Hmmm, I'd just draw a bunch of stick figures whining and complaining about 4th Edition.
The character builder is really amazing, simple and quick. If you haven't downloaded it yet I highly recommend it!
The video is fantastic.
We switched over to 4E as soon as it came out (with Keep on the Shadowfell), and I'm having the time of my life. I plan on running the 4E Dungeon Crawl Classics from Goodman Games for my group.
Also, the usual DM has decided to convert the Age of Worms campaign path to 4E - we were at 12th level. I recently converted my 12th level warblade to a 12th level fighter (swordmaster paragon path), and he's way more awesome. Looking forward to snuffing Kyuss.
I wouldnt worry about finding a 4E group, it's going to be the supported edition for the next decade, and will indeed grow. After October, when tpp's start releasing 4E GSL material there will be alot more 4E stuff on the shelves and more people are going to pick it up.

Here's an Ogre Cave podcast featuring Joseph Goodman of Goodman Games discussing the GSL and 4E from the standpoint of someone running a company that has signed the GSL. Have an open mind and give it a listen, the sky is not falling.

Here's the truth, for all the people who hate WOTC that much. Watch DnD die off and you'll see the industry follow. Pretty much everyone gets introduced to pen n paper gaming by DnD. The industry needs a strong DnD (and so WOTC) to keep stores open and new gamers coming in.
Very true. That and Warhammer.
Krome wrote: Well simple examples would be there are no barbarians, bards, druid, monk, nor sorcerer.
There are no PC gnomes nor half-orcs.
No spells.
No time to master new rules for publication.
Horrible GSL making publishing under 4E all but impossible.
These are the ones I can see of the top of my head. The first three require the world they built to be remade.
Gnomes are playable out of back of the the Monster Manual. Have one in our group, works just fine.
As for the GSL, Goodman Games doesn't seem to be having trouble producing awesome 4E adventures. I've preordered all the DCC's that are available for preorder so far and am excited to be able to run them for my group.

Because it's Thursday ....
Sadly that's actually less stupid than some of the anti-4E stuff I've seen.

I always felt that the character has always been defined by his companions. If anything bored me it was constantly seeing Drizzt moping off by himself. I really don't want to read a Drizzt story that doesn't have the fully developed character dynamic I'm used to.
To me, this gives Salvatore a blank canvas to create new and interesting characters. Things can't just stay the same forever, that's just not realistsic anyway.
Ixancoatl wrote: xredjasonx wrote: I totally understand, but the old Realms was just soooo overused. It needed this change.
If it's over used, rather than change it, couldn't you just .... not use it? I did stop using it. I've been playing in campaigns set in Eberron for the last couple of years, which is a setting I really like. But now that FR is changing with 4th Edition, I'm very interested. And again, I read Swordmage and I really liked it.
I totally understand, but the old Realms was just soooo overused. It needed this change.
I'm even looking forward to reading the 4E Drizzt novels. I admit, I got bored at Spine of The World. Back then I felt that the Drizzt series should have ended with Passage to Dawn. But Drizzt in 1479 DR, that's interesting....
If that rumor dies, something else will take it's place. Since it was announced, people are going to continue to invent reasons not to like 4E.
Steerpike7 wrote: xredjasonx wrote: Those books are still set in the old timeline I think. The new series is called Transitions and it opens and closes after the Spellplague, from what I understand. So it looks like they're at least preparing to move the Drizzt books into the current FR time, which will mean that many of the characters won't be around anymore. Which is totally fine by me. How many books can people want to read with the same characters over and over and over again? I really liked Swordmage, and I'm looking forward to a new generation of heroes and such for the Realms.

I want D&D to steal popular fantasy elements for inclusion into the game -- I want unicorns, wizards, trolls, magic swords, floating castles, and so forth. In fact, one of my criticisms of 4e has been the deliberate omission of popular fantasy elements in favor of purely-original material.
So, as far as I'm concerned, they can steal this. Even if it's rather amateurishly done.
4th Edition still has all those things my friend.
Those books are still set in the old timeline I think.

I don't like WoW, and if they took an idea from it, oh well. The base town in the 4E DMG is call Fallcrest, and isnt there an island in WoW called Crestfall? Who cares. WoW wouldn't exist without D&D in the first place.
I'm looking forward to the new Realms.
We just converted our 12th level characters from the Age of Worms adventure path to 4E and will be continuing it soon. It's set in Eberron, which I think is an awesome campaign setting. I was playing a warblade (Book of Nine Swords) and now he's a 12th level fighter with the swordmaster paragon path and I like it so much better.

Swordmage..
I thought it was a pretty good book. Richard Baker is a great writer and game designer. I'm looking forward to playing a genasi swordmage in the 4E Forgotten Realms.
I liked D&D all the way up from 2nd Edition, and I think 4th Edition is the most fun I have ever had playing D&D.

Chrono Trigger.
I'm actually looking forward to the first 4E Drizzt book.

This is so true looking at the Pathfinder mods, so much uneeded fluff.

Two weeks later, the Handbook is now #50, the DM's Guide is down to #86 and the Core Book Set and Monster Manual are no where to be found in the top 100.
I'd say the hype is dying down...and I'm not talking about Pathfinder. Yes, I think so. The 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons is going to be the supported edition for the next decade at least.
Anaxxius wrote: Honestly, if WOTC didn't create it would 3.5 be D&D?
The statement can be used for ANY edition of D&D.
Honestly, if TSR didn't create it would 2e be D&D? The question would keep on going and going all the way to the beginning.
Yep. It's just another convenient route for people to b#$*~ and complain about the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. The only "hype" that's going to die down once the other 4E Core Rule Books and supplements etc. come out will be the Pathfinder RPG.
I agree. He said it like it was, his ripping apart of the Ten Commandments is priceless.
Yes, the first 3 4E DCC's will be released on August 6th according to Amazon, but even September is ok by me. And they are using 4th Edtion D&D rules and they are going to be awesome. I'm actually going to be running the Goodman Games DCC's when they come out as an adventure path, starting with Sellswords of Punjar.
Goodman Games products get the early release I'm sure partly because they were on board with supporting 4E from the get-go. Whereas Paizo was too busy with listening to idiots like Razz and came out with the Pathfinder RPG, which I'm never going to touch.
The 4E DCC's are already available for pre-order on Amazon (I've pre-ordered all of them), I made a list:

I agree completely.
Let's not forget that on page 184 of the 4E MM there is a big section dedicated to creating your own monsters. You can use this to make 4E versions of your old favorites. I did it recently for Kenku ;)
I will be and am playing 4th Edition. 3.5 was fun, but I don't think any form of it can compare to the fun I'm having now with 4E. No more clunky D&D for me. ;)
Honestly, I don't really care if some people want to stick with the clunkier system of 3.5 Just look at the thread on Pathfinder Skills, those skills are a mess compared to the 4E list.
What bothers me is that there may be some people who might have an interest in 4E who look at all of the whining about it here on the Paizo forums and end up not checking it out for themselves.
And if Paizo continues to expend their resources and products on 3.5, then that's just less product I will purchase from them. I said time and time again that the anti-4E camp was just a vocal minority and the fact that the 4E set has been on Amazons best seller list for a while now has proven me right. I'm going to be signing up for Goodman Game's 4th Edition Dungeon Crawl Classics and as they are being released very soon. We are also playing Keep on the Shadowfell and will continue with the other WotC modules. If Paizo doesn't want to focus on it, that doesn't affect me.
Do you think these will be available through another manufacturer?
I pre-ordered the gift set on Amazon for $57. That's pretty much half price!
Can't wait for it!! I see great things for 4E.
Sir Hexen Ineptus wrote: Now this isn't soo much about 4e as the title says.
Yes I have figured out what they are doing with dungeons and dragons 4th edition.
After seeing the posts here. It just came to me. A lot of people on that thread is saying that the rules are so simple, maybe too simple. So once 4e keels over, like it is supposed to, ADnD 4ed will be released.
DnD4 is only designed to hook new players, if it catches on, then they would stay with it. If it doesn't, then they will release ADnD4, which will be based off DnD4, but much more like the 3.5e we all know and love.
Thats it, 4e is just a hook to get all of us to buy it, as to test it, and get the initial 35-70+ dollars out of us and bam! We are all played for suckers.
Well I have played it and tested it, playing Keep on the Shadowfell, and I must say, it's some of the most fun I have ever had playing D&D!

Don't know the source, my local hobby shop owner told this to me so wherever he got that from is anyone's guess.
Well then it must be true! Lol.
Razz wrote: I don't understand why they are going backwards with D&D. Razz, I said it months ago that the anti 4th Edition people are just a vocal minority and that Paizo might be making a mistake with the Pathfinder RPG as opposed to embracing and moving on with 4E. They did it to appease people like you as they were afraid of losing business. They still may be hanging on to their core customer base, which is fine. But it's just a drop in the bucket compared to 4E.
Looking now (and thinking about all your inane posts), at the fact the the 4th Edition Core Rule Book gift set is the #3 best seller on Amazon and the #1 best seller on the Canadian Amazon, all I can do is smile.

Awesome! I've pre-ordered pretty much everything that's available so far and I'm happy to see that it's doing so well. I'm playing Keep on the Shadowfell currently and I already like it (4E) way much better than 3.5. There's no way I would even consider Pathfinder RPG.
Aristodeimos wrote: I'm going to be very interested to see how WotC reacts to this. My guess is that they'll ignore it until it becomes evident that Paizo is seriously crimping their plans by giving half the fans an outlet to stay with 3.5.
I salute your bravery Paizo. Moreover, I'll support you fully with my wallet.
I highly doubt Paizo competes with WotC's sales my friend.
Patrick Curtin wrote: Just out of curiosity, is this you who started this thread over at Gleemax?
Paizo shows the finger to WotC ... just curious, seems like same sig, 180 degree stance change. Am I missing something?
I agree with the post in that thread that said:
"Paizo are striking out on the path they believe is best, and good luck to them. So are WotC. I'm going to buy 4e because I'd rather have it than a tweaked 3.5."
So long Paizo. All I ever really bought here were game aids anyway, and Ill just buy the Planet Story novels used on Amazon. Why play and invest in an inferior system?

I'm sure, for the few I know, that fourth edition isn't for me. Perhaps in three years with the 4.5 I will buy the three cores but form now I undoubtely don't buy or read nothing of fourth edition (I have too many 3.x supplements for thrash it now).
4.5 is not going to come out. Ever. Watch the 'D&D 4th Edition: Character Roles' video on Youtube. I don't think James Wyatt could have stressed this more. After playing a few battles using the delve characters and monsters released after the D&D Exp., I must stress once again: The mechanics are so much more fun and dynamic. D&D is going to be sooo much more fun.
I think that what happened with 3rd Edition is following WotC, and while it may be wise to be reserved, to be completely close-minded to the new edition is just plain smurfy.
