Alexander Augustus Vilger, a horribly evil theurge, has met with death's sweet embrace. He left everything he owned to specific individuals whom's ancestry he had dealt with, for better or worse, and now they, as the rightful heirs, must journey to the Land in the Fog to claim what is theirs. Madmen, Cultists, and Drow, as well as all manner of mischief and disease await them? How will they cope? How will they begin their reign? Lastly, what secrets did such a titan of a man die with?

Short of blatant charm spells or mind control, I strongly do everything in my power to not make your characters do anything if they haven't acted. Hey guys, sorry for the delay. I've been in Ireland for a friends Wedding since Thursday with little to no Wifi, but I'm now back!

The frustrating thing about this is that I checked my phone just as I was about to take off. I then saw I had a pm, read it, went to reply and then boom, no internet.

@Sibeesha - It is perfectly fine, as it isn't as though you really slowed anything down. 2 days time waiting for a play by post is the equivalent of 2 minutes in an actual sitting game, so it's of little consequence.

@Charles Iridian Bloodgrave - I'm just glad everyone showed up.

Yea. I wasn't sure how to progress as I was a little late to the party, but shall I just fast-forward from my last post to where I am now, or did you want to post an intro and have me officially late in-game?

There's five of us playing now, so sorry if my delay complicated things and made you add another player.

Having no internet was a blessing and a curse. It meant I fell behind on here, but got to spend more time with good people I've not seen in two years.


Just assume he said 20%, and go through the signing process in a prior paragraph or something. We just started, so it's not going to be the most damning thing in the world. Besides, this is a beta test. If you all TPK, we just revive you prior... The same cannot be said if one of you die, however.

Also, ironically enough, the people I listed was missing someone, and I think I rectified that by private messaging all of you, so that was a mistake on my part, and had nothing to do with you, or anyone else's absense.

True... but when I did the DM part of games... it frustrated me sometimes when players dropped off the face of the earth at some times. As soon as this week is over (possibly until Wednesday of next) I will be spotty with school stuff... Teachers life.. FML


In hindsight, I believe I've not been entirely clear as to the... exact difficulty level of this campaign, and, in light of the very recent... easily dealt with encounter, I felt it necessary to explain exactly what you're up against.

This campaign is designed, for all intents and purposes, to be just a notch above Rise of the Runelords, Legacy of Fire, and Wrath of the Righteous in difficulty.

So, I bid that you should not, under any circumstances, assume that every encounter can just be "Talked" away such as this. Expect to have quite a bit of difficulty in the future, and prepare for that accordingly. You can, for example, get hit with Phantasmal Killer as early as level 2.

You have been warned.

Just a heads up. I will be leaving Thursday morning for a 4-day retreat at the beach that lasts til Sunday afternoon, then I have a Sunday night concert to attend. I will take my computer with me, but I may not be able to post much til after I get home. Please feel free to bot me if I delay the game at all.

On Monday, my dog goes into surgery and when he returns home on Tuesday, I will be on a full-time home care regimen with him. He needs to be walked with a belly band whenever he needs to relieve himself or get up to get a drink or eat, so it will be a busy time. (He's an almost 100 lb st. bernard puppy, so he can't be carried for these things).

I'll be able to post regularly again starting Monday, but perhaps not as frequently as usual for a while.... Anyway, sorry in advance for any lack of posting on my part. I will do the best I can.


That is all well and fine. Also, I have this thing called "RSS Feed Reader" that notifies me with an incredibly loud noise every time someone posts in this play by post. Hence why I can reply almost immediately, provided I'm actually at home to hear it. Otherwise, it just tells me how many messages I've missed. I have it tracking both the Gameplay and Discussion boards, and, until recently, the Recruitment board.

I highly reccomend it.

People are going to read the spoilers regardless of anything, so I merely request that as long as you do it the way you want, you should at least make very certain that others know that you're speaking in Draconic.

Absolutely no problem whatsoever, as everyone is currently experiencing some sort of delay. Play by posts are fortunate in the regard that, as long as everyone posts at least once a week, it never truly dies.

Mind you I sincerely hope that we continue at the pace we're going presently. The stars will align soon, what with everyone's delays finishing up, and I'm sure this game will stabilize.

At the very least, I know for certain that I won't be the source of another stagnated play by post.

Also, with that in mind, how are you all enjoying this game so far? I'm open to suggestions, and upon completion of the chapters you'll all be receiving links to the completed PDF for that chapter to review and enjoy, and perhaps pick apart. Then again, they might not be PDFs, as I work primarily with Libre Office, AKA, the Poor Man's Microsoft Word.

I am happy to be playing a Lizardfolk for once, I tend to grow bored of the core. Tends to happen when you play long enough. But I am only hoping playing the big scaly ranger guy is working out. He's not ignorant but being a swampie means he didn't have much of an education aside from hunting and surviving.

Attention! I apologize for my short absense, as my internet was shut off on a Friday, and I wasn't able to pay it in any way over the weekend as my local store was closed. My internet is also linked to my home phone, so I couldn't even call to do it, nor am I near a place with Wi-Fi!

Yes indeed, and to boot, I needed that same "Interwebs" to download Pyromancer's Dungeon Painter Studio. My primary concern is that suddenly disappearing for a few days might lead some of you to think I'd abandoned yet another play by post.

That said, this thing doesn't die until either we finish it, or I die, or all of you lose interest collectively.

Hopefully only one of those happens.

Nice roadmap. How much of this can we change via our actions?

Also, I'm becoming very happy with choosing a weak-as-a-noodle investigator as of now. This place is scary. Sure, I'm useless in combat until lvl3-4, but this place seems like it is going to require a ton of skill checks.

For me, I plan to take infusion discovery at lvl3 (so I can give my extracts to party members. Allows for things like tiny goblins and large lizardfolk). Dex to damage at lvl3, and studied strike at lvl4.

So for chapters 1-2, please bear with me guys as I am dead weight in combat. It'll get better...most likely.

no problems from me, I love investigators, but you are right, at low level they are weak in combat situations... but they kick ass with skills!
