Awesome news. Any word on what the minis will be named?

You should do serious research on this topic, but IIRC Cthulu is public domain.

While the subjects of existing gaming products covering the Cthulhu Mythos are public domain, the game stats and specific rules text of those products may not be. So while there are d20 stats for Nyarlathothep, those stats may not be legal reproducible. But there's nothing stopping you or anyone else from making your own version of any of the elder gods or their eldritch minions.

Oh no! Feel better, boys!

If you're interested in Pathfinder Society organized play games, there's a fairly active group of online players using the google group Pathfinder Society Online Collective.

Dawkins strikes again planning to arrest the Pope

You know, I'm not to thrilled about the Church's actions in the hole perv priest scandal. Something definitely needs to be done. I'd say the best thing is for Benedict to step down (if possible) and turn himself over to a responsible authority for trial - perhaps the Italian courts.

That being said, I think this guy Dawkins is an ass, and an attention seeking jacknut who needs a good b@#!& slap to the face.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there. Whatever zealous, anti-religion mission this guy or Hitchens or any other militant athiest might be on, making a scapegoat of any religious leader (even one as prominent and implicated as the Pope) isn't going to do anything to prove that all religions is inherently "wrong" as his book argues.

In your opinion, would you consider Zyphys and Rovagug the two to keep away from or are there others (in general that is)?

I think Lamashtu, Urgathoa, and Zon-Kuthon are probably also on that list as well, though a creative character concept could make them work. I have a Kuthite monk who's into self-mutilation to improve herself and condition herself for the inevitable pains of life. Yeah, she's a cutter. But she has no problem going after a Kuthite cult, because they tend to want to hurt others instead of using pain to better themselves. Anyway, any evil god is going to be a challenge to play in some situations and with some fellow players. It's tough to avoid Asmodeus, since Cheliax is one of the five factions. I think he's the only evil deity that one can easily play in PFS, as long as you focus on his lawful as opposed to evil tendencies.

They've received as much attention as goblins, they just didn't undergo a ground-up re-imagining. I don't think we'll see player-oriented companions for either race at least until there are thorough rules for playing monstrous characters.

Am I the only one who thinks the neck and head of this mini looks ... inappropriate? I mean, c'mon!

Well, paint me unperceptive. I guess that's what I get for not reading carefully.

I think this is my new favorite PFRPG crunch site. I like to run "official" Golarion games, with only setting-specific rules, and also do a lot of PFS as player, GM, and designer, so it's nice to have a resource that compiles the stuff not in the PRD and lists what's legal for PFS and not. I like the simple format, too. Good work!

Do you plan to add weapons/magic items/equipment, PrCs, and alternate class abilities or spell/summon lists? I know there are examples of each of these listed as legal for PFS play.

I saw an old Ace double while stopping in at a local rare book store (which reminds me of the bookstore in NeverEnding Story) that included this and People of the Talisman. I totally would have picked it up, but I want to get the Planet Stories version, and it was even more expensive than a new Planet Stories book. Any plans to publish People of the Talisman, since it's also an Eric John Stark story?

As noted in other threads, a very specific set of circumstances has to have transpired for someone to be 12th level now anyway, and I know a lot of people are waiting to complete Echoes of the Everwar for their last 11th level scenario, so there can't be that many people with 12th level PCs to begin with. We can wait.

Spoiler:
I hear the sequel's better anyway.

They don't have product pages yet, so I asked before, but the new search function is really good at locating previously posed queries. Whenever I find out information like this, I always add it to the PathfinderWiki as well, so that's another place you might want to look.

Note that all authors have been announced except for the two July scenarios, The Infernal Vault and The Jester's Fraud.

I know how you'll be spending your European vacation...

I don't know if it can be answered but I'm curious. Josh, are you willing to release the author list for the new scenarios being listed in the catalog for Gen Con?

I personally am specifically interested in #52, 57, 58, and 59

#52: The Twofold Demise is by Joshua J Frost

#57: The Bloodcove Disguise is by Crystal Frasier
#58: Rescue at Azlant Risge is by Joshua J Frost
#59: The Rebel's Ransom is by Jason Bulmahn

I recommend Silent Tide as a very good one for new players
+1. Excellent starting point. Good balance. Never heard of a player kill in this one let alone a TPK.

I had a TPK on this one, but I relented and let the monk escape (faster move speed, deflect arrows). They went into the final fight without a strategy and the tank got critted with a longbow in the surprise round. The end.

The Pallid Plague

I know there are several dozen 11th level PCs in the New York area who are one scenario away from hitting 12th. They're just waiting on the final installment of Echoes of the Everwar to finish that arc and put themselves over the top. I'm actually not sure anyone could be 12th level yet, given the timing of The Faithless Dead's release in a few months.

I predict that the AP following Serpent's Skull will be set in Ustalav and that we'll see a Chronicle book detailing the gothic region (probably written in no small part by Wes). I think the followup to that will be Jade Regent (finally) and will launch at GenCon 2011 with a hardcover World Guide: Tian Xia and hardcover (setting neutral) Oriental Adventures rulebook. I guess it's possible these would be released later in the year to coincide with the AP actually getting across the Crown of the World and into Tian Xia, but they seem like excellent GenCon releases. I also think we'll see a Classic Mythology Revisited (Erik's said as much already), and if Classic Treasures and Lost Cities of Golarion do well, Classic Dungeons Revisited.

Right now the plan is to release one special each year that is not sold on paizo.com and can be requested by conventions. That way it can run wherever it needs to each season. Once the special has been out for a year, it will go up for sale to be used anywhere.

The next season special officially kicks off at Gen Con, but we're running a playtest of it at Paizo Con.

This event sounds awesome, as do the rest of the new scenarios. It's cool to see descriptions of some of the ones we've only heard titles for thus far. I'm really looking forward to the Kaer Maga series. Who's writing the four at GenCon and what are the last two scenarios from Season 1?

Can I ask one more question?:
Will the covers in season 2 be a different color other than red so they can easily be distinguished from season 1 scenarios?

One more?:
How do I give a GM credit for a scenario they've eaten when I report it?

Hopefully we'll learn more about Walkena the Child God. I noticed some of his followers in the NPC Guide, and would like to know more about the faith.
While Walkena is a big problem in Sargava (especially out in Kalabuto), Mzali is actually part of the Mwangi Expanse, so he's covered in more detail in Heart of the Jungle, our guide to that region.

What about Shimye-Magalla? I've wanted more info on him/her since reading the first (and only) reference in the Campaign Setting all those years ago.

Most of the humans who first settled the region were Taldans following the Sellen with the Armies of Exploration.

I'll be skipping any future map packs, unless there are player-friendly versions.

Note that the format of the map packs is changing with Kingmaker, which will consist entirely of poster hex maps of the Stolen Lands for players to fill in as they explore the region. After that, the next one will be the 36-panel Inner Sea Poster Map detailing every nation and location within the Inner Sea region. So don't write off the line just on this one, since it's the last one of the format we've seen thus far.

#43 - The Pallid Plague: Fun RP encounters and a focus on an element of the game often ignored in many adventures.

#47 - The Darkest Vengeance: Awesome problem solving adventure with a great revenge plot

#53 - The Maze of the Open Road: Fantastic follow-up to Erik's epic double-header, giving PCs a world-spanning race to make even the most experienced of Pathfinders' heads reel.

What? A guy can't have a favorite author?

Spoiler:

I had already made a "Mark Moreland" alias, but Ross or Gary just swapped the names when I got the new tag (which was probably much easier for them). And thanks! Now leave me alone, I'm retired.

As it is Part 1 of 4 and is already APL 12 and double length (2 XP?), how best to ensure that one's PC is not too high level to play Parts 2 to 4 before retirement with the same PC that does Part 1?

The double length scenario will still provide only a single Chronicle. Each level 12 PC may play through an entire lvl 12 arc before retirement. They never advance to 13th level over the course of the arc.

OOO, nice new explanation of what volumes one can start with at any given time. Great change.

Response for this game has been unbelievable. I had to find a second GM to handle the extra six players who signed up above the six who fit at my table. If everyone has a good time, I'll certainly be running more PFS at future meetups.

The bus worked wonderfully for me flying in, and while it took a bit longer than a shuttle would have it was much, much cheaper. I had a very early morning flight out on Monday morning, though, so I had a shuttle pick me up and take me back to the airport so I could get a little more sleep before needing to get up, as a bus would have required more lead time.

A cursory glance of the profile for each of my aliases should reveal otherwise.

Denim N Leather, I'm going to try running more games at future meetups, so keep an eye on the RPG Connect board I linked to, NYC D&D Meetup and Pathfinder NYC for future announcements.

Can you get Erik to finish Requiem for the Red Raven?

Huh, ok then! First, thanks for the shoutout, but please remove my email from the post as I don't want to get flooded with spam when spiders make their way through the message boards.

Players can get more information on the table at RPG Connect. I believe three spots are already full from people off-list (two who I played with last week and one who will be joining for the first time) so that leaves three spots open.

Ross to the Rescue!

I was refereing to these:

Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide
Curse of the Crimson Throne Player's Guide
Legacy of Fire Player's Guide
Council of Thieves Player's Guide
Kingmaker Player's Guide

The one for Legacy of Fire is indeed filled under Companion and not Adventure Path.

Linkified.

And I guess I'm not sure what you're asking. The Second Darkness Player's Guide is also listed as a Pathfinder Companion, since it was released as part of that line (and launched it, for that matter). Other than this and the Legacy of Fire Player's Guide, all the other player's guides were released as free pdfs and the first two were also printed.

Chris Kenney wrote:
The cost would only be 8,950 GP because you don't have to add in the Masterwork cost (It's already accounted for in the +1.)

Enhancement bonus pricing does not include the price of masterwork or special materials.

Paizo experimented with using the Pathfinder Companion line to act as printed, expanded player's guides. They are available in print or pdf format, but neither is free.

Nah, there's just a lot of them in this adventure.

I ran this tonight and found quite a few problems

First, the exact same vampire spawn statblock appears twice in the adventure, while neither of the vampires (who both have the same stats? bummer) have stats in the document itself. Seems like that space could have been better used. The stats also list the spawn's energy resistance as Cold and energy 10 which is a copy paste error from the Bestiary itself, I believe, and should be cold and electricity 10 as per the vampire statblock.

Additionally, PCs tonight did the same thing in tier 10-11 that my group did when I played it last week: the tried to follow the gaseous form of the first vampire in the town square. Where does it go? Can they actually kill it? And if not, are they really saving Whistledown by killing the final BBEG? I was almost tempted to reward the PCs for not resting after the town square fight and trying to follow the vampire to it's lair by having it head to the island (and them using the undead's boat and skipping the smuggler altogether) and then reward them further by having it be the same vampire. I think the PCs should get something for pushing on through without resetting the 15 min adventuring day and find the final battle easier because the vampire is still regenerating when they show up at his crib.

It was also disappointing throwing the same three monsters at the PCs multiple times. I would have loved to see a bit more variety in the encounter design.

I think this plot arc has some awesome backstory, and I can't wait to see where it goes in the final installment, but none of the rich history comes into play or is revealed to the Pathfinders at all in this one, and that too is a bit of a letdown.

Has anyone else done anything to breathe more life into this one at the table?

Any April retirements we should be on the lookout for?

I didn't even know! Do you mean that they all had backgrounds written for them, o that they've all been given stats and character sheets? If there's stats for them, I would love to get to see them.

All 12 iconics have appeared in the Adventure Paths as pregen characters. To date, only 4 have appeared as official PFS pregens. Additionally, all 12 iconics received a sample statblock in the months leading up to the release of the PFRPG in August of last year in which Jason previewed some of the features of each of the classes. Their backstories each appear on the post which debuted their Wayne Reynolds artwork in 2007 and 2008 or you can find them all here.

I think that's up to GM interpretation. There's nothing in the rules that says that they don't remember their actions during the time they were charmed, but also nothing that says their change in attitude is more than believing the caster to be a friend or ally. So they might be a little confused as to why they ever thought the caster's suggestions might be worth following, but I don't know if they'd necessarily be mad with the caster. It would depend on the specifics.

All 12 of the existing iconics have received writeups, though Valeros, Seoni, and Merisiel's don't give as much info as the rest. When the six iconics for the upcoming Advanced Player's Guide are revealed, they too will get writeups.
