WARNING:

I have already began private IM recruiting on this, so slots are limited!

Introduction:

The Mundus Saga
The Development Project

Congratulations!

Your group has been designated as the Crisis Team, the A-Team, the World Heroes of Mundus. When there are fires going on in the world The Development Project is who is called to solve it.

Your first assignment from The Council is to cease the actions of a rogue group of extremists named “Mortiferis”. They have began to take massive portions of land from Dominorum (ruling lands of The Council) in Mundus, along with slaves, theft, and acts of war.

Can you stop Mortiferis and restore Dominorum to its original state?

The Crisis Team is its small unit all in one group, and has risked its pick on five new adventurers to the field to be the most diversified group ever picked by the Council to date.

Your journey will be in real time, real distances based on certain parts of the world, and full of more than just the Mortiferis to trouble your group, along with the pleasures of Mundus as well. Games, gambling, drinking, women, men, and more.

Character Build Information:

25 Point Buy (Anything goes allowed on the d20 mod)
All Races
No Gestalt
Unchained Allowed
Hero Points Awarded
No 3rd Party Classes or Psionics
Level 1 through to Level 5 for part 1
2 Character Traits from any trait list (MUST FIT CHARACTER BACKGROUND)

Background Expectations:

Detailed. This does not have to be long, but it should describe why the Council, essentially the greatest empire in the history of Mundus, would risk a chance on you to solve their, and multiple other towns/ cities problems along the way.

You can be a loner, have a family and kids, or somewhere in between. Perhaps a Councilman's Investigator randomly picked you up from your work place, or you applied for one of their other jobs and got this one instead.

Keep in mind that despite letting a vast variety of builds in, it is essentially the Feudalism Era - just post Renaissance all across Mundus, with the added flavor of the power of Pathfinder's creatures and magic.

Bonus for Character Development:

In addition to your two traits (that I will review) I am giving 5 skill points at first level to go towards a performance/ profession/ craft job and only of those three.

1 exception- a Bard cannot apply these 5 points to their performance skill

This sounds awesome! What does the time frame on entries look like? I'll get to work right away, but I don't know exactly when it'll be done. A deadline helps me budget my time, as I can go a bit overboard with my character creation process if left up to my own devices.

Edit: Does 'any race' include those not found in the featured, core, or uncommon sections of the ARG, such as Monkey-Goblins or Wyvarans? Not saying that I'd want to make a monkey goblin for a campaign like this, but I do like to know what my options are.

I am interested. Don't have a character concept quite yet, but this sounds like a game I would enjoy.

I would probably play either a dwarven front-liner, or a rogue from one of a few different races. I'll work up a character and post again here. And a deadline for submission, along with a clarification on "all races" would be appreciated by me as well.

I'm really excited for the idea. I'm just confused" the setting. Is it still medieval sword and sorcery or are we bumping the age up a bit?

@Sunstone Pheonix & Moonjuice7

Deadline I would like is by this coming Monday. On my end I've got about the next three months or so of gameplay sketched out and ready to roll- been working on this one for a while actually xD

@Moonjuice7

Giants, Ogres, "design your own race", an elemental, an outsider, anything that isn't evil alignment (because then obviously you wouldn't be a world hero)

The Council controls almost 1/4 of the world of Mundus- my own little Pathfinder sandbox.

Regular races are absolutely fine, but if you have something creative you want to put in instead, have no fear- let's roll with it!

Just, you know, no talking bears xD

@Bodzilla

Think of a medium between Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Riddick. There are guns etc. but no space ships-

Horses as transport, but also of course you have access to other mounts like giant eagles etc.

But it isn't like you'll be going from talking to a courier to hopping into a 747 at the airport.

I'm thinking of creating a syrinx character from the Inner Sea Bestiary, one of these guys.

Syrinx are a race of owl-like humanoids that view themselves as above all other races, especially those not capable of flight, and seek to one day enslave them all. I was thinking of creating a syrinx that had been indoctrinated into this method of thinking as all syrinx have been for generations. She was a rogue in training who had been trying to prove herself as a valued member of syrinx society by completing her final test: enslaving a member of another race and bringing it to the high priest of the syrinx. Unfortunately for her, the mission failed miserably, and she was captured by the human that she'd been trying to abduct. (The man turned out to be an experienced town guard who had been alone on a hunting trip, and was attacked as he was returning to the city.)

While she was awaiting execution in the human city, her abductee revealed that she could fight extraordinarily well. After a person who could speak Auran was summoned to communicate with the syrinx, the authorities also discovered that she was a knowledgable and skilled hunter herself.

They then proposed a deal: If the syrinx would comply with all orders given to her and become a valuable member of The Development Project, her life would be spared. If she turned against the cause, she would be killed. While this meant utter servitude to a "lesser race," a concept that would chill any syrinx to their core, death was a much less desirable prospect. Within a day of the proposal, the syrinx accepted the deal, and was off to fight the good fight, no matter how much that fight went against her ideals.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------

How does this fit in with your idea of this campaign? Would you like me to change anything about it?

Also, Syrinx, as repulsed by lesser races as they are, can't learn Common as a spoken language. Should we house rule this so that she can speak Common, or incorporate the racial barrier into the adventure? I can see the potential for some really unique roleplaying experiences if this character has to speak through other members of the party, being unable to communicate with the general public. I'm planning to give her a high intelligence score and put a rank in linguistics to maximize her languages spoken, which would include Syrinx, Strix, Auran, Celestial, and Infernal.

Syrinx also have the racial ability to speak with birds and bird like magical beasts, so that is one other form of communication right there.

Help me, I'm already getting way too emotionally attached to this soft-spoken owl-human-thing.

EDIT: While syrinx are typically lawful evil, I can totally see some awesome character development happening here where this character could begin to discover that her prejudices were wrong. As she's traveling with the party and learning about the kindness, passion, and joy that the people of this world can bring to one another, her alignment can shift into lawful neutral and maybe, maybe, lawful good territory if she finds it in her to truly embrace and care for non-syrinx.

@Sunstone

I love it 100%. Keep the language barrier- makes you like the Qunari from Dragon Age, only a little bit more integrated into your own culture than them.

As long as that character won't actually end up stabbing an elf or dwarf in their sleep (as they assumedly had to pass a psych test to work on the project) that background is perfection.

Silver Crusade

Hi there well, I have played some walky PCs and I have this mad idea for a Reepicheep Like PC From The Chronicles of Narnia.

Well this is rounding out wonderfully!!!!

Jonny- you will love your guys' first mission!

So far we have a Syrinx and an Atomie, keep them coming guys!

I will say I have room for four more!

Medieval A Team *should* be pretty diverse after all <3

Alright then. Since SunstonePhoenix is looking at playing a rogue, I will go ahead with my dwarven front-liner.

He is a dwarven crossblooded bloodrager with the adopted trait, meaning he was raised by elves. They were careful to teach him about not only their culture, but his own (albeit from a slightly skewed perspective.) He is a scary front line fighter like any other barbarian, but with a few spells to boost his own efficacy. When he fights, he charges into the middle of the action, and cleaves his foes in two. He is determined, thanks in part to his mixed heritage, to form/maintain peace between the civilized races. That intense determination, as well as some strings pulled by his adopted elven tribe, led to his consideration for the task force. His own prowess led to his eventual selection and placement on the team. He is determined to do right by his people, though he often tends to disregard rules when they seem overly inconvenient, leading him to have a NG alignment.

Oh, this is an interesting bunch already.

Seems we have a frontliner, a finesse fighter, a rogue. So need a spellcaster type ish.

I love playing all those things..... *bounces up and down* Must decide. Let me go look at Classes.

First idea had been a Lady Knight (Paladin or Cavalier)

But im gonna go look! So many interesting things. Oh the any race thing is mean :P

Oh yeaaaaaah we got Dharkantia! And Moonjuice with the Unchained Barbarian! Alright!

Love your backstory beginning Moonjuice-
Don't forget the craft/profession/performance!

If I'm reading this right it would appear we need a strong spell caster, a cleric, and I believe a tracker, though Jonny's character may be capable of that with intriguing discussions with surrounding animals.

Outside of that I am absolutely loving the classes and character sketches so far!

Hahahaha I know, but when I say diverse I don't mean "ummmm we have a human, a half-elf, and oooh a half-orc and a gnome!"

*slap-slap slap slap slap slap* NO!

Nothing wrong with anyone choosing those races, but this is an out of this world experience from a gigantic mock-pathfinder empire!

Which means it is just absolutely crazy full of random s$@% :)

Ogre-Druid?

Pathfinder Pathfinder Accessories Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Oh, I could do the Lady Knight as a Cleric.....

Hehe, well so the question is asked. On race building, what is the point buy for it?

Some follow up questions:
Do the 5 bonus backstory skill points have to follow the level rule? (1pt/level)
Are we allowed to take a drawback for a third trait?
We are starting at level 1 correct?
Can we have crafted our equipment if we have skills in that?
Normal starting gold as per class?

Here is the PC

I'd like to express my interest in this one. I have a couple of questions, neither of which is a deal breaker for me, just curious.

1) Since Unchained is on the table, are you going to use the Background Skills Variant?

and

2) Would it be alright to use one of my custom races I built using Race Builder? If so, I was thinking either the Majar or the Velmoru, both of which can be found in my profile.

@Bodzilla

Do it!

@Dharkantia

Try to keep it at 14. If it's 15 but not super overpowered, I could do a little lee way.

@Moon

Nope. All at once baby! Your crafts are for your personal development :hint hint: AND for the side projects, as this game (if you can't tell) is not just a dungeon dive and kill game.

A drawback as in a penalty to yourself? If so absolutely- I'd consider the Syrinx's problem a drawback, and I find it excellent. (that they don't speak common)

Gold and crafted items will be at the mercy of The Council after their hearing with all of the Crisis Team's members.

@Fallen

Looking at the skills varient here on the d20 page, I will say no. Why?

Simply because I've already done my revamped version of that between the free skill points and 2 background traits (that are open to ANY trait you can justify, not just those outlined in the pathfinder books)

In regards to your own race, absolutely! I'd review it just for a second, but outside of that that should be absolutely fine!

No reason in particular, other than which way I need to allocate the skills. The Background Skills variant just requires a slightly different approach in spending. Like I said, I was just asking.

I think I'll go with the Majar, most likely a caster of some sort. Now, which one, which one.

@Dharkantia

Lord Perpireen McGibel is a perfect example of a self made race-

His is 20 rp, but is specialized and balanced, though I may be talking to him about a few things xD

@Fallen_Mage

No worries- I might seem like I'm being a douche, but I promise you I'm pretty laid back with all of this xD

Wait, should I be choosing a third trait, then?

Sunstone-

If it's a drawback one, sure *which is why I made the exception*

Though I would say you so far have a small drawback by not knowing common.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ack, I think you may be a bit confused. A drawback is a negative trait that you take allowing you to take another positive trait, giving you a total of four traits, or three traits and a drawback.

Ooooh, hahaha, I am then LOL-

I put in the two traits as my own thing, though I know that's a common up and coming thing with Unchained and the new rules.

I prefer 2 traits- but the drawback trait I took as the only 3rd trait, not the rules of 1 drawback trait = 1 bonus trait.

So- 2 traits that are positive, or 2 positive to 1 negative.

Forgive me for that- it seems me putting my own spin on things actually somewhat follows what the rules are xD

I'm unsure of Pathfinder's point of this trait exchange system- but mine is solely to let you guys have a little more fun when making your characters xD

Thanks for the clarification. I did mean using the draw backs rules. I won't take a drawback then, but I will still incorporate flaws into my character. It just won't have the mechanical effects of a drawback.

Not a problem! My apologies for being confusing there- I can see how that would make you all go "wtf is he talking about....."

<3

By the way, I would like to stress again that in regards to if you build your race, I do not actually care about points, I care about balance. Seeing as you have to clear it with me privately anyways, I emplore you to go all out.

I want this to be an amazing long haul adventure containing NO regrets about this process right now.

Secondly, I believe I count 6 people on here in character design, and I have loved all ideas put forth so far, and thus Recruiting is done I believe!

(If anyone from my ESO game is attempting to join, please, let me know and I'll see what I can do :) )

Campaign tab will be opened- those who have posted here already feel free to dot in the discussion thread!

Wait, are we starting at level 5?

Bodzilla I CANT WAIT To see your druid.

Okay, I kinda settled on a couple of ideas. Hashing out the details with Council at this time for the major drawbacks.

Right now I am leaning heavily towards Holy Tactician Paladin, Oracle of Battle, or Healing Cleric.

I think he means PART 1 will take us lvl 1 to lvl 5

All done

Hahahaha damn it, sorry-

No @Bodzilla we END Part 1: The Trial (this part of The Development Project) AT level 5.

I realize in my description of rules I am not always clear and apologize-

I promise my storytelling, where I am less less less restricted, is much better <3

I present to you, Talathel, the dwarf with the elvish name.

Still finishing up the gear, but I think the rest is ready to go.

I require a background, Talathel Morgrym :)

Outside of that, excellent!!!

I knew i was forgetting something there. I will type that up and have it ready soon.

No worries xD

Fallen_Mage here. Here is the crunch, I've got to get the backstory together. It might take me a bit, this weekend's going to be a little busy for me.

Don't worry about it Telula- it will be the same for me. It's why I said Monday should be a good start instead of tomorrow-

Good luck, and thanks for the heads up!

Crunch done

equipment right now would be none for the reasons discussed Council

Back ground will come this weekend.

WHEN background is done ill know her profession/perform/crafting. Though most likely it will be performs with her curses

Excccccccellent!!! That is... 4 out of 6 done, not bad!

I grow more and more excited to see what you all do :)

Background has been added to profile. Enjoy.

Question about those 5 extra skill points. Do we have to wait for your okay to use them, or can we apply them now?

Dotting for interest! I have the perfect character for this! I'll sketch something and post here soon. :)

Grand Lodge

Dot

Here's my submission! It's my little Nightshard, a race I created a long time ago for a different system, adapted to Pathfinder :) Background, race and sheet are in the alias. Feedback is welcome! I hope you guys enjoy.

Alright, as it stands with interest that puts us at EIGHT players!!!

I'm totally ok with this, BUT, unfortunately must cut it off there then!

I appreciate the interest-

Newbies (in regards to dotting for interest) PLEASE have characters ready on Monday afternoon!

Just a heads up, I pasted in gameplay early on he request of the GM evryone, kind of test

Hate to say this but this PC is 99% like mine, Tiny Fay that uses swords.

A sneak fighter.

Mine has been excepted in to the game, there would be massive overlap between to near identical PCs in game. I think you may want to rethink your PC Idea sorry to say, But really its up to the GM. But I think from his PMS hes looking for as wide a range of PC ideas as possible.

Edit: also looking at the race built I would place it at CR1 like my race. Give the things it can do, SLAs flight, DR, race Feats/skills etc for balance in game

While I agree on the build on paper, Lord McGibel, the attitude and upbringing of this character is significantly different.

It's a team of 8-9, so there will be a LITTLE overlap, especially since it's unchained (more than one person may want to take advantage of the barbarian or rogue changes) but I didn't think of your character until you said something, solely because my plans for theirs are different from yours.

Thank you though, that IS why I invited you to this game after all <3

My point I think is not about game play that is always different player to player. I was kind of thinking of Balance. What I was asking was are you happy with 0CR for that level of rave build i have the point buy at 22 RP, If so I may rebuild my race to gain a class level and DR5 as well. My worry is the balance we talked about, other players may seek to match the new higher power level. So far its been good and balaned, we have had a cap of 18 on state that has been self imposed buy players and CR to limit over strong races, like mine.

A PC that is as powerfull as mine, with no CR and a class. Yikes is all I can say.
