a voice from the heavens above sounding oddly like charles heston says:
"At 2nd level, a ranger must select one of two combat styles to pursue: archery or two-weapon combat. The ranger's expertise manifests in the form of bonus feats at 2nd, 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th level. He can choose feats from his selected combat style, even if he does not have the normal prerequisites.
If the ranger selects archery, he can choose from the following list whenever he gains a combat style feat....."
and there you have it straight from the PRD and Core Rulebook.
I have played many a ranger, it is my favorite class for what its worth which is not much in this case, it is pretty well understood that the ranger only gets his exception to the rules happiness on the bonus combat feats. Unless the text says otherwise in this case.
The ranger still gets awesomeness like having STR based TWF, the sword and board ranger gets some awesome stuff six plus levels before fighters do, the archery gets pinpoint or something like that which is really awesome if your GM actually enforces cover and concealment, etc.
Its just not easy to have STR based TWF who shield bashes people too. Rangers specialize and fighters get to dance with two or more attractive combat options, thems the breaks.

I think the mephit is really neat and would like to see more of them.
The fact that there are so many versions of them is pretty cool and the different personalties they generally have is fun to add to the game.
The SLA is in my opinion not that strong by the level the mephit is gained. The wand use will strengthen the mephit leading to less of the imp/lyrakien/paladin cat prominence.
Not that these are bad, its nice to see more of the others though.
Just a Mort: The chart at the beginning of the mephit entry lists the baseline mephit. The entrys for the specific ones (air, fire, etc) list the changes that supersede.
In the water mephits case it retains the normal fly speed listed in the intial chart but also gains a swim speed.
The air focused ones get improved speed by like 30-40ft instead of another movement option.

bard is good. For the wicked damage part, with the bard you can do major damage while boosting the major damage dealers in your party even further.
For the spells part, the bard has a pretty sweet selection.
Add to that skills and abilities.
Pretty nice if you would like playing one that is. Not everyone does of course.
The inspire courage will be big for the pistolero, the magus, and the two fighters. It will also help you and the cleric. The wizard will be happy if the spells are summoning ones.

I have not been part of PFS as long as the PFS VFW members, but I have been a part for about three years. I am enjoying the awesomeness that is PFS.
My region has awesome leadership and guidance through C. Jarvis and Kyle E. The players kick butt and made the experience that much more enjoyable.
Keep up the good work.
Shivok, awesome job on the oracle at paizocon and I am glad you got your training at Drum done in the summer and not the winter. Burrrrrrrr.

Ovule, in my opinion the wizard necro is pretty strong although the cleric is as well.
The necro school itself will bring things like: blindness, ghoul touch, lipstitch, ray of exhaustion, bestow curse, ray of enervation, vampiric touch, etc. the wizard class itself will give you extreme versatility with options like fly, haste, slow, fireball, and the like.
The cleric is not wanting in itself but it is more limited in options. My cleric has found the awesomeness of breath of life to be worth the wait, that character has brought over 12 fellow pathfinders back from the gates of pharasmas boneyard with BOL. That and a certain friendly stegosaurus named Taldor has made the cleric fun for me to play.
On the wizard note, I almost always choose a familiar because i like pets, however the apg has a pretty cool albeit expensive item that when used as an arcane bond allows necromancers to spontaneously change any necromancy school spell they have prepared into another necromancy school spell they know. Pretty cool, eh.

Ahhhhh.... such fond memories of Dralkard Manor. If I remember both groups I gmd it for liked it alot.
Sadly it was deemed unfit to continue its PFS career. It did have serious bodycount potential...so I understood the decision.
BTW, I miss the option of having the familiar used in that scenario. Not quite sure why it went away.

A + 1 mithral chain shirt costs 2100 gold. half that for the quasit because of the size but also half the ac. so is it worth it? I think so.
3 to ac for 1050. yes please. If you are feeling brave with your spellbook, give him a buckler with arrow attraction on it. Not too many dudes in PFS have cold iron or good aligned arrows and are against you. DR and fast healing are awesome. He can also drop it if things go bad.

Magic of Golarion has boons for going to certain schools of magic. These are also meant I believe to be used as guidelines for creating your own. I do not think they used feats but i could see gaining one or two throughout their progression as being reasonable and not out of control.
The thing is once this occurs you would pretty much want to have all classes given this option, like your gladiatorial school with trident example, so it would be reasonably fair.
I would have fun creating those schools for players in a game but i would also worry about that becoming the expected norm along with the subsequent boring factor. At which point its just another way to get feats with gold or game time.

To my fellow players of the magnificent Pathfinder Society,
A new thread has come about, in which a poster has inquired as to the proper protocol for a paladin of the oathbound archetype- who encounters a party member whose companion or familiar is an evil outsider.
I wish to make a solid point before I go further and stress that the OP had a legitimate question and I hope his ideas regarding it are given solid consideration.
Now, following this progressive idea forming about what to do was a storm of posts that nothing short of outright questioned the integrity and intentions of someone who came to the game table with an imp familiar.
I wish to without creating a firestorm in the threads, get a genuine consensus of PFS players and how they feel regarding my characters exotic friend showing up at their table.
Here has been my experience:
Most people playing are completely cool with an imp familiar at their table. If their character is strongly aligned with good, they certainly appreciate the imps presence being reduced.
While they have fun admonishing my infernal binders bad life choices, out of game they have no problem and may even be amused.
Others of less alignment bound characters are warm to the idea of the familiar healing the characters, boosting their ac, scouting, etc.
Your input is appreciated regardless of the stance you take,
May the Open Path be before you always,
Samerandomhero, an "imp-lover" :P
Upon reading my post again, i have decided to make it clear that the intent is to find out if a significant amount of PFS players have a genuine problem with it, and that maybe I should chill on the Chelaxian flavor a bit.

First off: i am for faction intrigue. i am still thinking on ways to improve it.
that being said, 1. i think they are working pretty well. i have seen some awesome interparty fun with the factions and during the years of pfs i have played, I have yet to see nosigs fears come to life.
In fact, i have just played at a table split 50/50 andoran/cheliaxian. good times and good cooperation.
2. i am not sure having actual in game campaign consequences of faction victory is great. While many may have playfully booed when andoran was declared victor, i am not so sure a cheliax victory would play so well if there was actual campaign changes from it. This is ever more revelant as the silver crusade/andoran split fractured the leading faction. just something to keep in kind.
The friendship is magic faction wins no one really minds, the conquering Cheliaxian with infernal subordinates on the other hand.....

One of my favorite classes is the pally. I have one for PFS. There is now a "friendship is magic" faction for our Holy Warriors.
That being said however, every Paladin that joined the Society pledged obedience to a tomb raiding, law spurning, multinational secret society of intrigue and shadowy shenanigans.
I have absolutely no patience for demands to acquiesce Dudely Dorights boy scout tenants.
If there is a Paladin in the party, my characters that are morally ambiguous will respect the paladin and not go out of their way to create problems. They will not tip toe around though if it interferes with their present goal. The life of a delectable flesh puppet is a precarious one and I am not down with whatever a certain paracountess deems as acceptable atonement for failure.
The Paladin is an awesome class. The oath archetype is neat but it also increases the potential for interparty conflict more than an already potentially problematic code does.
I consider there to be an uneasy but existing truce between those in the Society that wear holy pants and those who had Majestrix Demesslia for their third period Infernal Summoning Workshop.
That truce is this: I have interesting class features and I will work with the party to play nice.
Adding "my character must destroy undead or evil outsiders" with a supplement that came out long after the options to have undead and evil outsiders as pets is setting yourself up. Maybe that works for someone, maybe its like a challenge. whatever. Their roleplaying choice is not any less legitimate than the my cheliaxan devil binder.
I consider myself to be a gamer who respects other gamers, however if someone bent the Pvp rules and snuffed my imp familiar, Sacred, I would be very displeased. I would not break the rules to get back, but I would be highly tempted to get creative right back.
Also, were a Paladin in the group offered the smaller atonement option and the player and I were pretty set on playing our characters that session, I would likely be game to helping out with the costs.
Respect and be respected.

Additional Resurces::
Pathfinder Player Companion: Gnomes of Golarion- Gods: all gods on the inside front cover. Sivanh is one of them.
Inner Sea Guide::
All gods listed in the tables on pages 229, 231, and 234. These include the Empyreal Lords, The demon Lords, the Devil Lords, and the Four Horsemen along with a sprinkling of other divine entities to worship.
Cheers
Daniel
Edit: Just to be clear I meant to say they are all allowed to be worshiped in the cleric way and the everyone else way. :)

Ahhh... the goold ol army cargo pocket. Once again my friend now that it uses buttons and not velcro. Thank you battle uniform development.
I have seen some people happy with their Thrive and Nook. I have not seen the fire in use yet. It looks like it would do well spec wise.
One of the cool things for a small netbook is you can edit stuff somewhat easier if you can keep it somewhere.
I am fortunate enough to have an ipad with goodreader, but I have seen quite a few people happy with other things.

Yep. KNS is correct and you are free to use it with your character.
Just dont forget that you are supposed to have either the actual book, pdf, or printed page from your bookmarked pdf to provide authentication for gameplay.

If by make you mean spend the cost to upgrade it to having a vicious ability, then yes. So long as your prestige/fame is high enough. If the items is an already enchanted +1 weapon it will cost 6000 gold to do this.

1: Yes you may put a rank in linguistics to learn Tien. It is in the list on page 251 of the Inner Sea Guide campaign setting book.
2: there is aforementioned trait. that will work too.
3: In the Advanced Players Guide on page 15, there is a gnome racial option that allows you to drop your defensive training and hatred racial abilities for one that gives you two languages for every point spent in linguistics along with a +1 on bluff and diplomacy checks.

as of right now, merlin, the answer is no. There are a couple of things that could change that later though:
1:When the advanced races book comes out there might be an expansion of options available to players.
2: There are various conventions and events in which you can gain access to certain expanded race options. Gencon and Pax are prime examples, however there are due to be more.
3: Until then, only the core races from the Core Rulebook are allowed without a chronicle sheet saying otherwise.

The class feature is legal because it replaces the feature that isnt.
For example, in the Pathfinder Society Field Guide, the grenadier -an alchemist archetype- replaces brew potion with one martial proficiency of the players choice.
It also replaces all of the poison use features of the class with other options that are pretty cool. Like poison use for precise bombs, swift poisoning for a blast shaping of a sort, etc.
The PSFG is one hundred percent legal and approved. It is actually part of the core group now.
In Summary.
You get the alternate feature not brew potion or the extra bombs feat it usually is replaced with.
Have fun.

click on the pathfinder society logo on the upper left hand of the page.
then look up at the top. there is a bunch of links like additional resources, faq, etc. The faq specifically answers your question and a couple of other alchemist questions. cheers.
edit: here is the part from the faq. print the faq page and keep it with your alchemist character.
Alchemists can use the Craft (alchemy) skill to produce items with their Alchemy ability. Follow the Craft rules on pages 91–93 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook as well as in the alchemist’s Alchemy ability description. Any item created must be properly noted on that scenario’s Chronicle sheet. Under "Items Bought", note the amount of gold spent and the item created.
Alchemists are assumed, for Pathfinder Society Organized Play, to carry the necessary items and tools with them to use available resources to create alchemical items. If they have a base of operations from which to do so, they may use an alchemy lab to gain the +2 bonus on their Craft (alchemy) check.
Alchemists may never sell any of their created items nor may they trade them to another PC. However, they may allow other PCs to borrow or use items they’ve created (so long as the alchemist class ability being used allows them to do so)

While the older campaign setting is no longer allowed to be added to your character, those elements already in use that have not been updated in the inner sea guide are still active and under the rules in the above post.
There are also secondary books that have them such as cities of golarion and the players guide for the curse of the crimson throne.

In this case it would be irrisien for the feat.
