The clarification is fairly straightforward in its intent. One needs a copy of the material so a GM can use it. If a GM can not reference the material at the table, you can't use that rules element. I don't think we need to overcomplicate an already robust rules system by detailing every fringe case in which someone might try to skirt the rule in an official FAQ or rules clarification; that's why the current Guide to Pathfinder Society is almost 40 pages. If you want to use that feat on your flash drive, bring what you need to view it or risk not being able to use it.
Mark or Hyrum, Is it ok as a GM to bring all the material with me so the players don't have to, as long as they are aware that if they play some where else they need to get it themselves? I always bring everything on my iPad, and I own all the PDFs, subscription has been my friend ;).

As of now that is what has been happening up here.

Of course I know two people who have went out and purchased all the core books and a few of the player companions.

Plus I am encouraging the store we are playing at to at least carry the Players Companions and maybe a rule book. I am not pushing the rule book to hard though.

Below are the official clarifications of the issues at hand in this discussion. The following supersedes any previous clarifications by Joshua J. Frost, Mark, or me. These will be included in future versions of the organized play rules documentation including the online FAQ.

With regard to the Core Assumption:

Pathfinder Society Organized Play assumes that every player has access to the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook and a familiarity with Pathfinder Chronicles: Seekers of Secrets, A Guide to the Pathfinder Society, and that every Game Master has access to the above plus the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary. When designing and developing scenarios, we assume that references to rules or flavor in these books needn't be explained. Lack of access to these materials may prevent players or GMs from being able to participate in the campaign. All relevant content from both the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook and Pathfinder RPG Bestiary may be found for free on the Pathfinder Reference Document at http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/.

With regard to use of non-core material as outlined in Chapter 13:

In order to use additional resources for your character, you must bring a physical copy of the book with you or printouts of the appropriate pages detailing cost (if any) and explanations for each feat, item, spell, prestige class, and so on that you use. One need not prove ownership of said material but they must be from a legally obtained PDF or book printed by Paizo Publishing; content reproduced in other sources under the Open Gaming License (such as an online reference document or a homemade omnibus) is not legal with regard to use in sanctioned Pathfinder...

"Raises hand"

One more question.....

I purchased Hero Lab and have been using that and have gotten people up here in Alaska to start using that as well.

I personally have a subscription to everything and have everything (except Swallowed Whole, and original Dungeon Flip Mat; and the Item Pack One Deck).

I just wouldn't be able to quote exactly what item came from what book since I use the Hero Lab software to create my character.

I am sure I'll eventually be able to quote what comes from what or even make an educated guess. Just not their yet on familiarity of the rules nor are the players up here that are participating in the Pathfinder Society.

As a side note I didn't know it was this "un-player friendly". I have played one game at Gencon and was psyched about it so started it up here in Alaska. I know some of the players I have up here wouldn't like being scrutinized like this if they were coming to a large convention like Gencon. I know they would take some but some of these posts are outright accusing. Of course I have yet to deal with players that "try" to cheat. I will always give the benefit of doubt that a person made an honest mistake.

I love my iPad, I just wish they would fix that stupid issue that Mac has had for a very long time with A's and sometimes scrambling text.

Another good thing about the colornook is that you can transfer files directly from PC to Nook and not have to "email" them to your reader. This also eliminates any maximum filesize email restrictions some ISPs may have.

If anyone gets one of these, post back about their PDF support please. They mentioned on the nook page that some PDFs containing something (I forgot what) may not open, etc.
If the built-in pdf support works well, itll finally tip me into the "buy a reader" crowd.

In other words the support is their and you should be able to use all of Pazio products on it.

I'd seriously like to know when this is actually being released. It is now October 25th 2010. in 4 days I board a train for Connecticut from where I live in Pennsylvania. This book will obviously not be in my bag to read for the 3 hour train ride. I'm actually disappointed.
We're still hoping that we'll have all of our October shipment items within the next couple of days, and we are prepared to turn them around quickly.

I love my iPad for this very reason.

Yes it's nice having the physical product but it sure is nice to read it the day you get a "shipped" notice.

Ok sorry if that sounded like a push for the iPad. Not meant to be. An tablet Luke device would do the trick with the PDFs.

Having all my Role Master books, Space Master books, 18XX rule books, and all the Pazio lines in one handy 1/2 inch thick "book" is sweet. Now it seems I just forget my initiative "combat pad".

Hmmm just need an app for that and I'd be good. (I know they have some but have not seen any I like. "

I think, I could be wrong, that the point he is trying to say is the average person "thinks" of it differently. I do not think he is saying it's different.

The average person does not even think twice when they copy a picture off the internet that is copy righted for their back ground on their computer.

Yet if that same picture was hanging on the wall at a store they wouldn't take it.

Well the larger one looks like it could be used with the new City Streets Flip Mat on the blank side.

Cool!

Sounds like the system is trying to use USPS Flat Rate shipping envelopes.

Two packages in that would be about $9.90 the next size up is a nice $10.85. I have had to explain that a couple of times selling things on ebay.

Of course I am just speculating. :O)

Sean

EDIT: Of course you have to add Pazio shipping staff/packaging/handling fee which doesn't sound like it raises it to much.

Wow, that looks awesome... but the $30 price tag seems awfully steep. The gigantic dragons that Wizard released a few years back (Colossal?) only came in at about $28 to $35 dollars at my local Hobby store, and I can think of many campaigns where I can use a big ole dragon. Gelatinous Cube, though a classic iconic monster from early D&D, seems to be a one-shot wonder. I mean, your players are not likely to come up against GC's in any real quantity, right? The whole fear factor for this particular predator is that one first encounter with them. After that, not so much. Anyway, just my opinion of course, but I think $30 for a 2" miniature that will likely only be used once is quite a bit too much to ask.

If you look at the price point of that colossal dragon now its going for !50 to $200 range where you can get it. Plus the new Balrog type thing they just released is $80 range.

Plus translucent resin isn't cheap now days.

Personally I got my GC from otherworld but think the price is even more from them.

As I pointed out to Dragonmoon in another thread prices have gone up a lot just in the last couple of years even.

I really like the idea of a magnetic surface. How does it go for you?

Well I really liked the idea of the bendy walls but the more I handle them I am not to impressed. At least the "dungeon" ones. Seemed like a good quarter of the connections broke as I was putting them together no matter how careful I was.

The sci-fi, and town ones were pewter for sure so perhaps they were better.

The magnets idea is nice. I am contemplating using MAGNETS for the map packs after laminating (possibly before then laminate, but not sure that would work, they are real small though, don't inhale to deeply type small). Not sure how they would work with the new and improved map packs though.

The stone pillars from Dark Platypus is pretty nice though as well as an spell radius set they offer.

Sean

EDIT: They work great on making the turrets on micro armour turn from here.

I got mine at Gencon and it was in a LONG box rolled up, so an UNOFFICIAL answer would be a separate shipping charge for this item.

It would be hard to squeeze into a small box as its pretty sturdy material.

Wet erase. Hope you didn't use to much water to get them cleaned off.

I'm gonna purchase some magnetic paper by Avery and print some of my own for specific Society games bad guys and the peoples characters up here in AK.

You can do better than this.

Presumably the issue is whether can they do better than this for the same price. As far as I'm concerned, I'd be happy to pay extra for more themed backgrounds and fewer empty grids - the different textures not being particularly valuable to me. However there are many who probably consider the flip-mats to be as expensive as they 'should' be.

I dare say the commercial reality is a need to balance including extra content with keeping the price at a point people will pay for them.

Since they have done maps already with both sides used, at this price, I would say Yes they can do it.

Prices do go up though. Quite a lot of late on a sort ofmthings.

I like them.

It gives me the flexibility to add map packs to the blank side how I want. Now with the potential of also being Dry/Wet/Permanent erasable it is a bonus.

But all personal opinion.

A few days ago, we added preview images, along with a diagram of how Map Pack: Shops can be used to reveal the interiors of the buildings depicted on Flip-Mat: City Streets.

We've also quietly revealed a new feature for GameMastery Map Packs: They now use the same write-on/wipe-off coating that we use on our Flip-Mats, meaning you can use dry-erase, wet-erase, and permanent markers with new Map Packs!

Pretty much a game changer!!!

I love the idea of using them together like that!

Sean

Or even the 8x5 cards like the map packs.

Not to sure I would use these though.

One side would have to have the stats and the other a really good photo. That way I can say this is the monster and then use the needed stats on the other.

Though I'm a completeness type of person so it would have to be all the monsters. Bestiary I and II closing on 340 monsters?

Hmmmmm

Edit: Which show how much it's killing me to have skipped Swallowed Whole map pack.....just didn't like that one but.....it is killing me.

Excellent! These are perfect for reading on an iPad while I rock my son to sleep.

Yea I wish I had it when he was at that age. Of course now he is 2 1/2 and has a Youtube addiction watching trains "woo woos" and the videos of Lego set being put together in "stop motion" ( my mind just went blank on what type of movie that is).

He of course is at that age if you tell him not that video he dosnt play it.

He'll even run to me with the iPad and point to the thumbnail of the video and say "nooootttt thaat....!". Keep saying it until you also say not that one.

Fun fun!

Of course him and mommy are going to West Virginia tomorrow for two weeks.

Now I am just rambling off topic!

Good epub. In fact going to email Air Cargo World and encourage them to do the same with their digital subscription.

Outstanding!

I was having this same issue.

Finally pressed "control" and "clicked" (mouse button or if MacBook mouse pad) and scrolled to save linked item to downloads.

Then dragged and dropped it into iTunes. It worked fine from there on with iPad after update the iPad with it.

I forget th exact wording of the "save download link" but it was along those lines.

Sean

Edit: he already answered you sorry. ;-)

Thank you!

Can you please see if it is possible for a sorcerer to purchase spells on scrolls between sessions and commit them to memory?  I looked at the rules and could not see where that is prohibited.  I also tried to find out information from the forum and struck out, but might have been looking in the wrong place.  Certainly there seems to be a provision for wizards to find/buy scrolls and add them to their spell books, so does it also work for sorcerers?

That is what was asked of me. I remember seeing something along those lines but do not want to give bad information.

Can they do it like wizards or not?

Thanks in advance. My next session is October 17th and hoping for more than 5 people this go around. I do have interest so it sounds like it but......

Sean

I thought at one point I read that the Gencon events were reported.

If that is so it's not showing up. If they have not I'll keep waiting.

It didn't kill the Pathfinder dice, but it sure did delay them for a really, really long time. Apparently they're getting back on task with them soon.

Good news!

Does that mean the other adventure paths will be seeing dice as well? Eventually?

Is the plan to offer the other short stories in the ePub format?

That would be great but if not I'll eventually get them read on the website just like reading in be on iPad at night before going to sleep. Can do that via website but not just as easy....

At any rate this product was great unexpected bonus.

I am truly surprised your not seeing it on the Core Book as well.

I know I do on my iPad.

As to being unusable I guess I have just grown accustomed to it or something because I hardly notice it now. In fact I pretty much read the word as if it was all their. Occasionally I do not know what it says. But it is only in the HEADER texts any ways. The rest of the document has the "A's".

Beyond letting Apple know about it and hoping they eventually get around to fixing the issue there is nothing.

As to Pazio using the same Font as the core book that is the problem. They do and it continues having the problem.

Sean

Edit: I also have come to prefer the iBook application for reading the PDF's. You have an option to "categorize" all the PDF's how you want them to be in iTunes and then download them to your iPad.

Another option is to scroll through the pages nine at a time so you have a good picture of all the art work. Then double tap on the particular page your looking for to zoom in on it. Its pretty sweet.

It's getting close to release date.

Picture?

;-)

Not that I got anyone to play Kill Doctor Lucky up here yet. Almost sat down to play a demo game at Gencon.

Still probably buy though.

Q-Workshop are based in Poland.

They have a basic biog here.

The factory burnt down in '09, which seems to be what killed off the Pathfinder dice sets, but they're still going strong.

Being based in Poland will keep their costs down but cause some complications with shipping (with their German connections I would guess that they ship to there and then distribute globally).

This cup is currently available at their store so I'm guessing they need to improve their US distro.

Thanks for the link. I might hit them up if they truly have it in stock. 19 Euros is $26.26 at current rate then the extra shipping....might do it.

Then again perhaps I can contact them and the'll bring some to Gencon 2011....which is 10 months away....we well see.

Of course its not that I have to have it RIGHT NOW but....

Ahhh. You did get a response from the VP Store Manager.

Sean

Did I just read that correctly?

If I were to order a third copy of the core book it would be he fourth printing?

Have two first(one signed by all I could at Gencon) and am thinking of another....so if I order from you all it would be fourth?

Might still get a third from local store to support but not 100% on either or right now.

Sean

I say keep it how it is.

But for those few customers allow the option for it to be requested specifically with the knowledge shipping would increase drastically. Perhaps put it in the description, except I know most people don not read that when it comes to shipping, but you can always point to that.

It would be a notify customer service before hand or along those line for the option.

Personally I just fix items or smooth them out if I k ow they can be. If it is a book corn or so ethnic I would nitrify Pazio if there was an issue but this I'd just fix since there is a known solution.

A minor question.

Well the spine of the book be the same color as the current capping setting books or like the original campaign book.

The reason I ask is because it sticks out like a sore thumb on my shelf next to the other hard covers I have from pazio.

Yes a little OCD but.....

I don't think he asked for next-day (unless that's the only option you offer after bare-bones USPS... which I doubt is the case). And if that isn't the case, why would you say that?

His hope for upgraded shipping after that long of a wait was hardly "high expectations". It was more than reasonable.

Even UPS Ground is trackable.

There is even 3 Day UPS. Shamless plug, of course I am not sure all that Pazio offers.

All is good though.
