The Pathfinder Adventure Path is Paizo Publishing's monthly 96-page, perfect-bound, full-color softcover book printed on high-quality paper. Each volume is brought to you by the same staff which brought you Dragon and Dungeon magazines for over five years, and each volume contains an in-depth Adventure Path scenario, stats for about a half-dozen new monsters, and several support articles meant to give Game Masters additional material to expand their campaign. Because Pathfinder uses the Open Game License, it is 100% compatible with the world's most popular fantasy roleplaying game.

Paizo releases Adventure Paths in six-volume arcs, meaning each year of Pathfinder will include two complete Adventure Paths.

Ongoing subscriptions are fixed at a 30% discount off of each volume’s cover price, plus shipping. One ongoing subscription will get you every new volume of the Pathfinder Adventure Path as it's released, automatically continuing each month until you choose to cancel it. Instead of paying for your subscription all at once, we'll automatically charge your credit card each month before we ship a new volume. You only need to sign up once, and never need to worry about renewal notices or missed issues!

After we ship your subscriber copy, you'll be able to download a PDF of that volume—a $13.99 value—for FREE! (Note that you only get free PDFs for releases shipped as part of your subscription; you do not get free PDFs when purchasing older volumes that are not sent as subscriber copies.)

Pathfinder Adventure Path subscribers also receive the Pathfinder Advantage: 15% off of suggested retail price of all products on paizo.com, with the exception of non-Paizo downloadable files. (In the case of collectible products, the 15% discount will be taken off of Paizo's regular offering price.) This discount even applies to other Paizo subscriptions that aren't normally discounted! (If you already subscribe to these products, you need do nothing—appropriate discounts will be applied automatically.) With the Pathfinder Advantage, you can save on over 20,000 gaming products in the paizo.com store.

The Pathfinder Advantage does not stack with other subscription or sale discounts. This means that if a product is already on sale for 10% off of suggested retail, you'll get an extra 5% off. (Of course, if a product is already on sale for 50% off, you'll still get 50% off.) The Pathfinder Advantage discount will automatically be applied to all new paizo.com orders as long as you remain an active subscriber.

To qualify for the Pathfinder Advantage, the most recent volume of the Pathfinder Adventure Path must have been shipped to you (or, if you have multiple subscriptions with combined shipments, the most recent volume must be waiting to ship with your other subscription products). Any items ordered at the same time as your subscription, and any orders placed before that volume is shipped, do not qualify for the discount.

The Pathfinder Advantage is only available to customers with ongoing subscriptions. Just having transitioned issues of Dragon and Dungeon doesn't qualify—you must sign up for an ongoing Pathfinder Adventure Path subscription at paizo.com to get the Pathfinder Advantage. (Of course, you won't be charged for new volumes of the Pathfinder Adventure Path until your transition volumes run out.)

If you have other Paizo subscriptions, you can combine them with your monthly Pathfinder Adventure Path shipment to save money on shipping.

When you start an ongoing subscription, any existing preorders for products covered by your subscription are automatically cancelled (or have their quantity reduced by one if you've preordered more than one of an item).

Try this out.. this is a breakdown I wrote for a friend on another website:

CORE RULES: Are just that, core rules. They assume no campaign setting and are generic for either a homebrew setting, or a third party publisher.

ADVENTURE PATH: These are sets of (6) chapters that will take players from 1st to 14-17th level (on average). An entire campaign arc, which is set in their campaign world of Golarion. Other books (like the Chronicles and Companion books) can supplement these, but are not necessary). They're 96 pages, and broken down into sections. Obviously one part is the adventure, but the other parts are support articles (like monster Ecologies, Deity write-ups, and more varied topics- all topical to the campaign but can be used in any game), usually 6 new monsters with detailed write-ups, and a small chapter of ongoing fiction. The intent is that you have something good to read and use whether you're actively running the campaign that moment or not.

COMPANION BOOKS: Small 32 page books that are 100% player friendly. They are set in the campaign setting of Golarion. They are broken down into small chapters, and are usually centered around a specific nation or region, or race. They're also sometimes the 'Player's Guide' to the latest Adventure Path coming out (see above). Everything inside is safe for players. Content is usally about a race, or a culture.. a little history ffrom a player's perspective, usually some new magic items that are either racial or cultural. Background traits. Everything a player needs to flesh out a character from a specific part of the campaign setting.

CHRONICLES: These vary a lot, but again, they're all covering topics within the campaign setting (but some are easily taken into other games). They might be a comrehensive look at a particular region, or city state. Some of them have been an in-depth examination of classic monsters, and how they fit in the campaign setting. The ration between player friendly and GM-only content is mixed. Usually they try to confine all the big secrets to one specific chapter, but it varies.

MODULES: Just like they sound.. these are 32 page adventures, covering a different range of levels and types (urban, dungeon, wilderness, etc..). They are set in the campaign setting too, but they're also designed to be easily transportable to any campaign setting or world.

Some of these descriptions are a little generalized, just so that I wasn't writing a much longer post.

Okay, so I don't need all umpty-ump Adventure Paths to run a campaign, just the six chapters of one Adventure Path... good to know.

I guess my main question is, as a DM, if I wanted to run a Pathfinder game in the official campaign, what books would be recommended? Right now I don't know enough about... well, much of anything... though I've been downloading what free things I can.

I heard that the Council of Thieves adventure path is the first one to use the official Pathfinder Rules, so maybe I can start with just the Core Rules, and the Council of Thieves adventure path. Is there anything else that someone would like to recommend?

For information on the World of Golarion, if you want it, there are two main books. The Gazeeteer and the Campaign Setting. The Gaz is somewhat a shorter version of the CS, but both have good information depending on how much detail you want to know. If you have a FLGS, I'd recommend popping in and eyeballing the various Pathfinder books for an idea of what you like.

Now, if you're like me and you want as much information on the world as you can get your hands one (LOL!), there are a number of great books to consider. Here are the first three I would almost say are a must have:

Chronicles: Gods and Magic -- expanded details on each of the major 20 gods, information on many minor deities, and special spells and items, etc.

Chronicles: The Great Beyond -- the cosmology of the Golarion universe. Some folks have compared it very favorably to Planescape.

Companion: Elves -- more information for the player of elves.

Beyond that, it really depends on how much info you want. I currently own all the Chronicles, Companions, APs, and several modules. Each of them adds a bit more to the overall feel and knowledge of the world, with great information articles in the back of each AP (including 6+ page write ups on eight of the twenty major gods so far!)

Hope that helps, and welcome to the fun!

The Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook and Bestiary plus the Council of Thieves AP will give you everything you need to start your Council of Thieves campaign. But if you do want more, as mentioned above, either the Gazetteer or the full Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting book should be high on the list of things to look at for anyone interested in the campaign setting. And for Council of Thieves in particular, you and your players should find that Pathfinder Companion: Cheliax will provide some additional interesting background and options for them.

Thanks, everyone!

I just wanted you all to know that I purchased the Campaign Setting, Gods and Magic, the planes book, the Harrow cards (they were on sale and I'm a tarot enthusiast), and the Campaign Notebook. (Also on sale). I'll probably use the campaign notebook for my homebrew.

I'm off to print character sheets from the Beta pdf! I may be acting a bit premature here, since the official PFRPG is coming out soon enough, but I'm just a little excited.... (still).

I think you'll find that the longer you're here, the more enthusiastic and excited you'll become. Paizo's like a drug that won't leave you alone, mindless, and destitute (hopefully). Welcome to the club!

You made some good choices! Everything you got will set you up very nicely. Specifically those books, combined with an Adventure Path subscription at the start of the latest arc, are pretty much all you need. Everything else is sweet, but those are among the essentials.

Glad we could all help! Welcome!

Also Council of Thieves is the first AP to use the new rules, so it's a good place to start!

stardust wrote:

Man, I've been here for awhile, but frankly, me too! The planes book and gods and magic are great, but the campaign setting is just fantastic, I often bring it with me on my travels and I've reread it a few times, its just amazing quality.

Andoran

They arrived today!!! Yay!

I had to open the Harrow deck first, of course... interesting. Then on to the campaign workbook. Not what I was expecting, but it will work... lol. :)

I kept my treasures for last: the Campaign Setting. I opened it and looked for a map of the world.... didn't find one on the inside cover, but there was one on the back inside cover. I opened it.... and I've been drooling over it (though not enough to stain the precious document) for the past twenty or thirty minutes now. Off to read....!

Okay... another quick question for those who helped me before. Is there a book (or adventure path) that goes into some detail about the other planets of the solar system? I thought there was something like that mentioned.

Thanks again.

Write-up on Golarion's system is in Children of the Void, 2nd installment of Second Darkness.

A bargain question here:

When would I have to sign a Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscription in order to receive the discout on the upcoming Pathfinder Core Rulebook?

As far as I understand the above information, the first module (either current one or next one) would have to be shipped - that would imply I could sign anywhere to beginning of August - is that right?

Thanks.

The next Adventure Path item to ship before the release of the Core Rule Book is the last volume of Legacy of Fire, which will ship in the end of July. So you have to subscribe to that volume (remember, when you subscribe, you can choose to begin your subscription with the current or next volume of that subscription). The current volume of the LoF is the Impossible Eye. So you can now subscribe with the option to begin the subscription with the next book.

At the risk of adding to the confusion, keep in mind that you can subscribe to the RPG and start with the Core Rulebook right up until the Bestiary is released, which will probably be very late September. So as long as you subscribe to the AP a few days before that, and choose to start with the current volume, the Pathfinder Advantage will apply. In short, if you're less concerned about getting your Core Rulebook right when it's released, you can hold off a week or two until after AP #24 ships, and start your Pathfinder AP subscription with #25—the first part of Council of Thieves; then just wait until it ships in Early August to subscribe to the RPG.

Since I have now subscribed I have a question. It is a given that a PDF of the print product is included but will that PDF automatically show up in "My Downloads" or will I have to go in and treat it as a purchase? Thank you!

Blasted Typo Gremlins! Let me try that again, "The PDF is in My Downlaods, now. I am only through the first 10 percent and I am already impressed!". There that's better!

I am going to give the Subscription a shot as well. I will be honest I am somewhat nervous as well. When S&H goes through I feel as if I have just gone back to its normal price, but I hope that the other benefits (i.e.- free pdf downloads of subscribed adventures and other discounts make up for that)

I don't believe you can, but you can start with the previous issues which would be the first of the CoT series. Also if you did that your 15% discount would apply to back issues as you buy them.

Ok, FLGS had the first in the AP, so I decided to buy it and then subscribe. So far, I'm enjoying the quality and of course I have the PFRPG Core as well.

How do the Subscriptions work outside the US? I live in Canada and I usually get my books through Amazon.ca which often is delayed by a month. I had a bad experience ordering a book from the US a few years ago due to customs. I bought a $10 that ended up costing me $50 due to exchange, taxes, and a $30 Customs fee for them to open the box and see that it was really a book.

Anyone from Canada subscribe and if so what are your experiences?

When you subscribe, you should be able to select the current volume or the next volume. The current volume is Council of Thieves #2. The first volume shipped in August. You may have to subscribe starting with #2 then order volume #1 separately. Of course, I don't speak for Paizo.

Hmm cover price -30% that seem pretty good for US people but for EU folk i am not so sure.

My locate game store sells the product to 160Dkkr which is just above USD30 which of course compared to your price is more than doubt (being sold at Paizo for USD 14) however then comes taxes and shipping. Taxes are 25% (for Denmark) and shipment are normally translate into another 100Dkkr (USD 19)

so the calculation would mean one have to pay 14+25%+19 = USD36.5 for the subscription or one could say to avoid going to the locale game store and pick it up one have to pay (for my case at least) an additional USD 5.

All this sums up to people probably wont subscription too much from EU. So if you think about getting a marked over here then maybe something should be considered.

Just a comment (I know it aint all good but that the facts at least - however only reason this is an issue is because you make superb products which I personally hoped would be more "accessable" in EU)

That's bad. For me (to Finland) AP subscription would be $20.53 total ($12.99 for subscription and $6.54 for S&H) and there is no extra taxes nor customs. My FLGS sells APs €20 (~$30) each so from Paizo I get quite a good deal (plus we get PDF which to us is at least as important as the book itself as we are using VTT a lot). Denmark must penalize people using postal services a lot :(

Many of our overseas subscribers have multiple subscriptions; because we can combine multiple subscriptions into one shipment, and it doesn't cost that much more to ship extra items, the per-item shipping cost comes down and helps it all make more sense, even if you have killer import taxes.

Also, the Pathfinder Advantage gives you a discount on almost everything in the store, and you can choose to ship most other items along with your subscription stuff for even more savings.

I live in Canada and shipping here costs the same. All totaled it would be about $23 Canadian to subscribe when I can buy at the local gaming store for $20 or off Amazon.ca for $16. Still I'm considering subscribing because I get the PDF as well and other discounts I think. Still checking out what other discounts you can get with AP subscription.

I am going to be starting The Council of Thieves adventure path as soon as the Christmas break is over. I tried printing the 'road ambush site' and the 'bridge ambush site' off, however by the time I print on 11 x 17 paper and then enlarge to 1" x 1" squares, battle map format, it is starting to look not so good. Is there a proper printable version of these maps available, as well as a city map that is not all marked with notations or numbers that can be displayed for the players?

I have a question about the condition in which the issues will arrive in, I'm very particular about the product being mint, just a querk of mine. How do you ship the issues? Padded envelope with somthing stuffed in there to prevent it from bending, or a box to prevent bending or scratching?

It depends on what's shipping with it, and what shipping method you use.

If you choose standard shipping, and it's going by itself or with other slim volumes, we pack it in a very sturdy cardboard envelope.

If it's shipping via UPS, or if there are more than about a half-inch worth of books, we put it in a box.

I used the river crossing flip mat. It's not exactly the same but close enough and worked well.

I subscribe to enough that it always comes in a box. Sometimes the box has a few dings, but the products inside are always (without fail) in perfect condition. Hardcover books, adventure paths, card decks, flip mats; you name it, I've received it, and always in perfect condition.

Your experience may vary, but mine has always been great.

My question is if I get these subscriptions, but considering I own several products already, how do I avoid buying the same thing again?
I own the Core book, Bestiary, Classic Monsters Revisited, Legacy of Fire player's Guide, the Legacy of Fire modules 1-4, Critical Hit deck, Critical Fumble deck, and Legacy of Fire items deck.

So I got suckered into subscribing....they sent me an issue last September, never heard from them in October, got my November as scheduled.....so far,so...well ok, I guess. Then December rolls around. They charge me for for the newest issue and say its shipped off on Dec 16th, right? Now here it is January 18th and I still haven't received it, I've called three times and they won't answer and won't return my call. I just want my money back or my issue....yesterday. This is absolutely ridiculous.

It looks like the issue for December shipped on 12/21/09 with 4-8 business days in transit.

As I stated in the email I sent 01/06/10 in response to your phone message, we typically wait a bit longer after the estimated arrival date to let it catch up from any delays. At this time, I've set up a replacement to ship with #29 (should be going out quite soon) as it does seem to be taking this package much longer than it should, even taking the holidays into account. If the original package for #28 does still show up, please let us know so we can cancel the replacement.

While we try to be available from 10am-5pm PST Monday-Friday, there are only two of us, and it is sometimes inevitable that we miss calls.

I've sent you an email to help follow up on this.

EDIT: You may want to check the settings on your email to make sure emails from paizo are not being blocked.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

thanks,
sara marie

My question is if I get these subscriptions, but considering I own several products already, how do I avoid buying the same thing again?

I own the Core book, Bestiary, Classic Monsters Revisited, Legacy of Fire player's Guide, the Legacy of Fire modules 1-4, Critical Hit deck, Critical Fumble deck, and Legacy of Fire items deck.

Each subscription starts with the current issue that is out or the next one to ship. So when you subscribe just make sure you pick the one you want to start with you won't get a second copy of something.

I notice it says you get free PDFs...is that just for the issues you have received or would you have access to previous PDFs? I'm interested in running some of these APs that are already out, but investing $120 just to get them is a bit steep.
