Though he hadn't mentioned it to anyone so as to not cause undue panic, it seemed the rumors were true: a gnoll had mustered the forces of the numerous tribes and now had Kelmarane — and possibly beyond! — in-sight.

Momentarily oblivious to both Paige's inquiry and Yazi's subtle innuendo, the bard was oddly silent, quipless and lost in his own thoughts, at least for the time being. This was serious; arguably more so than Yazi and the some of the others seemed to give credit. Though he had had little experience with gnolls first-hand, Amir knew all too well that the beasts were a bickering bunch. For a leader to not only rise out of their ranks but manage to amass the dog-faced curs into a formidable force as not only awe-inspiring, but utterly terrifying... and it showed. Katapesh was Amir's home, distant though he felt here; to see it in peril more than ruffled a few of his feathers, whilst the haunting allure of unseen danger weighed heavily on his own heart.

Blinking hard, Amir returned to his senses, an almost palpable air of gloom and concern shedding from his facial expression as he returned his attention to the druidess.

"What? Oh. Right. Yeah. Fussy'll come along. Might need her..."

Amir trailed off for a moment, before turning a stern gaze to the bejeweled traveler of Serenrae. He had only one question on his mind...

"How long ago did you have this dream, Father? How long has it been since you've heard any news of the Carrion King's movements?" inquired the Pathfinder. It wasn't just a question of curiosity, but of uttermost need, shedding that air of aloofness in favor of a tone of complete seriousness.

As an aside, Amir'll try and share what he knows, too, if at all possible. Ever since his arrival, he'd been hard at work piecing together the tale of events that had led up to this point, documenting the rise and continual successes of the heroes who'd put it all on the line for Kelmarane.

In a highly similar vein, the young chronicler was struggling to find a suitable means by which to relay the much needed news to Grand Lodge. Though the letter was set, the problem was that it was such a costly thing. But fate once again favored him when news reached Amir's ears of the arrival of the newest caravan. Talk about being lucky!

"Hey! You. Yeah, you. I need you to do something for me," insisted Amir as he reached the caravan, sealed envelope in-hand and no small measure of pep in his step, passing by Paige as she tended to the weary beasts of burden. "When you guys leave, I need you to deliver this message for me. There's a trading post in town; ask for Vennic, and pass this on to him," explained the Pathfinder, passing the wax-sealed letter into the fellow's hands, along with two platinum pieces. "One of those is payment. The other's so you don't take a peek. It's very important that you neither open it nor anyone else knows you're carrying it, okay? It's for the good of Kelmarane, so I'm trusting you."

With his missive delivered, Amir was feeling pretty good about his day so far. Things were coming together splendidly, and with surprising serendipity. But then something peculiar happened. A man, garbed and glamoured in brass jewelry, had apparently come with these fine purveyors of goods, demanding an audience with those who ruled Kelmarane. For a moment the Pathfinder almost felt the urge to run off and find the other heroes, but his drive was cut short; first by Hajar, whom he'd practically missed amidst the throng of merchants, as he followed after the odd — and armed — man into the nearby tavern. Soon followed by Paige, it looked like the man was getting exactly what he wanted; obviously this was substantial importance.

Turning on his heel and his face locked into a facade of bewilderment and curiosity, Amir felt confident that Hajar and Paige could at least satiate the fellow's curiosity; but if it was serious, then Almah needed to know.

The man paused, swallowing hard as his face soured momentarily, though he quickly regained his composure, even managing to muster a small smile as he followed along behind his newest attaches.

Relieved that the whole temple fiasco had ended somewhat in his favor, the Pathfinder noticeably relaxed, letting his shoulders slump slightly even amidst the presence of the Merchant Princess Almah and her guest.

"If you're going to give me a share, I'd rather you put it towards the guardsman's family. Times are tough; probably even tougher for his wife and kids. Tell em' they have my condolences."

With the assembly on the move to disperse, Amir gave one final, slight bow to Almah and her compatriot before turning on his heel and leaving their chambers. With the temple dealt with and contact made with those who revived the fallen vista, Amir now had his work cut out for him, bearing both much to chronicle and leads to follow. Doomed to be busy for the foreseeable future, the Pathfinder thought it more prudent to get a jump on the job now.

For the next few days, the Pathfinder is both strangely scarce and yet everywhere at once. A blur of (albeit sometimes inebriated) activity, his time was quickly sundered between filing his own chronicles, getting up-to-speed with the goings-on themselves in Kelmarane, and preparing for his inevitably prolonged stay in the rekindled battle-market... at least until he was satisfied with the sanctity of Kelmarane as a whole.

Also, random character generation! Very Gundam-esque in most cases, but could totally be used to emulate things like Macross or Zoids or whatever, really. I don't know how to summarize it without linking to a million articles. Blade Runner-ish? Cyber-gangs roam the dilapidated streets, human chop-shops in the seediest corners, Megacorps rule the world, everyone's "plugged in", et cetera, et cetera. Also, this.
Man.
As far as the "fighter-y" side of things, you're definitely right; though a Bard, I suspect Amir'll eventually pick up at least a level in Rogue and/or Fighter/Ranger somewhere along the line, if only to broaden his combat options and harp up the whole "worldly explorer" niche he's cultivating for himself. But, hey, that's a long way off, and I don't like putting all my eggs in one basket!

Really, he's just here to 1) do his part to make sure the Heroes of Kelmarane succeed in their goal of keeping the battle market in one piece, 2) do his part in chronicling their shenanigans for the Society, and 3) maybe write a really sweet book about em'.
@Khayal: You're kind of in a "fighter slump" there. That's gold in your pockets and the pockets of the Pactmasters! If you think that's still too risky, then at least let an outside source have a look at it; let me call in the Pathfinders. The Society can root through it first, collect what they can, ship it back to the Grand Lodge in Absalom, lock it up tight in their massive vaults, then burn the site to the ground. Doesn't help that we're all in pretty strung out shape, and it's not like these ruins are going anywhere."
Giving Khayal an affirmative nod before rolling his own eyes at Yazi's quip, Amir moved over to examine Haidar's lifeless corpse. He hadn't gotten a good look at the man after he'd fallen, but now he saw him for what he was: a blood-spattered vagrant, now devoid of any signs of feral kittyism. Boy, was this gonna be awkward to explain to Almah and Al-Hazeed...

"Geez... are you really so hard up to see what's on that barge?" the Pathfinder huffed, still breathing the heady freshness in. "You're making me look bad here."

Sliding over and following Hajar's lead, Amir moved astride his fellows in order to lend his own meager healing talents to the mix. First came the words, airy and distant, yet undeniably arcane in their origin, before the bardic explorer reached out and touched his compatriots where they were injured most.

Bartan came first, having so recently been savaged...

With another exasperated sigh, the Pathfinder relaxed. Casting spells clearly took its toll on the young man, sweat trickling from his brow and gloved hands shaking slightly from the rippling expression of magical pulchritude.

"There. Right as rain."

Turning back towards the cavern where the barge remained stationed, Amir grimaced at the thought of going back... and the idea that it the mists could be stopped.

"No. No, I don't think we can stop it. Not permanently, anyway, unless we can find the source," hummed Amir thoughtfully, running a hand through his hair as he contemplated. "Can't say for sure what happened, but my gold and my gut's on that they beat feet outta here when folks started getting twitchy and they realized what was up. I mean, if the 'holy smoke' could have been turned off, this place probably wouldn't have been abandoned; assuming that's even why they left in the first place."

Pausing for a moment, the Pathfinder then adds, "That spell you did earlier was really handy though, Paige! If you guys are so set on seeing what's inside that ship, might as well just use that if we can. Maybe you're right, too, and we'll get lucky and find some way to stop the mist. Besides that, we'll need to go back anyway; we've still gotta get the body of the, uh, wereleopard or whatever he was. The Princess and her merchant buddy'll probably want proof instead of, y'know, a pelt."

He couldn't risk chanting anything in Auran, not even to cast a spell, lest he potentially fall prey to the dubious mind-altering substance again. I know life can get in the way of things; sometimes that means giving up something you love in order to make time for what you need to do. If there's only one spot free, as seems to be the sentiments of the player base currently, then I'll also differ it to Hadassa if they'll have her back.

Though a lot of this is mutable and subject to change if accepted to meet party standards, here's what I've got for Amir Al-Fairuz so far.

As far as class is concerned (if it's even relevant at this point :p), Sorcerer seems the most natural fit for Amir, likely with one of the four Genie Bloodlines (leaning strongly towards Djinni or Marid with the Seeker Archetype, personally). No fancy tricks, no PrCs, just Sorcerer all the way, baby. On the other end of the spectrum, if the group is in need of a Knowledge Monkey, then Bard. Again, no gimmicks, just a traditional Bard with all the knowledge skills. ALL THE KNOWLEDGESES!

At the moment, I'm looking through the LoF Player's Guide, I find the idea of reclaiming Kelmarane as an ancestral home rather nifty. Class and race can go anywhere at my current juncture, but I'm thinking along the lines of a character with a distinct desire to see his/her home returned, and the mercenary endeavors from Garavel and Almah seem a convenient means to do so.

What little consideration I've given for character concept seem to be leaning more towards the mystical aspects of the Arabian variety: Suli Sorcerer of some kind of Genie Bloodline, or a Peri-Blooded Aasimar Divine Character - likely Cleric of Serenrae or an Oathbound Paladin.

EDIT: Oh! Alternatively, Cavalier/Bard/Battle Herald! Buffariffic without any real spells. Other well-known campaigns I've been through include the Tomb of Horrors, Against the Giants, World's Largest Dungeon (though we only made it halfway!), and White Plume Mountain, among numerous other homebrew campaigns hosted by my friends. I've never been the dungeon master of any of the Pathfinder scenarios or Adventure Paths, but I've run The Temple of Elemental Evil (and its sequel, Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil). The classic struggle of good versus evil, saving the realm from an overwhelming doom, a sense of adventure, rescuing prince(sse)s... you know, that whole shtick. Homebrew campaigns certainly aren't out of the question, but I'd prefer if they were set in Golarion or some other setting - after all, I find it easier to research something already established (no offense!) in order to build an appropriate character.

As for running things, I've had my eye on the Legacy of Fire Adventure Path for some time, though I've also pondered the idea of running Rise of the Runelords, Jade Regent, and Kingmaker myself - though I think Kingmaker would be more tenuous than worthwhile for a slower paced game, given the numerous factors it possesses. Still here and eager to run stuff. In addition to the above, I also wouldn't mind playing through Age of Worms, as I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Again, as for running homebrew stuff, feel free to shoot some ideas my way! If we can reach a consensus on the overall idea for the story involved, I like to think I'd be able to incorporate it into a full-fledged campaign :D

EDIT: Might be worth the time to put together some sort of master list/table for what people want to play and DM respectively to help coalesce ideas.
Excerpted from the other thread:

So, hey, yeah! Two birds, one stone and all that. While I own most of the APs thanks to our local gaming group, I haven't yet finished any of them; our Crimson Throne game now taking a prolonged hiatus due to various family-oriented reasons. My only schism might be that if I were to take up the DM mantle and assume the role of a player simultaneously, I'd likely only be able to play in two rather than the gregarious remainder thereof; three is a possibility, but I'd be lying if I didn't think that would be stretching it for me since I tend to get a little wordy with my posts. But still, if none of that's a qualm for anyone, then marvelous! Sign me up; I have no problem with a post a day or so nor a post a week - so long as it moves along, I'm confident I can commit; at least for the next foreseeable six months.

That all being said, I'm certainly open to ideas on what to run! If it's an Adventure Path (sans Skull & Shackles or Shattered Star, since I don't completely own either), I'm more than happy to oblige in that regard. If it's homebrew, know that I welcome my brain being bombarded by interesting concepts, and eagerly await a chance to flex my storytelling muscles. As far as the player-side of things, I, too, would like a chance to get through at least one of the APs; my preferences lying between Rise of the Runelords and the Jade Regent.
It might be a bit belated, but I'd like to throw my hat into the proverbial ring herein. There are so many great applications, I've no doubt it'll be a tough decision on Haldhin's part. If I don't make it in, I'd like to congratulate you guys on whipping up some very interesting characters, and hope that you guys and gals'll have as fantastic a time playing them as I did reading through them :D
Likewise! I should have something for you here shortly, as the groundwork is mostly done. It's just the background that needs doing.
Just an update: letting you know I'm still interested and working on a character, but I've been reading through the thread and trying to catch up with what has already transpired. Are the Luck Feats/Hero Points in use? I have this odd idea for a character who almost solely relies on good fortune to see him/her through the toughest of times. In lieu of that idea, then good ol' Tanky McTankpants!
Hmm... looking at submitting a Fighter, if it's not too late. Are the Luck Feats/Hero Points in use? I'm feelin' particularly conflicted for ideas, but I'm sure I'll drum up something here soon :)

EDIT: Actually, y'know what? Let's do that whole random generation deal. My only request is that I'd like to not roll randomly for a gender; I'd just prefer a choice therein, if it's not too much to ask. Beyond that, I'm honestly willing to play whatever those fickle dice gods give me :D

So, let's see, let's see... something I haven't played yet...

Assault: Fighter, Monk
Skilled: Inquisitor, Rogue
Divine: Cleric, Ranger
Arcane: Alchemist, Sorcerer

Races: Aasimar, Half-Elf, Human, Suli
I'd like to express interest in this, if it's not too late! I'm feelin' particularly conflicted for ideas, but I'm sure I'll drum up something here soon :)

I'm both pretty new to the forums as well as pretty new to PbP, but I'd like to express my interest in taking part in your game. I'm not wholly committed to a concept just yet, but I am exploring concepts. I'm sure I'll have something for you in no time :)
Hi!
