Hero Lab (Win/Mac CD-ROM)
For years, RPG players have settled for software tools that simply fall short of what they need. Hero Lab has finally arrived, providing an easy-to-use, intuitive interface atop a versatile engine complete with all the core functionality players have clamored for. Create characters, experiment with all the choices available under the selected rules, and orchestrate your character's evolution. Hero Lab reduces bookkeeping to just a few clicks of the mouse. It automatically tracks changes and modifiers for every stat, ability, item, spell, and option. At the same time, the automated validation rules confirm that all prerequisites, minimums, and other rules requirements are valid. With the ability to support virtually any game system and genre, Hero Lab is a revolutionary addition to any RPG player's library!
Note: The media included with this purchase may be Windows-only, but the activation code from this package may be used with latest version of the software for Windows *or* Mac OS, both of which may be downloaded from the publisher's site here. (The free Hero Lab version for the Pathfinder RPG Beginner Box can also be found on the same download page.)

I just purchased PATHFINDER RPG core rules for my Hero Lab which I've owned for like... 4 or 5 years! ITS AMAZING. The character sheet comes out crisp, clean, detailed, accurate, amazing. The ease of importing a character graphic, frankly, was icing on the cake. I made an 11th level Bard for a game, and I needed to complete it quickly. I went to online character generators, then i tried PCGen, then I looked at some old OGL generators... then I seared for inconics on the Paizo site... then I decided to just buy the Pathfinder pack for Hero Lab. I AM SOOOOO VERY PLEASED. For anyone, like me, who gets easily frustrated when system errors get fired and the generator gets locked up or crashes - - -Hero Lab is the answer. I found it to be designed very well, and the way the tabs simply light up in red to say you've got work to do still in those areas is very nicely handled. Hero Lab let me complete the character sheet in any order I wanted, without making me feel dumb, or locking up with MUST-DO edits. Basically, just like when I make my own characters for tabletop on paper, I don't necessarily go top to bottom, I jump around alot and work the whole canvass. Hero Lab let me do this without melting down. Then, once the data was input, all the math was reconciled very well, without any in-your-face edits or problems. The ability to print just the standard character or additional journals and export to PDF etc. are all great features. No wonder they just won an award! Great job!!! -Pax
Hi Guys, Loving Herolab, but I have a question, I have purchased the Ultimate magic license have renewed it, and can see several different archetypes for sorcerers but not the sage sorcerer. Has it not been included??? or am I missing something? The only archetypes available for me are:
Anyone have any information that would explain this??? I wanted to stat up a sage sorcerer for this weekend. Thanks Blackcat.

Has it not been included??? or am I missing something? Select Sorcerer as a class Select the Wildbooded Archetype on the Classes Panel Go to the Sorcerer Panel and select Sage from the Mutated Bloodlines. I have been using it for a while. Still a bummer that it doesn't do Gestalt or a progression report. Mind you the Spell lists are now pretty good. It gets better with every new release.

I just purchased HeroLab with several data packs for Pathfinder, and I am really enjoying it. I was a HeroForge user in 3.5, and just could not find the same level of detail and accuracy in an excel-based spreadsheet for Pathfinder. HeroLab has solved that problem, and the utility of the program just cannot be emphasized enough. I run two campaigns, and now manage every player’s character through the software. Before each game, I simply print out an updated version of the character, and hand them out at game time. Encumbrance is tracked well, which eliminates a tedious but important aspect of the game. I also really enjoy the organic approach the software takes toward character creation. I am not forced to create by a pre-determined order; I can freely skip back and forth through various aspects of the character without breaking the software, or becoming hopelessly lost.
I highly recommend this product.
You won't find either of them on the In Play tab because they don't need to be there. Guidance is a one-time effect. Just mentally add +1 to the die roll. Bane is too situational to be on the In Play tab. If you are fighting a creature that is subject to Bane, just add +2 more to hit and damage and roll 2d6 more damage.

Thank you for the input! But Bane does not do what you say, Bane is basically a reverse bless spell, and it does not influence damage. Since it lasts 1 min./level I think it should be on the In Play tab. I tried to post this on lone wolf forum, but got no answer. Anybody willing to help out? Thanks!

Thank you very much for reporting it. I apologize for not specifically responding to your post on our forums. The time required to complete the Bestiary 3 last month put us way behind where we want to be on dealing with our bug reports (yours ended up as post #229 in the bug reports thread), so when I saw that the issue you had posted was a bug we needed to deal with, I only took the time to move the post into the bug reports thread that's stickied there so it wouldn't get lost among the many threads on our forum, but I should have also responded to thank you for reporting it and say it's been added to the to-do list.
I am currently looking into buying Herolab and read through this thread. I was lookin for the answer to the following question: will the extra PF data sets be available through Paizo. I like to have my downloads all in the same place.

I like to have my downloads all in the same place. Hero Lab is developed under license from Paizo, but it is otherwise completely separate from Paizo. Add-ons can only be purchased directly from Lone Wolf Development through their secure website. Once purchased, all add-ons are automatically downloaded and integrated directly through the product. After you download and install Hero Lab, you'll never need to leave the product to obtain updates to either the product itself or add-ons. And you'll be automatically notified when new updates are available through the product. So there is no need to manually retrieve add-ons or updates from a website, unlike the various PDFs you've purchased from Paizo. Hope this answers your question adequately....
I'm pretty anal about parsing entire threads here on the Paizo messageboards before I chime in, but tl;dr this one. I've been considering a purchase of HeroLab for a good long time, and I see it for sale here at Paizo. The other two Lone Wolf Development software tools offered for sale here are clearly labeled "CD-ROM;" this product isn't. I've downloaded and installed the program from here, and it's running fine on my iMac running OS 10.7.4 (yay! the Mac OS version's what I've been waiting for). So I've two questions,
I'd love to save the 3 USD I'd score purchasing HeroLab here at Paizo versus Lone Wolf Development's website. I've waited this long, if it's a CD I can just get it tossed into my side-cart for next month's subscription. On the other hand, if it's just a license, I'd be in business with it sooner. On someone else's hand, I'm suffering a bit of sticker-shock looking at the prices for some of the Pathfinder "packages" I think I want. On someone else's other hand, I'm just glad this product's finally available for my preferred OS. Thanks for your time! -- Andy
The version of HeroLab available here is the CD version only. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy on hand to check for sure at the moment, but from reading the Lone Wolf site, it appears to me that the CD version is Windows-only, as it says in the system requirements above. Thanks,
We only released the Mac version a couple weeks ago. As with most CD-based products, they are produced in large batches to keep the costs under control. Consequently, the CD version available anywhere only contains the Windows version of the software and will be updated when we do the next production run in the near future. However, the license number included in the package can be used equally with the Windows OR Mac versions of the software. So if you purchase the CD from Paizo and then download the Mac version from our website, you'll be able to activate your license on the Mac and save yourself a few bucks. :) Hope this helps...
Shalafi2412 wrote: Is there a way to convert 3.5 PRCS into Herolab in the Pathfinder system? The PF version of Hero Lab only has PF PRCS available for selection. However, Hero Lab does have an editor that allows you to add stuff: weapons, spells, feats, etc. It will also allow you to build a new class/prestige class. So, while it won't be able to directly convert a 3.5 PRCS for you, you can use the editor to build it as a new class and then apply it to your character.
Shalafi2412 wrote: Is there a way to convert 3.5 PRCS into Herolab in the Pathfinder system? In addition to what HangarFlying outlined, I have seen some discussion of this on our support forums, so there may already be existing data files available with a variety of converted classes. It's definitely worth a look in case someone has already done the work. :)

Cosmo, thanks for your prompt reply. lonewolf-rob, Now that my scheme to save three bucks has been blown, thank you for explaining what's up. : ) Paizo's one of my preferred vendors, and if I could have purchased a license here (sans physical media), I'd have done so. And as I really don't need another CD laying around (Yeah, that's it! It's not that I need to play with HeroLab right now, it's that I don't want to mess up the environment with a compact disc that'll end up in a landfill in 100 years!), I think I'll just head over to ya'll's website now and purchase a license. Thanks for your time, and your efforts on HeroLab. I'm jazzed it's finally available for my OS of choice. -- Andy
Not that I want to steal sales from Paizo, I happily have a monthly tithe setup, but in this day and age of digital delivery, you may spend $3 more over at Lone Wolf, but your not increasing your shipping costs here, nor are you incurring the environmental cost of a) manufacturing b) delivery. So go go digital delivery.
I have one issue with Herolab. (one significant issue that is) and I'm still buying data sets for it. And that's with the default output sheets. Ability descriptions are clipped severely, I don't know whether that's on purpose to cut down on character page count, but it's clear that from the alternate output sheets that others have put out that the clipping does not need to occur. I really wish you folks would look at PCGen's character output sheets, with all the other things that you do better than the freeware app, this is one area where they still leave you in the dust. While the alternate output styles are available, the default output is the only one that supports direct to PDF export, and the only one that does not require a web browser to view. Herolab is the bench mark for system support, you've got the high mark on that, but given that you are a commercial product, I think that you have the ability to do better in output..
LazarX wrote:
Have you tried the Customized Sheets? They are a lot better,in fact all I use now are the cutomized ones. There are 2 you can download from the update list.
So I purchased Hero Lab today after many years of balywhooing and complaining about lack of mac. So there, I said make it for Mac and I will buy it, and you did, so I'm shutting up and buying it :P It looks good on first blush, and to the complaint of the data sets, it "appears" that there are a number of community created data sets that are the same as the for $ ones. The just require some effort to add additional update sites (which isn't hard.)
LazarX wrote:
+1. Great product in all areas except output. And yes, I've tried the customized sheets. They're better than the default, but this is still an area that could use improvement. (For example, it would be nice to have a customized sheet with user-set preferences that get saved and remembered from one output to the next. And it would be very nice not to have to go through the web browser step.)
Hi, guys. I have several questions: 1) Hero Lab purchase provides license for installation on two PCs. Do they need to be constantly on-line? Can I install Hero Lab on my laptop and take it on a trip with me, to some place I don't have internet access? (This is a big deal for me.) 2) What happens in the case of system crash? I tend to format my hard drives once per year. So, will I have any problems when I do that and then try to install Hero Lab again?
To answer your first question, I've used Hero Lab on offline machines. The only issue when running Hero Lab on a machine that doesn't have access to the internet is, as I understand it, that you won't be able to update your software.
nightflier wrote:
1) No, they only have to be online to register them when they are first installed, and of course if you want to download any updates. But if you're offline for a few days on a trip, it will work just fine. 2) The licensing system will allow you to install again on a new system after a certain amount of time. I don't know what that is off the top of my head, but I'm pretty certain it's less than a year. Worst case, you can email their customer support and they can unlock the license for you if necessary.
I'd recommend the following for players: Advanced Player's Guide
