"De-linked" Champions Online RevealedGame Informer's web site has posted up their cover for the March 2008 dated print issue (due out later this month). While the cover story will give the first info about Gearbox Software's previously announced Aliens FPS, the cover also has the first word on Champions Online, the new superhero MMO from original City of Heroes/Villains developers Cryptic Studios. The game will apparently appear on both PCs and consoles. There's no word yet if Champions Online is based on the long running Champions pen-and-paper super hero RPG (a planned PC game based on the pen-and-paper version was cancelled in the 1990). Update FiringSquad contacted both Cryptic Studios' PR rep as well as Champion's owners Hero Games. Neither would give any more info about Champions Online but did stated that an official announcement would be made on Monday. The Complete Greyhawk Wikipedia or a Ptolus style book that compiles all the flavor with some new history. Edit: I should clarify. NO system rules. Just a complete campaign setting. Then it could be used with any system. Ecologies on monsters with hints at stats (Strong, Extremely Strong, Weak, etc). CourtFool wrote: You think it is funny? Have you seen what they are doing to the game? They are doing away with Energy Blast, Hand Attack and both Killing Attacks to be replaced with one attack power. They are doing away with six sided die and going to a percentile based system. And the Champions Universe is being nerfed with some great meta-human plague. Unlikely. Hero is known for its complexity. They'll probably allow clinging killing attacks. Oh, wait, wouldn't that be napalm? Looks like it's already there. ; ) Has anyone seen that Hero is going to announce two big things on the 17th and 18th? Unfortunately, I can't get to HeroGames.com at work, so I'll have to wait 6 hours. Speculation on the boards over there haven't brought out any real big things, but there was mention that the DC liscense might be available. Back to your regularly scheduled thread... Showdown is basically A&8s Lite. The hardcover is additional rules, which some are posted on the downloads section. Alternate history is also included in the book. But, again, Showdown is all you really need, and at $10 for a download (http://www.kenzerco.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=showdown) Terry Dyer wrote: And on the Hero system I've never gotten it to stick with anybody and haven't really felt the need to try. I just don't like the system as much as many do.It takes some getting used to, but once you've played a few times, the most difficult part of the game is character generation. We've pretty much converted over entirely to Hero. After you rebuild magic systems or the Force, you're pretty much golden. Everything else is just flavor. Terry Dyer wrote: My gaming group has discussed the idea of going to a western game. With cow wranglers gunslingers and the like. I'm wondering what systems everyone plays under and pros and cons. I'm leaning towards Deadlands but as I've never really played in it I'm not sure. If it's just a western, Aces & Eights (Kenzer and Co.). It has pretty much everything you'll ever need. If they still have the "Showdown" skirmish rules ($15 paperback), that would be the best for the players and the "big book" for the GM. If you can still find it, there was a Western Hero. However, Hero might be outside the learning curve for a shorter campaign. For those interested, I've also created a "GM Reference" set of threads in the Curse of the Crimson Throne boards. I've been thinking about Hero. So flexible, so dynamic, and Monks mean something! ; ) Now, if only I could find/create a magic system that would be balanced enough. I suppose that since the entire rogues gallery would have to be recreated that it would wouldn't really matter how the system is created. I didn't read all the posts, but here's a good trick. Laminate a piece of paper that has the design you're looking for (or, just laminate a sheet). Basically, it's the same as the flip mats. The laminate will allow you to use Dry erase, wet erase, and permanant markers. To erase Permanant, write over it with dry erase and then erase. Enjoy Edit, looks like this was already said. Oh well, the permanant marker reference still has merit. I do both. I like the added bonuses of the PDFs. You can snag the images off the PDFs and hand them out. I don't print them, as I only have a black and white laser that has issues with the document feed. I actually use both on the rare occasion that I GM. I have a multi monitor setup that allows me to cut and paste the images on another screen so the PC can see them. I can also print out the images on notecards and hand them to the players ("You found a magic ring, you'll get the writeup if you identify it."). However, it's nice to have the printed version. Sometimes it can be unwieldy to search through the PDF. Vic Wertz wrote: Early on, we had some issues with the process from layout to PDF. I know recent ones are correct, and images aren't split up, but we haven't had time to redo some of the earlier ones that do have that problem. Does this go for the GameMastery PDFs as well? Also, what is "earlier". Thanks : ) Timitius wrote:

Check the OGL in the back of the book. If there's something that's been used in the module (like Pathfinder 1 and I believe 2), it will be listed there. They're located at the bottom in the second column in bold. Seldriss wrote:
It just makes it that much easier to convert it to Hero System. : ) Kobold Cleaver wrote:

So, there's no PDF for the Cards? Warforged Goblin wrote: Good idea, but I already ran this last Friday :). I had saavy players, so the ray thing was easily handled. If there's one thing I would've changed, I would've given the cleric 1 rank in Spellcraft, just so he could've got the spiritual weapon scroll. Admittedly, it was a one-shot, so I just gave it to them, but if I were doing it more hard-line, he'd have needed that skill rank. They had fun, treated it like a one-shot, and blew through the encounters. Granted, they needed to hole up in the secret room before facing off against Graypelt, but all told it was a fairly balanced party. I would have also suggested Tracking. Very useful in the wilderness. My guess is that they're adding the "most popular" races/classes to the core 4e. When the Eberron CS comes out, it will have additional information based on the flavor of the CS. Half orcs eventually came into the 3e by way of 1e Unearthed Arcana and the 2e Complete Book of Humanoids. Tieflings will make their rise from the 3e FRCS.
