Pathfinder #8.

Updated with a shiny new image. :)
