KQ 8 is ready for download as a PDF, and available for preorder in print!

Qadira

woot, Now I need money to order it.

I took the recommendation of someone on the Paizo boards (where the big brains are, apparently) and created a printable battle mat for the Frostrift article.

I'm curious what folks think of this experiment.

I have it! And it is way cool, but I am biased because I wrote 'Traps of the Mind'.

Nice one DJ.

The battlemat is a really nice touch! It's already printed and taped together for my table.

I can't print out stuff. How much am I missing out on? (what is it? Like, the magazine comes with a disk or something?)

Do Kobolds eat dingo's I wonder?

The Frostrift PDF comes with something you can print out, a scaled-up table-ready map to put minis on.

The print magazine provides the map at a smaller scale.

And yes, kobolds eat dingos. Generally with a bit of spice, chipotle peppers or paprika. Nummy.

Somebody needs to inform Oz and John Kovalic that the circle is now complete.

This cover reminds me of the Dragon mags of old. Gorgeous stuff!

Took me this long to notice the clever dingo reference after the product title. Der.

A review for KQ 8.

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Awesome review! But doesn't Paizo have a review feature, too?

Would love to hear a Paizo boards take on it.

Naturally Herr Baur. I guess none of your loyalists/slaves/enthralled minions have figured that out. ^_^

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Nah, they know, they're just mocking they Paizonians by posting somewhere else.

And hey, I have minions? I need more!

Join the Kobold Army* and see the world from behind the chassis of a sleek wickerwork shield! All expenses paid!

* Not an actual army. All expenses includes sandals, daily gruel, and your choise of snazzy orange vest or padded armor. Spear not included.

I see where I can order a PDF or a print edition, but I'd like a subscription that includes both for one low price. Last time I ordered the print edition of KQ 7 (and love it), but didn't get a PDF so how do I get both?

I think you should visit the Kobold Quarterly website. And visit the store.

Cool Thanks! As long as you keep producing 3.5 and Paizo 3.75 content I will continue to subscribe to KQ. I can handle a little 4.0, but personally the less the better.

LOL, I will try to produce it but Wolfgang decides who gets published not me.

You probably directed your comment at Wolfgang, but I couldn't resist ;>

Darkjoy, I'm just happy with 3.5/Paizo 3.75 so the 4.0 stuff is not an interest to me. Now if you could print all 3 stat blocks I would not have a problem.
-
Honestly I'm happy with the 4.0 game license, if it weren't for that I don't think Paizo would have gone in the direction it has. Now the system I love has been much improved, the writing couldn't be better, and it's really the same game I've been playing for years.
-
Dungeon Magazine and Dragon Magazine may be gone for me, but KQ is looking like a good replacement. Thanks!

P.S. Tell Wolfgang I like that battle mat idea used in, "The Frostrift Oracle". I didn't buy it (just $1.00 for a 9 page battle mat), but if I ever run it I sure would. I hope you keep it in the archives.

uhm, just to make everything crystal clear:

Darkjoy = freelancer, decides nothing and hopes to get published.

Wolfgang = Editor, Publisher, Kobold in Chief, makes the decisions.

I trust that Wolfgang will eventually read your praise ;>

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Thanks, I'm glad you like the issue and the battle mat.

The 1 inch = 5 feet battlemat was one of those great suggestions that we just had to try out. There's a good chance we'll do more in future if they remain popular.

Darkjoy or I guess Maurice,

I just read your article and found it very interesting. I had seen several times where the illusion of a trap existed, but none really did. Putting DC's to determine that the trap dose not exist is a great idea! What is better is that it is not always the rogue that can determine a trap dose not exist. This gets the whole party involved in what is traditionally a one rogue show. I will definitely use that idea in the future.

Spoiler:
Perhaps even in the vivified labyrinth from, "Course of the Crimson Throne" that I'm running. A little more tension in that place can't hurt, can it?

** spoiler omitted **

I am glad you like it.

Can't really help you with what you wrote in the spoiler though, haven't read that particular adventure.

The print edition has arrived at the Paizo store.

I'll be using The Flagellant as soon as I can retool my stats.

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Yeah, there's a ton of campaign utility in that class. I think we'll see a lot of fallen paladins become flagellants, for instance.

If anyone would like to hear Wolfgang talk about the articles in issue 8 of KQ, along with Tim Connors and Paizo's own Eyebite, Josh Stevens, you can download Atomic Array. You can also find a link to the show on the front of KQ's current homepage. Why go the long way around? So you can read about Daigle's first monster contribution to Wolfgang's website... the Crag Drake.

A rave review of "Traps of the Mind".

Silver Crusade

I just got the issue yesterday. There's lots of good stuff: the 5th Dimension Horrors could make for an interesting "adventure path", the ink magic article and the flagellant article has given me ideas for my upcoming Age of Worms campaign set in the forgotten Realms, and even barroom brawl article make even come in handy.

Glances at number of posts at KQ 9 thread.

Only 34 comments?

This issue rocked, it deserves more than 34 comments, but a little controversy goes a long way it seems ;>

Qadira Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Well, maybe it hasn't got the comments that #9 does, but the issue is pretty close to sold out in print, and that counts for something.
