So, Michael is very interested in playing a Goblin mutant/alchemist. The spot is his. I'll be taking in another player, this one a new Channeler tradition, based on a Witch class.
This is just to let you know.
I'd be interested, if the spot is still open. Thanks! Be well,
crow
Crow, are you still interested to join the game?
Thanks for still considering me, but i have to back out. Just found out my father-in-law has stage 4 metastasized prostate cancer that has spread to his spine and jaw (at least.) My wife's flown down to Florida to help coordinate his medical care and there's a high likelihood of him moving from there to here (California), which significantly changes my home renovation schedule and puts a lot more on our family plate. It's still a fun-looking game and I hope y'all continue to have fun, but I can't jump in now and contribute to the extent the game deserves right now. Be well,

Right now, the pale legate really suits the campaign . . .
In the meantime, there are some relevant sourcebooks that would be of use to you, if you can find them. I'm thinking Hand of Shadow and Heart of Shadow.
Just found some inexpensive copies on Amazon. Thanks!
worcmrots, since you seem to have a solid knowledge of the setting, I'd like to point you towards www.againsttheshadow.org it's the official midnight fan site. Lots of good stories, games and discussion about the setting.
Thanks, DH. Actually, while i had seen ads for Midnight some time ago, this thread was my real intro to it. I looked it up on wikipedia, went through a lot of http://darknessfalls.leaderdesslok.com/, the site you likned to, and a chunk of the IC and OOC thread linked by NF. While the setting seems quite intriguing, I am more impressed by this group and the storyteller's iteration of it. Even the best setting can't compensate for lousy storytelling and players. Even the worst setting can provide an excellent game in good hands/minds.
I'll keep an eye on this thread and, if space becomes available, gladly drop in.
My initial background write-up for the elfling wogren-rider was:
Background:
Jaehan achieved some small reputation as a skilled scout and hunter. He was approached by agents of Aradil and hired to scout for them on a journey to see a particularly potent Black Mirror. They were actually on a mission to sunder it. Jaehan really liked the group (who were agents of Aridil), particularly the Danisil warrior who reminded Jaehan of his father.
After evading countless patrols and picking off isolated guards, Jaehan watched the inner perimeter and the group went into the inner circle to sunder the magic-sucking stone. They partially succeeded, cleaving off part of the Black Mirror in an explosion that sent shrapnel tearing through them.
Jaehan patted Rhoyna's neck. “Easy, girl. Let's go check it out. Quick and quiet." "For what that's worth, now,” he thought. They raced in on Rhoyna's padded paws to see what had happened and encountered the last survivor, the Danisil archer, who had a foot-long shard of the Black Mirror piercing his chest.
His last words were, “We were betrayed.” As he choked on bloody froth, a tattoo of a silver dragon surged down his arm and up onto Jaehan's, leaving a trail of burning pain in its wake. The Danisil and Jaehan both gasped, but the Danisil followed his with a final gurgle and rattle. Jaehan quickly searched his body, taking the large shard and several pieces of shrapnel, as well as the Danisil's quiver, flasks of poison, and compound short bow. Then he fled, terrified of the multiple bands of orcs that would be racing to the explosion.
Whether the shards drew them or not, he spent the next five years one step ahead of Legates and astirax. He slew three Legates with arrows tipped by Black Mirror shards and set a trap for a fourth, using the long shard as bait. The fourth one lost an eye to the attack, but survived, and is still hunting Jaehan.
My backup was the Pale Legate who was able to break from Izrador's service thanks to a fey curse cutting him off from the dreams that Izrador sends. I'd be happy to play either one. My RL group has splintered to grad school, kids (mine), and divorce, so a pbp seems like a time-appropriate alternative, and this one seems much better written and played than most. Be well,
crow
Are you still looking for any more players or does Sorok fill it up? I built an elfling wogren rider scout, then noticed they were not listed in your updated races list. Other paths I'd researched were a Danasil scout or a goblinoid Pale Legate Martial--cursed by a fey to have no dreams, so he was less influenced by Izrador's dream sendings.
If your game is full, I wish you a fun game. Be well,
Crow
If you are still looking for a martial character, I'd be very interested in riffing on the idea you posted above of a Dire Wolf able to take on humanoid form (Danisil or Erunsil), either in Wildlander or Barbarian flavor. If yes, let me know which elf variant and class flavor fits better with the other characters on the table.
Offspring of a wolfwere shifter (or its Midnight equivalent) and a snow or jungle elf, Skirnir Valeson was only accepted into the snow elf community because his father's cabin was distant from the village, allowing Freyr's story of finding the child abandoned in the woods to pass scrutiny. Skirnir's rough edges were explained as Vale's wild influence.
Triggers for Skirnir's departure could include: takeover of the local wolf pack by a darker force than his mother, his mother escalating the conflict with the snow elf village, the snow elf village deciding to wipe out the wolf pack, his father's death (rage accident?), exposure of his heritage, etc.
Functionally, he would prioritize dex over strength and seek both ambushes and team work to protect his "pack", errr . . . party. He would probably get along quite well with Muni, due to both having animal natures and the natural coordination of ravens and wolves.
Feat-wise, I'm going through your feat compilation and selecting appropriate ones like Agility Training, Eldritch Claws, etc. sort of thing for melee in humanoid form. He'd feel most comfortable in dire wolf form for that, though he recognizes discretion being necessary.
I can do a write-up tonight, if space is available in the party. I enjoyed both the story thread and particular components of the OOC thread.
