I was initially very pumped about this superscription, but the euphoria is fading fast. Looking at the books coming up in the next year I'm struck by the overwhelming majority of the books being nearly pure fantasy. I'd like to see some more true SciFi.

I love to read and often run out of authors. The public library system in my area is terrible with the fantasy/sci-fi section (not unusual) and I have trouble finding the out of print books. I also love having the opportunity to try out a new book that I never would have found on my own. I've tried other such book subscriptions and have been deeply disappointed in the quality of the books sent. Not so with Planet Stories. I've only gotten two so far but I enjoyed both immensely (The Samarkand Solution and the Ginger Star). The only trouble is that I'm reading through them too fast and have to await the next with baited breath. I highly recommend subscribing to Planet Stories and plan on purchasing all the books that I missed before I knuckled down and subscribed.

I love getting a book in the mail every month or so, I read so many books it can be hard to get to the book shop all the time, so for some good fiction to be delivered to my door reguarly is great. So far the books I have received have been great, I loved reading Gary Gygax works and am really enjoying The Ginger Star which I received yesterday, I am enjoying it so much I went and ordered Leigh Brackett's previous book The Secret of Sinharat, which I missed out on getting. Cant wait to see what the future holds. Keep up the great work Paizo.

I get these with my other subscriptions every month and these are the first thing I look at. One so-so book in about 6 so far. Very action packed pulp fiction so far. Loving it and highly recommending it. As another reader said, these are very fast reads. That's not so bad. You can just read them again in the time you would read a less exciting book. :)

I've had a chance to receive and read both the Annubis Murders by Gary Gygax and City of the Beast by Michael Moorcock.

Annubis Murders was far more lyrical than I would have expected. While the mystery revealed is somewhat unsatisfying [a la Sherlock Holmes the final reveal includes information not really available to the reader] it moved at a quick pace and was an enjoyable read.

City of the Beast is a romp on Mars in the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs. If you like John Carter, you'll undoubtedly like Michael Kane.

The thing that was most disappointing were the number of minor typos. ~5 in each book or so. Most were of a somewhat forgiveable nature (using the wrong real word in the sentence like form instead of from). A couple of the typos required me to think carefully about what was being said, but otherwise aren't too bad (though I certainly would like to see that changed).

I'd consider each of the books something that can be knocked off in short order. For Annubis Murders I read the entire thing between waiting for a flight and arriving at my destination, and City of the Beast was completed in a single work day between slow moments and breaks. On average, I think most people can knock one of these books out in about 8 hours of reading, they seem around 200 pages, and a fast reader can do it more quickly.

For that reason, if you're going to have a large amount of time to read, make sure to have two or three ready and lined up.

So far each book has also stood well on its own. While the characters are open-ended enough to allow sequels, (and perhaps prequels) there is no feeling that you're starting without enough information about the characters/events, etc.

I do recommend the subscription. I'm curious to see what else they've chosen for me when the next three arrive in the next day or so.
