Are you still in need of another character?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

A thread by another jealous gnome eh? Well you and yer elf buddies need to let yer emotions out somehow, so by all means continue with yer pity party!

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

I saw Ardamirs post before the system ate it so..
Sapphire-

Spoiler:
As the older man claps the younger one on the shoulder, you hear him say "good job son".

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

As Sapphire says that a rift seems to open in the air at the end of the dock and two men step through. One is tall with a dark complextion and piercing eyes. He wears a billowing robe and carries a staff. The other is shorter with close cropped salt and pepper hair, his nervous eyes dart here and there and his hands rest lightly on twin shortswords at his belt.
"Come Beltran, your mission is completed we need to depart before several of the more powerful spellcasters in the city detect my presence." says the tall man.
"Yes Lord Vayne," replies Thomas as he cautiously withdraws to the portal.
The tall man then raises his staff. The body and head of Luciano, lift off the ground and float towards the rift.
"Consider yourself fortunate fools" says the tall man. "My time in the city is short now. But least you consider following..." He pulls something out of one of his pouches and says "argentum terminae". A shimmering wall of force seals off the dock.
The three men turn and follow Lucianos corpse into the rift, which closes behind them. But before it does you see the shorter man clap Thomas on the shoulder and say something to him.
perception checks please

Okay cos,
The address has been changed.
Thanks,
John

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Thomas the Black cries out, "Aggh, damm you, you singing rat."

Ardamir- Just before you round the corner headed down to the dock where the guard said the group was located you hear a woman scream. As you hurry around the corner you see a battle at the far end. It's your turn.
You are close enough to make a charge attack. Don't forget to add the +2 to the attack if you do

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Lucky-There is sufficient cover for you to attempt to sneak up on Thomas. I'll need a stealth check of course.

Sapphire-I'm not real sure where your HP are at. I trust your math.

Hey guys,
I'm going to be moving on July 31st. Can I expect to have this order delivered to my current address by then?
Thanks,
John

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

"Pathetic, no wonder it took so long to kill this one" says Thomas as he kicks the corpse of Irontusk. "Well time to die midget. I'm afraid that I've been a poor babysitter, ha!" continues Thomas as he slashes at Sapphire. attacks:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22, damage 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
I just noticed that my other post with the bad guys initiative got eaten. Thomas was going on a 19, and the other bad guys are going on a 8.

Lucky-your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sorry guys, but it'll be Staurday evening before I have time to get this started properly

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

You got it. I have someone else coming in soon though

"Possessed? No liberated you might say. It took a while to get close enough to the traitor and it certainly took a tremendous degree of acting the incompetent fool on my part to get the Thrice-Dammed to lower his guard enough. But Iuz does not forget or forgive.
And it has been a slap in the face allowing myself to be assigned as a babysitter, but no longer. Even now other agents of the evil one approach. But I think that before they arrive I can at least have the satisfacion of ending the exsistance of an oracle of hated Pelor.

initiative rolls please everyone

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sapphire as you turn and head back towards Luciano and Sir Thomas you can hear words of heated argument between the two.
"... I SAID NO!" yells Sir Thomas.
Bending over to pick up the body of Irontusk, Luciano replies in a voice as cold as ice, "Well, I'm taking the body for questioning and a whelp like you isn't going to stop me."
Without another word, a furious Sir Thomas, draws his bastard sword and in one swift movement hews the neck of Luciano. Luciano's head hits the ground and rolls several feet before stopping, his face a mask of surprise. Luciano's body falls over Irontusk's, his carotid arteries splurting blood several feet.
"WRONG AGAIN FIEND!" yells Sir Thomas at Lucianos decapitated corpse.
There's a moment of stunned disbelief from the remaining members of the crowd and then a woman screams...

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Yeah so did I, but Luciano and Thomas have gone MIA

Lucky- After having explained the events of the "Great Dock Pursuit" in detail, at least twice, with many of your own ancedotes thrown in for good descriptive measure of course, you reach the gate leading from the dock ward to the river ward. There the sargeant loks at you and says "Um well yes, I do believe you and your companions did a heroic, epic thing in slaying Irontusk. And you know, we have all the information we need, you don't need to come with us to the headquarters after all. Yes I'm quite sure."
And with that, you head back torwards the docks, where you find Sapphire and Joryn slowly meandering up the street while chatting and occasionally throwing glances back towards Luciano and Thomas, who seem to have gotten into some sort of discussion regarding whether it's appropriate to transport a corpse for interrogation.

Congratulations by the way, but don't say I didn't warn ya :P

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Well, I've been waiting for either Thomas, Luciano or Sapphire to answer Joryns question about lore-masters at the temple. What ever you guys answer we'll go with (yes or no)

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Okay Lucky, remember it's not too late to RUN

As the guards approach, Lucky gives his little speech. The demeanor of both the guards and the crowd, turns from suspicious to accepting and a couple of folks even thank you for slaying Irontusk. The guards look around for a moment before the corporal says to Lucky, "so you speak for this group eh? Well we're going to need you to come to the headquarters with us and make a full report, on account of the property damage. The rest of you are free to go."
As Lucky passes by Sapphire, she feels something pressed into her hand, and Lucky whispers, "found this on Irontusk". As he then walks off with the guards he shouts over his shoulder,"don't worry guys, I'll find you!" Then you hear him say to the guards as they're walking away, "have you gentlemen ever heard the story of the elf and the cucumber? No? Well you're in for a real threat then," before his voice is drowned out by the crowd.

Sapphire-You open your hand to see an unusually shaped pendant made of some unknown blood-red stone.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Lucky-

Spoiler:
You find a masterwork dagger, 79 gp and an oddly shaped pendant made of some unknown red stone

Sir Thomas-With your help you and Joryn are able to get Sapphire out of the water, just before the barge with Lucky and Irontusk smacks into the end of the pier.

Luciano- You grap a nearby tarp and some cord and cover and secure Irontusk's body for transport.

It seems that the crowd has managed to keep the fire from spreading to the pier, although many of them are looking at the lot of you with suspicion in their eyes. As Luciano is finishing up securing Irontusk's body, several guardsmen come pusing through the crowd. One of them loudy asks, "alright who can explain what happened here?" Immediately a dozen voices speak up at once and a like amount of fingers are pointed your way.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sir Thomas-Your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Holy bad rolls batman!

Sapphire-Perhaps its due to the exhausting chase and battle, but you just can find the strength to climb out. It's all you can do to hold onto the end staff that Joryn has lowered.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

No worries Dave, you got a job to do. Okay, so this is how we'll run this

Sir Thomas reaches down and begins to pull on the whip, drawing the barge closer to the dock. Seeing this and having been frustrated, by Luciano's appearant lack of action, Lucky charges off the dock intent on skewering Irontusk. As Lucky flys through the air, Irontusk looks up from removing the goo adhearing him to the deck and says, "Come and get some halfling", with a sneer.
Just then there is the sound of a crossbow firing behind Lucky, and a crossbow bolt appears in Irontusks chest. It appears that Luciano was lining up a shot, a very effective shot. Irontusks focus is diverted, and Lucky slams into him, carrying them both to the deck of the barge.
Even though the confidence in his eyes is gone, Irontusk still manages to spit out with bloody spittle, "I'm.. not.. done.. yet.. you.. half sized bastard." And he gives a heave CMB 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 vs DC of 17 atempting to throw Lucky off. Yet in that instant, and despite his words, the strength seems to leave Irontusk and Lucky, you hear his last breath leave his lungs. His head hits the deck and his sightless eyes stare at the heavens. Congratulations everyone on deafeating Irontusk, everyone gets 400 xp
Sapphire-your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Lucky-you may use it, but first you'll have to get it, which will require you to disarm Luciano of it. This will require a combat manuver check against a DC of 16 on your part. Also, since the crossbow isn't sized for you you'll take a -2 to the attack.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Well, it looks like both Sir Thomas and Luciano are indisposed, so Lucky it's your turn.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Well, I'm guessing Sir Thomas is on vacation, so Luciano it's your turn.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Furiously treading water, Sapphire lashes her whip at the barge, snagging a cleat. She turns towards the pier, and attempts to swim to it. However due to the chop created by the sinking barge she only makes it a few feet before she is overcome by the waves. Just before her head disappears below the surface of the water she throws the end of her whip, which lands on the end of the pier, and you hear her faintly sputter "catch".
While you are not entirely sure of her purpose, it does occur to you that since the barge Irontusk is on isn't moored to anything anymore, given a sufficient application of strength, it can be brought to the pier or at least several feet closer.

Sapphire, Irontusk did indeed lose his tooth on the burning barge.

Sir Thomas-Your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Luciano- you see Sapphire treading water inbetween the two barges, shes just about at the corner closest to the dock.

Sapphire-You can see the others on the dock, the seem to be encouraging yoy to head towards them. You're not sure where Irontusk is. It is your turn.

Joryn comes running up. He has a bag in his hand. "We...can't let... the.. son of swine.. get away" he pants. And then he throws the bag at Irontusk. Mage Hands a tanglefoot bag 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18vs touch AC of 12. Irontusk reflex save to avoid entanglement 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 The bag bursts upon hitting Irontusk, and quickly hardens, adhearing his feet to the barge.

Irontusk eyes widen and he screams "Nooo" as the tanglefoot bag hits him. "damm you dwarf" he screams,"but this isn't gong to hold me." He thrashes mightly strength check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 vs DC of 17 but fails to win loose. He then starts scraping at the goo entangling his feet damage 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Yes Lucky, everyone can see Irontusk. But as the song goes, smoke gets in your eyes...

Luciano- You can easily find a plank or some rope to reach to Lucky with. I'll need a perception check to notice Sapphire though.

Lucky- Your turn, jump ship or get burned.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Badly burned and wounded Sir Thomas manages to crawl off the barge o'death onto the pier.

Luciano-You've reached the pier, at it's end you see Sir Thomas crawl off a flame engufed barge that is giving off copious amount of smoke. By the shouts of "fire" from behind you others have begun to notice the fire as well. Hopefully people will come to fight the fire as it is beginning to spread to the pier.
You believe you see Lucky, still on the flaming barge and through the dense smoke to the barge beyond it, you believe you see Irontusk. Of Sapphire, there is no sign. It's your turn.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Briefly thrusting herself out of the water, Sapphire slaps Lucky on the ass while casting her spell. Lucky, you rather enjoy that spanking.

Irontusk grunts when he sees Lucky get healed, reflex save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 damage 1d6 ⇒ 4 then grunts even lounder as the roof of the barge collapses and a large piece of flaming wood strikes him in the back. He looks at Lucky and shouts, "You like getting touched by your whore girlfriend so much huh? Why don't you join her." He jumps to the next barge, 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 normally provoking an AoO from Lucky, but not during total defense, quaffs something he pulls from his belt and beckons to Lucky, "Come on runt, I still want my goblet" he says with an evil grin.

The whole barge is aflame and by the buckling of the barge the fire appears to be affecting it's ability to stay afloat.

Sir Thomas-your turn reflex save, which I hope you make

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Good idea, Lucky

Sapphire-Your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sorry, Sir Thomas is not threating Irontusk and thus does not count as flanking. Decisions, decisions, but do something and lets see how it plays out.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Well, he does have a broken crossbow bolt throught his left shoulder, that seems to have bled quite a bit, from when Luciano shot him some time ago, not that it seems to have slowed him down much. And there is also the bleeding wound about where you'd expect his right kidney to be, due to your efforts. But he still seems to be standing strong, after all he had no problem dropping Sir Thomas.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Luciano-You believe you see the hulking form of Irontusk on a burning barge to the side of the pier, you're not 100% sure that's it's him, due to the smoke, but you're pretty sure it's him. He seems to have finished with something and is turning away from the direction you're coming from.

Lucky-Your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

While in the water, Sapphire manages to pull herself alongside the barge and reaches up and touches one of Sir Thomas's hands that had extended past the gunwale. She prays to Pelor and despite being rather wet, choking on the smoke and being mindful of the flames, she manages to get her spell off. Unseen by her due to her position, perception for Irontusk 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11, or Irontusk as he turns towards Lucky, Sir Thomas's eyes open with a flutter.
Sir Thomas-

Spoiler:
You're at 1 hp

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

No, there's no non-proficient penalty. But if you're trying to deal regular damage instead of subdual, there's a -4 penalty

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Okay Sir Thomas, you certainly can attack unarmed and it will deal subdual damage, but you provoke an attack of opportunity from Irontusk for doing so. Also you're at +9 to hit right now.

As Sir Thomas attempts to throw a haymaker at Irontusk, another burning piece of the barge roof hits him he takes1d6 ⇒ 6 points of fire damage, distracting him. Meanwhile, Irontusk stabs his blade AoO, attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 confirmation 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 fails at Sir Thomas, wounding him for 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 points of damage. With a grunt, Sir Thomas falls to the deck bleeding, never having landed his blow.
Sir Thomas-

Spoiler:
You're at -7 hp

Luciano -You can see down the street towards the docks. By the rising smoke, appearantly a fire has begun. Give me a perception check.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Actually, a concentration now is d20+caster level(1)+spellcasting ability mod (Cha for Sapphire)

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Lucky-That's fine, but then you can't use Weapon Finesse with it, since it's a longsword

Sapphire-I'll need a concentration check to cast the spell while treading water DC 16

Sir Thomas, Lucky and Sapphire get a +1 to their attacks and saves vs fear.

Joryn-Still running

Irontusk turns towards Lucky reflex save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21, and among the flames and smoke burning your eyes and over the sounds of the crackling flames and sound of mooring lines parting, he takes a demonic appearance, actully the whole scene takes on a hellish appearance. With a insane look in his eye, he yells, "I'm going to use your skull as a goblet, halfling!" He then attacks, 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16, but the gods of luck seem to be on Lucky's side and he dodges the blow.

Sir Thomas-Your turn (don't forget the +2 for flanking and +1 for bless).

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Lucky- As you attempt to tumble past Irontusk, his dagger strikes out, 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25, stabbing you for 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 damage. None the less, you get behind him and manage to land a telling blow.
BTW, your short sword does 1d4 since it's small not 1d6, but I'll let it stand this time. Yes I need a reflex save each round from everyone on the barge to avoid getting burned

Sapphire-Your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

As Sir Thomas strikes at Irontusk a burning piece of the barge's roof strikes him in the arm, doing 1d6 ⇒ 6 points of damage and spoiling his swing.

Luciano-Still running (round 4)

Lucky-Your turn, I need a reflex save to avoid being burned.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Lucky- no worries, hope you had a good weekend

As Lucky lands on the deck, Irontusk grunts "Another midget huh?". But you notice some of the confidence in his eyes diminishes.

Sir Thomas- Your turn, I still need the reflex save though.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

"That's good 'cause I'm gonna send you to see 'em!" shouts Irontusk as he charges Sapphire. bull rush 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 He slams into Sapphire, knocking her back into the flames for 1d6 ⇒ 3 points of damage and knocking her over the side of the barge into the river.

Sir Thomas-Your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sapphire-

Spoiler:
You notice Irontusk's iron capped tusk on the deck of the barge

You can find something to attach you whip to if you wish, although the smoke is a bit distracting. I also need another reflex save to avoid being burned by the spreading flames.

Joryn-Still running

Irontusk unwraps Sapphire's whip from his leg and stands (nobody is close enough for an attack of opportuity) as the flames begin to engulf the barge. He spits out blood and says "I'm not telling you nothin'. I hope you and your shiny friend here are prepared to die today." reflex save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Sir Thomas- Your turn. I also need another reflex save to avoid being burned by the spreading flames.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sir Thomas manages to adroitly avoid the flames as he manuevers onto the barge holding Sapphire and Irontusk.

Luciano-Still running (round 3)

Lucky-Still waiting on escape artist check, but I'll presume that you'll be onboard the barge as well as soon as I get it.

Sapphire-your turn again

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sapphire- The flame kisses you as you pass through it, you take 1d6 ⇒ 4 points of fire damage. Undaunted you deliver your challenge.

Joryn-Still running

Irontusk looks like for a moment he is going to attack Sapphire, but he seems to notice Sir Thomas making his way onto the dock and Lucky, finally having freed himself (presumably) making his way quickly towards the barge and instead Irontusk turns and goes to jump to the next barge instead. However, Sapphires whip lashes out and catches a hold of one of Irontusks legs as he begins to leap and he crashes down on his face instead.
Sapphire-give me a perception check

Sir Thomas-Your turn, if you're moving to the barge with Sapphire and Irontusk, I need a reflex save to avoid getting burned by the flames.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

While he admittedly looks like a turtle screwing a football, to everyones amazement, not least of which is his own, Sir Thomas manages to scrabble across the boats and barges to where Sapphire is without falling into the water.

Luciano-Is moving up the street.

Lucky- When I get your escape artist check, feel free to describe your actions this round.

Sapphire-Your turn, if you cross the dock and get through the flames (requiring a reflex save to not get burned) you'll be on the same barge as Irontusk.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Lucky, I guess you missed the part where you got entangled in a net that was part of a trap. Instead of doing what you did, I need you to do an escape artist check vs a DC of 16 as a full round action to get unentangled

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sapphire-You move across the small barge and the larger one next to it. You find yourself next to the boat Irontusk is currently on.

Irontusk-Steps off the boat and onto the small last dock, where to your surprise, he does not run down the street into town, but rather crosses over onto the barge tied to the other side. There he takes a pair of lit lanterns and smashes them on the deck behind him. The barge begins to burn.

Sir Thomas-Your turn.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Luciano- Even moving as fast as you can and taking shortcuts it takes you 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 rounds of travel. You manage to catch up to Joryn in your mad dash.

Lucky-If you're there, it's your turn. Otherwise,

Sapphire-your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

It was just appears to be regular open top barge

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sir Thomas-You just barely manage to clear the gap. Landing safely on the deck you quickly make your way across the deck in preparation to cross to the barge the halflings are on.

Luciano-Your turn

Male Dwarf Ranger 4/Wizard 5/Temple Raider 6

Sapphire- As you wield the cracking whip of command, the dogs Will save 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6 vs DC of 11 yelp and run back to their holes. You then move to the barge that Lucky is currently entangled on.

It's your turn Sir Thomas.
