*How do you know Darth Vadar is evil? Because he's the guy in black. How do you know Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa are the good guys? Because they are in white. Han Solo wears both colors. (I'm talking here about Star Wars 4, Luke actually starts to wear more darker colors as he becomes morally tormented in the later movies).
I am very curious, if you happen to just lurk here, for good or ill, can you like this post. I just want to see how many people lurk. I have noticed on various threads people mention this one who never post, so my curiosity is up.If that sentence made any sort of linguistic sense?
Or hey just post saying long time lurker first time poster ;)
While I do love me some frosted mini wheats, my all time fave is a three way tie between warm honey nut cheerios, Life/Cinnamon Toast Crunch (I count them as a single entity) and fruity pebbles(rainbow milk!).
Huh. I always thought you were a fan of Whedon-O's. Snarky dialogue in every bite.
Today I am studying math by memorizing the lyrics to a goofy song. Silly, yes, but since I learned the quadratic formula by singing it to the tune of pop goes the weasel...well, obviously it works. :)
I "passed" my first phone interview with Amazon, so now I've got one more phone interview, and, if all goes well, I'll be flying out to Seattle for an on-site interview.
If this works out, I'll be in Toronto just as it's thawing out. :)
Good Morning FaWtLys! I am excited. I found a new job that allows me to stay in the Houston area and it is a great opportunity. It's been a stressful few weeks, but now that it has been announced at work, I feel like a great load has been lifted off of me.
In the "it's a small world" category, I will now be working only 10 minutes from AZ's brother who is also a player in my Rise of the Runelord's campaign. Wolfthulhu plays in that game as well.
Since I have a lot of projects to wrap up, I gave my current employer about 4 weeks notice so I don't start my new job until February 6th. Grrr!
It has been decided that the e-mail sent to [group of clients] who have not yet submitted required data for 2010 testing or prior will no longer be sent. Emphases mine.
That email made my skin crawl. It's a perfect example of passive voice being used to avoid making anybody responsible for anything.
[/venting]
They made that first sentence almost incomprehensible.
I want to have improved enough to at least have made someone go "hey, that's neat"
This.
So much this.
If just one of the judges says this wow (and if I dont make top 32 and brave the voluntary feedback, even one of the community saying this would be awesome sauce).
Having turned in unanimously rejected items for every RPG Superstar so far, it would be nice to know that one judge liked my item enough to consider keeping it. :)
The rules, as I see it, are not because we are being big meanies. We really want FaWTL to be an open place where people can have fun. Discussions of politics and religion are discouraged because we don't want to mess up that fun. Sports are OK, really--some people just don't prefer to hear about it. :)
One other rule is we don't talk about our battles with other posters in FaWTL. This has caused problems where those posters follow into the thread and make things...awkward.
Yes, some people get a little more latitude. As BoTT alluded to, they've been around for quite a while, and we've grown accustomed to their pattern of posting. That's probably the best explanation I can give. It's not entirely fair, I realize, but we do caution people when they cross the line.
I hope that helps out some more.
Now, I hope I'm not breaking any unspoken/unwritten/unposted rules...
So if one totally didn't keep a copy of what they submitted. After the 24 when first round is announced....can I see what I submitted, even if someone else can't?
In prior competitions, Cosmo (I believe) was kind enough to provide the text of your submitted item, notably in the "Judges' Feedback" threads. That's not to say it will happen again this year...
I entered within two weeks of the start date, so the wait has been considerably longer. I've almost forgotten I submitted an item. OK...that's not true.
I've given a few people those comments. It definitely improves my view of an item to see someone has that type of attention-to-detail. Because that tells me a lot more about the designer behind the item. And that's what we're really assessing in this round. We're not collecting a bunch of item submissions in an open call for a book of magic items. The actual item is far less relevant than what it tells us about the designer behind it and whether they deserve a shot at the Top 32. From there, it's anyone's game. But, you've got to convince us you're the one who deserves that opportunity. Your 300-word item submission is the only means by which you have to convince us. So, making it as neat and professional as you can definitely reflects well on you.
See, there is Neil summarizing my favorite observation about round 1: we are not actually trying to compile a book of wondrous items. The GOAL is to find 32 awesome potential freelancers to compete in the contest. The TASK we use to achieve that goal is to have everyone design a wondrous item. You can't get lost on the task and forget about the actual goal which is why a submission with creativity and innovation and inspiration but a few technical flaws wins over a technically perfect submission with less inspiration and creativity.
My wife is worried that I love My Little Pony. I have no idea why. It's such an adorable show. A bit heavy handed with the morals, but I would love to watch such a show with my kids. And I love Pinkie Pie, she's so cute.
