Favorite Beer(s)?

#1 Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout (probably the finest beverage ever brewed)
#2 Stone Brewing Arrogant Bastard Ale (you are not worthy)
#3 Stone Brewing Smoked Porter
#4 Barley Creek Brewing Antler Brown Ale (currently available only at the brew pub in Tannersville Pa on tap or in 22 oz bottles by request - they will fill a quarter or half keg for you by request as well) They sadly stopped 6 pack production altogether on all their beers.

I would buy this product. Yes, a few squares need to be cut, and a map pack for various mod specific bits would be cool as well. Great Idea!

And Its great that you'll be at the 20th with a BIG show, but any chance of smaller shows at 16-19?

tceidolon,
You wouldnt happen to be the GM who was considering running at the RPS?
And I know we have most likely spoken before, but I'm having trouble putting a face to the name.

Pathfinder has (to my knowledge) run at DexCon and Dreamation since year zero. Pathfinder will (as far as I can see) run in the future. Each year the number of players and tables grows. If venture lieutenant VLTRoccktor says there are plans in the works for a big event at DexCon 20, then the event is being planned (and I am not in the loop for that event). I know Pathfinder Society will continue to run in the meantime as usual. My point is he would be a good point of contact for requests involving Pathfinder at the con.

Perhaps Paizo could make available how to go about inviting staff as a guest for conventions. (If such information is not already available to those higher up the food chain).

I am unsure what RPS is, but I have discussed possibly running Pathfinder Society mods at several stores (as have other judges I know). I do run a lot of society mods at Dex/Dreamation so you have probably seen me since you are on the Double Exposure staff.

Hmmm, as a regular Pathfinder judge at Dreamation/DexCon, I am wondering if you contacted Art Lobdel (the Venture Captain for the region that includes these conventions) or David Santana (who organizes the Pathfinder offerings at both cons). I believe one or both have the contacts at Paizo to facilitate such a request.

I know a guy Tom Carpenter that ran PFS games at RegulatorCon. I think he's in Harrisburg.

Mike

I think I've heard of RegulatorCon although I know nothing about it. Is this Tom Carpenter active here on the boards? If he runs PFS games, it would seem like he would be ... maybe he can pop in this thread ...

(With the requisit flash of fire and cloud of smoke....) As requested, popping in.

First off, I live in the poconos. I have travelled to Regulator Con back in the Living Greyhawk days and more recently to try and jumpstart some interest in Pathfinder Society. There has been some strong interest from folks (always enough for one table) but my work schedule prevented me from coming down last time. It's a great convention (if 4E heavy) and think all it will take is a local guy who can run something at a local gamestore and build demand for more at the con. The folks that run the convention are very open armed about new players and new DM's regardless of the game system. They are all good people. And if it is offered there, folks are willing to travel there to play.

If it helps, November 11-13 in Scranton PA will be MepaCon, a great little con that will be featuring some Pathfinder Society and you should be able to network with Art Lobdell (the initial VC for the northeast) and a few of his key DM's. Art has asked me in the past about Philly and he would like to see more activity there (and Harrisburg). If there is interest he seems willing to help folks get up and running.

Here is a link to their warhorn listing from this year:

http://warhorn.net/reg-con-2011/

Hopefully this can help you backtrack and find some folks to make contact with. Perhaps you can track down Art Lobdell on this board.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

Yes, it would be nice if these were reissued. I am sure they will sell, I want one or two. Got the shot glasses and last years glass.

He just found out today that his Hellknight PC no longer needs to bring pages from Pathfinder #27, but he now needs to buy the Inner Sea World Guide and update his character to the new PrC. He says that purchase is out of reach for him these days, and I believe it.

I can understand that concern (having been laid off recently), but it looks like the pdf is only $9.99 vs the cost of the hard cover. And I assume he could then print the appropriate pages for use at games. Ten bucks isn't that bad for what is supposed to be a very useful book. I am not making light of his situation, however.

Changing factions has never been an option in PFS. Once you've chosen and played your first scenario, faction is basically set in stone.

Actually, (for historical accuracy) way back in the ancient times of Year Zero, there was a provision for switching factions. You lost all accumulated PA and any feat requiring membership in the previous faction. Such a change could only take place in the month of July. This was detailed on pg's 6 and 13 of version 1.1 of the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play.

I made a change to TWF in my game to allow a single extra attack with the off hand weapon as a standard action. Any iterative attacks from the other feats in the TWF tree require a full-round action to use just like any iterative attack. You can already make extra attacks with Cleave and Great Cleave if you hit so there is no real reason not to allow it. SM

I agree with this assessment. It's the way I always thought this should be handled.

Of course, in Pathfinder Society (the bulk of my gaming time) this can't happen, but it is a good house rule.

Well, the Fiend Folio has the Ocularon (a floating creature that looks like jellyfish with multple barbed stalks hanging down. It steals victims eye balls.)

The Maulgoth (an underdark creature of stone w/4 tentacles. Feirce combatants, bow to no one.)

And the Kaorti (Lack tentacles but equally icky. Great power behind the mindless servitor badguy. Also see the Rukanyr, their heavy artillary. And if you have a copy of Dragon #358, there is an article called "Ecology of the Kaorti" (written by some guy named James Jacobs). It has the ultimate tentacled puss spewing icky monster: The Urquirsh. One of my favorite all time monsters. I wish that one was open content.)

The Call of Cthulu d20 book has stats for the Elder Thing, Flying Polyp, Star Vampire, and Great Race of Yith.

And the previously mentioned psuedonatural template lets you make anything tentacled and slimey (Lords of Madness or Complete Arcane both have the template).

All in all a fun...

1.) You should still have the disease develop and make the player deal with it, otherwise it makes diseases pointless in PFS. You need to determine your own standards for this when things are wrapping up at the end of the game, else prepare for all the advice you will get (and arguments started) by posing this question on the messageboards.

Right, when I looked at the diseases and realized the onset period it did seem pointless. But you make a good point on playing out the effects of the disease (have to give some thought to making that interesting). Give the players just enough for their imaginations to take over....

Quote:
2.) Yes, the spiked chains lose their reach. It's not like the Steel Wyverns were that tough to begin with though. If it really bothers you then give them guisarmes. I can't throw stones ;)

Yea, maybe I will try that. It will bring back the interesting reach tactics. I understand they weren't meant to be an uber challenge but still, the PC's should earn their victories (whether it's by good play/planning or just superior die rolls)

3.) Oil of Bless Weapon automatically confirms critical hits on evil outsiders. I think that's the payoff.

Ahhhhh...I completely forgot about that...(facepalm)...damn!

Thanks for the feedback!

OK. So this was a fun mod to play way back last year.

Spoiler:
I work in construction and as we went into the sewers I gave a lesson (based on real life) of the dangers of methane and hydrogen sulfide and oxygen deficient atmospheres etc in live sewers/manholes.

Guess who's PC then walked into the gas trap with a lit torch?

Yep. Mine. Kaboom.

You shoulda seen the look on the DM's face....Priceless :)

Anyway, today I ran this for a group of 1st level PC's. One player never played D&D or any tabletop game before, one had not played Pathfinder Society and the other three were old 3.5 and current 4.0 players.

It went very well. I think this is an excellent intro mod for 1st lvl pc's and new players. Certainly not a killer dungeon, but pc's were in negatives a few times. Teamwork ran high, a big plus and the saving grace for the group. Everyone had a good time and even the new guy said he would like to play more. Huzza!!

Now, a few question/points:

#1

Spoiler:
As I understand, the Filth Fever has an incubation period of 1d3 days. It won't affect the PC's in the game, will it?

Is the point to scare the PC's or to have them pay for a Remove Disease at the end of the mod?

#2

Spoiler:
As mentioned above, the spiked chains loose the 10' reach. Would it be a good idea to run the mod as written with the reach anyway? Otherwise the Wyverns are a bit nerfed. Is this what Josh intended when he said don't change the year zero mods (other than Perception/CMB/CMD)?

#3

Spoiler:
The Almsman gifts the PC's with 2 vials of Oil of Bless Weapon in tier 1-2. In addition to dust of appearence at tiers 4-5.

Why?

Tier 1-2, the Dretches are lessoned. We are instructed to ignore DR, thus eliminating the need for the vials.

At Tier 4-5 Higher level PC's will (or should) have cold iron, their own oil or the neccesary spells. They will also do enough damage to exceed the DR anyway. (and apparently there is no need for the dust)

All in all a fun mod to run and very well suited to a new/1st lvl party!

If they occupy the same space, then any damage done to one swarm should be done to the other equally.

So, 2 swarms move into a square with a PC.

The PC takes damage from both swarms.

Each swarm takes damage from the other.

If either (or both) swarm falls to 0 hp, it
disperses.

correct?

xAverusx wrote:

This is an interesting question.

Do these creatures occupying the same square cause each other to be "cramped" like normal creatures? Seems reasonable, but swarms are a special case.

Since they are 2 different creatures, I'd have them function separately. If they were in the same square, I'd give them the cramped/squeezed condition. Lower AC to balance greater damage.

You would have 3 creatures in the same square. The PC and the two swarms.

So, are we talking say 2 spider or rat swarms (I am assuming so) or a spider/rat and bat swarm?

If it were the former, it would make sense for the PC and swarms to be dissadvantaged in some fashion (squeezed condition etc).

If the later, it really would not make any difference as to the amount of space occupied. I think they would stack for damage/effects in that case without any penalties to the swarms. The PC might suffer worse if the swarms worked in a complimentary manner.

Thoughts?

The President exited the TOTAL PERSPECTIVE CHAMBER. He hated doing that. Inside, he WAS the center of the universe. Outside, simply another minion of the master. The teleprompter lit up, bringing a drooling grin to the face of the President.

"man-thing president"

"yes master?"

"the one called Urizen suspects to much. i doubt he truly knows anything of import, however, he is to close to the truth."

"yes master, shall i send in the fbi or batfe ? or is it time to call in the united nations troops to quell the uprising? or shall I demand another stimulus bill?"

(The President, seeing a fly buzzing about, nimbly grabs it, shoving it into his mouth)

"NO you man-thing idiot. and stop eating flys. it's disgusting......
send several ghouls.....yes, he escaped the last two.....send more to finish the job, man-thing president.....if they fail, you will replace them......begone now, man-thing"

"yes master...why do you have that shot gun?"

"though none of your concern, man-thing president, it amuses me to tell you I am going hunting.....with a few friends....but still none of your concern....he he he he"

The teleprompter winked out. The President could still hear the beings laughter echo about the room. Then he noticed another fly.

"....yessss masster....."
