This will only take a few minutes." She gives Meep a chance to decide and step out before continuing.

Moon had spent a lot of time trying to decide on the best approach to the conversation. She never found one, so she clears her throat nervously and plows ahead. Feeling unsteady, she sits on the stove. ”I’m sorry that I cannot offer you chairs but I need to sit down for this. It is very hard for me.” She pulls a letter from her pocket, her hands shaking, and takes several deep breaths to calm herself. The writing on the letter is blood red. ”It shames me to have to read this to you and I apologize for the insults to you and your families in this letter. I’ll read it and then, if you have questions, I’ll answer them.”

She licks her lips and translates the minkaian script, as devoid of emotion as she can manage. ”To the worthless girl I fathered… It is my shame to know that we share blood. I have tried to raise you as a proper daughter, yet your mother always spoiled you. You would not listen. You sullied yourself by interacting with these ‘foreigners’ ” She opts for the kinder term ‘foreigners’ instead of the more insulting literal translation. ”I had hoped that your impure blood would not bring dishonor to my name, but it has. No true daughter of mine would do so. You are dead to me, Worthless Girl. I have no children. I have sold my home to pay for passage out of this gods-cursed town. I have left you the trash you have defiled with your touch. If you wish to show me that you have any honor, slit your belly open and die.”

Her voice wavers only a little bit as she concludes the recitation, ”Do not look for me. If you see your mother tell her that my deepest regret was not cutting you from her womb and leaving you for the wolves.”

She drops the letter to the floor like it scalds her. She quickly wipes at her eye to stave off the threat of a tear. She places her hands carefully in her lap, looks to her friends, and waits.
Betz wrote:”And I'm sorry for being a rockheaded, uncouth dwarven b!tch to you too!"

She takes a step forward and stops, then another, and stops. Her arms move like a hug is imminent and then she clasps her hands, unsure what to do. A lifetime of training wars in her head. For all that he had done for her, for the secrets they held, all they had shared, and what she felt now… a hug wasn’t adequate. But a Tien would never even consider a public display of any sort of amorous affection. It was beyond the pale. If he were walking out of a bawdy house with a willow world lady that had pleasured him all night… they wouldn’t dare kiss or even caress hands in any sort of intimate fashion. It was absolutely unthinkable. Not in public…. NEVER.

But she couldn’t slight him… and this was Avistan not Minkai… and Temue had effectively cut her off from her culture. She meets Grob’s eyes. This wasn’t how she expected it to happen – but it was what it was. Karma. With deliberate steps, she approaches the half-orc… and doesn’t stop. She presses her body against his. Her slender fingers touch his face then lace behind his neck. She pulls him down and kisses him. Her lips are strong and so is her desire judging by how hard she presses into him. She lets it last a long moment before releasing him. The kiss is a statement – far more than ‘thanks friend’ and somewhere less than ‘let’s get your pants off’.

She steps back flushed and unsure of herself. She can’t look at Betz or Maidie. If their looks were like a Tien’s - disapproving or disgusted - she would be crushed… and she’d been crushed enough in the last day.

She quickly gathers up a newly restored white under-kimono and a black kimono. Her words are rushed, ”Please excuse me for just one moment.” She flies into her former bedroom and closes the door. She emerges a couple minutes later, flush gone, hair put up and secured with her barrette, wearing her immaculate kimono, and looking poised. It takes her a moment but she manages to raise her eyes to meet her guests’. The events of the last day leave her looking worn, older… but some of her old fire is hinted at in her eyes.

She moves next to Meep, resting a hand on her shoulder. A semblance of a true smile returns. ”Forgive my manners. May I introduce Meep of Kassen to you.” She squeezes the goblin’s shoulder as a signal.
She backs away from Betz and wipes a sleeve across her eyes… and looks at Grob. The ranger had been practicing what to say, how to say it, and how to maintain her composure through what will be a very difficult gathering. Her plans evaporate when she sees the door standing open.

She rushes in to the house to find her three guests already in what was a nearly empty living room last night. Now, there are neat stacks of pristine clothes – her clothes. She looks across the array of kimonos, robes, dresses, chemises, tunics, and pants. It was a painstakingly thorough job. There is even a modest stack of her utilitarian Kassen-made underclothes. Moon blushes noting in that pile are a few eminently comfortable but scanty (by human standards) sets of elven silk panties and tops.

Along one wall are even some restored gifts from her mother and keepsakes from her childhood that look like new. She notes the rarest items are restored - carved elven toys from Kyonin and a set of tiny Tien wooden dolls dressed as a geisha, a fierce No actor, and a family.

Not when they fought Asar or his champions, or when they faced any of the numerous surprises during their quest, did the ranger ever look half as poleaxed as she does in this moment. Her eyes shoot between Maidie, Betz, and Grob. Hesitantly, she touches one of the simple kimonos to convince herself it is real.
He watches the girl bound off, a portrait of joy. There seemed to him to be a particular and specific magic about the arts that was very different from spellcrafting. Part of it was the nature of existence, the lies we tell ourselves to keep the spectre of death at arm’s length. Someone steps in front of an arrow for you or uses a spell to save your life… You thank them and think “I would have died”. But over time you think, “well, maybe I would have but maybe not.”

Few people can live with the notion that our lives are wavering candles that can be snuffed out by an errant breeze. We push it aside, then minimize it, and then we forget.

But art can leave a lasting impression – whether it’s a poem that speaks to a bitter moment in our lives, or a song that makes us weep, or a squiggle of paint on a forearm that captures a moment when our world expanded. Art touches soul, at times.

Hawk cleans his paint pots and watches Shel furtively. If I had done something to avert harm from Shel, she’d remember it for six months, perhaps. But when Shel is celebrating her 70th birthday, surrounded by her grand-children and reminiscing about her life, she’s going to remember the first time she went from that small village to the big city, saw a Calistrian for the first, and might fondly recall a sunflower painted on her arm that captured how her life opened up in extraordinary ways.

Maybe that was the ‘magic’ in the arts. Casting magic profoundly changes the life of the caster, without doubt. But receiving the magic of the arts changes the life of the recipient. Shel Lupescu likely wouldn’t remember his name or face in the waning years of her life, many decades from now… but she might just remember that sunflower.

Hawk shakes the water out of his cleaned pots and needles, returning all his equipment to his backpack. He rolls up his folio and packs it as well. All things considered, thought Hawk watching the effervescent girl, I can live with that as a legacy.
A little startled by the hug, Hawk appreciates it nonetheless, returning it hesitantly. ”You’re quite welcome!”

I didn't think your question was addressed to me, which is why I didn't answer it initially. Please note, I am not a rules lawyer and I tend to shoot from the hip if the rules are not crystal clear to me or my players.

After a bit of a rules search and thread convos, things seem pretty nebulous on how the Ice Tomb works. If it acts as an object (Ice has 0 hardness and 3 HP/inch) then we can assume the monster is sealed in nearly 7" of ice. And the talk about not suffocating in the tomb tends to support the idea that you are literally 'walled in' with ice. Plus, it is called a Tomb, probably for a reason. :)

That to me seems to be the intent. The rest I think is a GM judgment call. Since physical damage is typically how you break an object... I personally would rule that any spell that delivers physical damage from a magical explosion would damage objects around it. I'd also weigh more heavily in that direction because Crystal Burst is a Supernatural not Spell-Like power. I tend to give supernaturals a little more leeway. And since the definition of Crystal Burst does not mention targeting creatures specifically (unlike say 'Diamond Spray'), I'm inclined to think it hits everything... so the boxes, the ice tomb, and the wall of stone.

But that is strictly my view on it.
Hey DQ,
