What happens in this situation with spell casting?

You have 5 level of sorcerer then take Red Mantis Assassin. Do the caster level stack for Illusion and Transmutation since they both use the same spell list?

I have this Sorcerer NPC that my players have interacted with. I want to add 3 levels of RMA to this NPC. Basically I have player interested in going into the RMA Prestige class and this would be a mentor.

So in the this example I have a level 5 sorcerer with 3 levels of RMA. Would Illusion and Transmutation spells cast be at 8th level CL. But if any other school would be cast at the Sorcerer CL.

So here is the thing. Archery had no defense. Magic bow bypasses protection from arrows. Cluster shot bypasses stonskin. Improved precise shot by passes Concealment. Pin Point targeting by passes high AC.

So I need a spell to let the bad guy with stand at least 1 round of archery attacks. So I took Protection from Energy and created a spell based on that to Compliment Protection for Arrows called Resist Arrows as follows:
Resist Arrows

School abjuration; Level sorcerer/wizard 3, Summoner 3, Alchemist 3

Casting Time 1 standard action

Components V, S, DF

Range touch

Target creature touched

Duration 10 min./level or until discharged

Saving Throw Fortitude negates (harmless); Spell Resistance yes (harmless)
Resist Arrows grants temporty immunity to attacks from ranged weapons. Ranged attacks slow and stop before hitting the target. The Target can slow and stop 12 points of damage per level up to a maximum of 120 points at 10th level then the spell is discharged.

Resist arrows overlaps (and does not stack with) resist energy. If a character is warded by Resist Arrows and Protection for Arrows, the Resist Arrows spell absorbs damage until its power is exhausted.

Anyone see any issue with spell like this?

I've been looking at the rogue since the UC came out and I think I'd would make more sense as Alternate Class of the fighter. Basically I'd do away with the Rogue Class and the Ninja would replace it as it's own class and not alternate of the rogue.

The rogue would then be a fighter that swaps out Heavy Armor, Medium Armor, Tower Shield, shields, and All martial weapons for 8 skills per level. and class skills.

Trap finding and Trap sense would replace bravery

10 rogue talents would replace 10 bonus combat feats

Evasion would replace the 1st level bonus combat feat

Sneak Attack would replace Armor Training 1 and 2, Weapon Training 1-4, and Armor Mastery

Uncanny Dodge and Improved Uncanny Dodge would replace Armor training 3 and 4

Master Strike would replace Weapon Mastery

Reflex good save would replace Fortitude good save

The rogue would now have 1D10 HD and a Full BAB and qualifies for fighter only feats.

With this change you can not multi-class rogue with fighter but you can with a Ninja.

If you are immune to fatigue do you still have the condition of fatigue but take no penalty. Basically what I'm wondering is if you are immune to fatigue and gain fatigue can you become exhausted if you get fatigued again.

For example say you multiclass a Martial Artist Monk with Barbarian (no lawful alignment restriction on the Martial Artist). The Martial Artist makes you immune to fatigue. So when you rage no fatigue. Now if you rage again and gain fatigue a second time do you become exhausted?

This came up in discussion about the Magus. Why does the Magus use the spontaneous Spell Progression? With spontaneous caster they get new levels of spells a level later when you compare Wizard/witch to the Sorcerer.

Since there is no other 1-6 level spell class that doesn't spontaneous cast this is kind of new territory. I'd think that the Magus should get 2 level spells at level 3, 3rd level spells at level 6, 4th at level 9, 5th at level level 12 and 6th at 15th.

Just a thought

Can a 1st level rogue take the Extra Rogue Talent Feat in the APG to gain a Rogue Talent at first level? The pre-requisite is that the class has to have the Rogue Talent class feature which the rogue does. If that works then if you chose say weapon finesse as you rogue talent would you get it with out meeting the prerequisite. The combat trick gives combat feats and specifically says you must meat the pre-requisites to take a combat feat.

Now I'd ague that you can't take extra rogue talent till you at least have a rogue talent. But the counter argument that a Paladin can use a wand of cure light wounds before they actually can cast spells which is sort of the same since spell casting is class feature and using a wand requires the class feature to cast spell and that spell being on you spell list.

The question came up because it seems to be loop hole to gain Weapon Finesse at 1st level instead of second level. My argument now against it is that you still need to meet the pre-req unless it says so specifically that you don't like the ranger.

I did search on the forums to see if this had been addressed. Didn't find anything obvious. So my copy of the APG doesn't have a hit dice for the Rage Prophet prestige class. I was assuming a D8 but then someone brought up the Dragon Disciple that has 3/4 progression with D12 and since you have to be a Barbarian which has a D12 then it could be possible this Prestige Class could be 1D10 or 1D12 as well as the BAB to HD match up doesn't seem to apply with Prestige classes. So what is it?

Missed one thing I should have added. I the lost the spell with casting defensively. But we rolled back to try casting normally where I provoke an attack of opportunity. If hit I'd have to roll concentration against the damage taken + the spell level. We did this to see if there was difference.

In this case I was better off taking an attack of opportunity as the wolves needed a 17 to hit me. So 16 in 20 chance of success for my spell. Casting Defensively is 50/50 chance.

There is an ecology of the Serpent people in the first volume but the stat block for them seems to be in a 3.5 book on the Darklands which unfortunately I don't own. So my question is this. Should I buy this book or will there be an updated stat block in later parts of this AP?

The reason I ask is I'm looking to purchase about 3 books in the near future. One could be the Darklands book but I'd rather buy a another book if the serpent people are detailed in AP bestiary.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Just want to make sure I have this right. The monk only uses their Monk level for their attack bonus when using Flurry of Blow which is a full round action. So if the monk uses a standard action to make an unarmed attack they use the Monk BAB of 3/4s. Is this right?

I was thinking of taking scorpion style but it looks like I'd be better off going with Combat Expertise and Dodge then getting Improved Trip as trip can be used with the flurry of blows at the high attack rate.

I thought about about putting this under the Adventure Path Section or advice but since this more about buying a product for the additional content and not for the adventure I though it fit here best.

What I've got is game going in Katapesh. I'd like some more info on Katapesh saw the Legacy of Fire is set in Katpesh. Now if that AP is anything like the CoT or KingMaker the additional information would be useful.

Now I'm looking to buy one or two PDFs at first but which ones would be best for running a game in Katapesh? I'm going to see if I can buy the Dark Markets book through my LGS.

So does anyone have any suggestions on which of the 6 books to get first? If you have the books and had to choose for the added content on Katpesh for you home brew game which two book would you get first?

My group pointed this out to me the last gaming session. To take a Hell Knight Prestige Class you need +5 BAB, Heavy Armor Proficiency and be proficient in all martial weapons.

Not a problem really till we noticed a that the Leader of the Hell Knight Order of the Chain leader is an 11 level wizard and 2nd level Hell Knight which by the rules is impossible since wizards can't be proficient in all martial weapons. Again with Order of the Rack you have a Sorcerer 8 Hell knight 1. The issue show s up again with Order of the scourge with a Cleric 7 and Hell Knight 2.

So 3 of the orders have leaders who technically don't qualify to be Hell Knights but are. So is there a mistake in the requirements where it should proficient with a martial weapon vs proficient with all martial weapons?

Does the class skill bonus count as ranks when looking to qualify for prestige classes? In the Beta they addressed this concern by saying if you had the skill as class skill the requirement was -3 or double if didn't have the class skill. I can't seem to find any rules on this.

So for example the Dragon Disciple requires 5 ranks of Knowledge (Arcana). In the Beta that meant a sorcerer could would only need 2 ranks as Knowledge (arcana) was a class skill. So now in the core rules they require 5 but no mention who class skills affects that so it looks like they have to wait till 6th level before becoming a Dragon Disciple. Not a big deal here but I want to make sure that I'm doing this right when I create an upcoming NPC bad guy who is Red Dragon Disciple

I've got a battle Oracle in my game with tongues curse going through Bastards Of Erebus currently. We've done the sewer encounter and the rescue. So far seems much like a Cleric with better weapons and less spells due to the player taking the "Skill at Arms" revelation. This revelation is good but really won't show it's potential till the player gets heavy armor.

Here's what I've noticed going from 1st to 2nd Level. They don't get enough spells off the start. The revelations help but not enough. Going to 2nd level didn't help much but 3rd looks a bit better.

The curse seems extremely detrimental at low levels.

COT Encounter:
For example when returning the horses and encounter with upset actor. Well that turned out stressful and I had the curse activate then. Of course this character had the best diplomacy as the class is Charisma based. So instead of cooling the situation he was labeled the babbling idiot by the pompous actor. Still it made the encounter quite interesting.

The player playing the Oracle is having fun though with it. A few extra known spells seems to be the only problem with class in the early levels. Though if he wasn't the primary healer he could have chosen something other than cure light as one of those spells so this might be an issue with party design. Had there been a cleric the choices for spells would be different.

Over all fairly solid class so far. A few tweaks might be all it needs.

Next week hopefully, depending on weather, we will continue CoT 25 and see how this class works. I expect I won't see much more till we get into CoT 26 though as that's when the party will be 3rd level.
